The22-nd Olympic Games were held in Moscow from July, 19 till August,3, 1980. More than 78Olympic Sites were built before the Games: the Olympic Palace Of Sports, the Rowing Channal in Krylatskoe, the Olympic Village and others.

It was the first time when the Games were held in Eastern Europe and in the socialist country. More than 50 countries boicoted the Games because of the Soviet Union ivasion into Afganistan.In spite of the fact sportsmen from 80 countries came to Russia and took part in the contests.

These are the symbols of the 22-nd Olympic Games

The Olympic flame has always been the symbol of any Olympic Games. In1980 it was traditionally lit in the city of Olympia in Greece and brought to Moscow on the 18-th of July by the Olympic champion Victor Saneev. He gave it to Sergey Belov who lit the Olympic flame

Athlets from 25 countries were awarded gold medals. The team of the Soviet Union won 80 gold, 69 silver and 46 bronse medals ( 195 medals on the whole) and took the first place in the Olympic Games.Our best sportsmen were Alexander Dityatin ( 8 gold medals in gymnastics) and Vladimir Salnikov (3 gold medals in swimming). There were74 Olympic, 39 Europian and 36 world records during the Olympic Games

The closing ceremony took place on the 3-rd of August. It was unforgettable event. Everybody remember the Olympic Bear flying over the stadium while the choir was singing the song “Good bye, Moscow “. It waved good bye and disappeared in the sky. Those who were present at the ceremony cried. The 22-nd Olympic Games were great success.
