66 XXXVIII. Armeekorps (XXXVIII Army Corps)
The XXXVIII. Armeekorps was formed on January 11, 19*40, in Stettin. It fought in Belgium and Francein 19*40. The Corps was designated Festungsstab 38 from April 3 to May 2k, 19*41, to prepare in EastPrussia for Operation "Barbarossa" (the invasion of the Soviet Union). On May 25, 19*41, it becameGeneralkommando XXXVIII. Armeekorps. It participated in the eastern campaign from June 19*41 andadvanced through the Baltic States to the Lake Ilmen area south of Leningrad. From April 19*42 toJune 19*4*4 the Corps took part in position defense in the Volkhov River sector. It then withdrewfrom the Novgorod area and participated in rearguard engagements to the area south of Pskov. ByOctober 15, 19̂ > "the Corps had withdrawn from Russia to Latvia and Lithuania.
