IN-HOUSE TEAM OF THE YEARWINNER: ARMARM has become one of the foremost players in thesemiconductor industry thanks largely to its innovativebusiness model, which hinges on the licensing of its valuableintellectual property to manufacturing partners. ARM receivesa licence fee for the IP and a royalty on every chip or waferproduced – more than 15 billion of them to date. Itmanufactures nothing itself, yet it is likely that everyone inthis room has used a device incorporating ARM designs atsome point. While this has been a visionary business strategy, like all

strategies it requires hard work and skill on the part of thosewho implement it. This includes the writing and prosecutionof patents; the willingness to defend rights in court whennecessary; and the drafting and maintenance of literally hundreds of licence agreements.ARM’s success in the semiconductor industry has been in

great part due to the quality of its IP rights and its creativityin exploiting them and we are pleased to recognise the teamthat has been instrumental in that process tonight.
