The Soviets instilled a communist regime in their zone
Soviets took drastic measures to prevent people from fleeing to “West Berlin” AKA the Federal Republic of Germany, from “East Berlin”

Soviets blocked any road, rail, or river traffic into West Berlin, cutting them off from food, coal, and other necessities.
Britain and U.S. hosted the Berlin Airlift which supplied West Berlin with nearly 7,000 tons of supplies every day.
