Greetings Westville UMC Family!

It’s hard to believe that we are going into August already. I’m trying to figure out where our summer

has gone. As I sit in my office, the rain is really coming down. Not to mention the thunder and the

lightning. It’s just a reminder that we need the rain just as much as we need the sunshine. Even

though it may look gloomy outside, the rain is another way that God takes care of us. God is so

amazing!

Speaking of amazing, I can’t thank you enough for the warm welcome that my family and I received on

our first Sunday here. I could feel God’s presence throughout the morning as you greeted us; all

through the worship service; and during the luncheon that you provided for us. We are truly blessed

and we feel honored to be here at Westville UMC. Thank you for your generosity and for your

hospitality!

Thank you to Amanda Kelly and all the volunteers who came together to make VBS a reality. We are

blessed to have such dedicated servants among us. Please take the time to thank them for their

dedication and their hard work. They deserve recognition and praise. Our children are our future!

Before you know it, our children and our college students will be going back to school. We see those

reminders everywhere: Back—to—School Shopping (Yuck!). I am not one who likes to shop. So you

can imagine the joy I have when we are shopping for school supplies and school clothes.

On a serious note: as we prepare to send our children off to school, please be in prayer for all children

everywhere, along with parents, school staff & administration, bus drivers and their administration, as

well. We will have a “Back-to-School Blessing” on Sunday, August 13th during the Children’s Time.

This will be for all age students. Since college students go back sooner, we will have a “Blessing for

College Students” on Sunday, August 6th. Let’s not stop there, please continue to pray for them

throughout the year.

One of my favorite verses of Scripture is Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,”

declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I

know that God has great plans for our future at Westville United Methodist Church. As we move

forward, may we be reminded that change is inevitable, but there is always one constant in our lives

and that is our LORD and SAVIOR. May the peace of God be with you always.

Blessings to you and yours,

Pastor Cathy

A PICTURE OF MY LIFE

By Frank Bagwell

What if I’m asked to paint

a picture of my life.

Not only of the happy times,

but also of the strife.

Think of my life on a canvas

each stroke is something I’ve done.

And what will it say about me?

Could I look or will I run.

Just think of my life as a picture.

Did I help my fellow man?

Or did I even try to do

the very best I can.

Think of my life as a picture

colorful and dark and grey.

But always my love for my family

painted brightly day after day.

When I put the last brush to my canvas

I pray there’re more good deeds than bad.

And I hope you’ll see Christ in my picture

Or my life had no meaning. How sad.

Craft Project August 8th

Instead of a craft, anyone

who is interested will be visit-

ing Jack Bacon at the Pines

Village in Valparaiso and

sharing dinner with him.

Please contact Mary Howard

(785-4484) to let her know if

you would like to go. More

information will be available

soon. (Time and carpooling)

Administrative Ministries:

Finance: Cory Stark presented the balance sheet and Monthly Summary Detail Reports. We need to bring

in $8500. month to cover monthly expenses such as payroll, & utilities. We are barely handling this amount

as giving.

We are closing the youth checking account and depositing in the church account as a youth fund.

SPRC: Kathie Long presented our new Pastor Cathy Allison. We had a welcome lunch after church on July

9th

Trustee: Ken Mattox

Ken stated that the trustees had meet earlier this evening and after discussion voted to rent the parsonage

at this time. The trustees will proceed to find a property management company to handle the rental. We

agreed no pets, or smoking for the renters.

The shed at the parsonage has been refurbished and will be painted soon. A company will come and raise

the sidewalk that is caving towards the parsonage and causing water to go into the basement of the parson-

age. The cost is $750.00. There is a day set up to clean the parsonage and get it ready for renting.

We are getting estimates to have the floor in the kitchen at the FLC replaced before the fish fries. Also get-

ting estimates to have the floor in the FLC stripped and waxed.

Pastor Comments: Pastor Cathy is happy to be at Westville UMC and is looking forward to getting know

each of us and doing God’s work!

Trustee Meeting June 26, 2017

Present: Jane, Jerry, Richard, Alan, Phil, Ken

Meeting opened at 6:50 with prayer

Discussion items:

The Shed at parsonage is almost done with lots of hard work by several. The yard is also cleaned up.

Ken is working on a lawn mower for the church.

We want to have the floor stripped and waxed in the FLC

The chairlift needs to be inspected and it needs a new battery

The estimate for lifting the sidewalk at the parsonage is $750.00

We had a discussion on renting or selling the parsonage. We will have a rental company come and give us

an estimate on renting and we will get estimates of selling the property. We will have this information before

the next church council meeting and make a recommendation on selling or renting to the council. We will

wait on the sidewalk lifting until we make a decision on the property.

We agreed to allow Tri Kappa to the use the FLC the first Tues of the months that they meet.

The meeting adjourned with prayer and a walk around the church and learning about all the work Stephan

has done with the sound system. J

Jane

Trustee Meeting July 13, 201

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the renting or selling of the parsonage. Members present were

Jerry McCall, Richard Lambert, Pastor Cathy Allison, Phil Koss Alan Buvelot, Ken Mattox, Mark Glassley,

Jane Bachman, Stephan Jerde

Each person expressed their opinion of selling or renting the parsonage. The biggest concern was that pas-

tors have been leaving after 3 or 4 years and we may need a living home for a new pastor in a few years

and we could never purchase a different home for the money we would receive from the sale of the parson-

age. The discussion was to rent the parsonage at this time. The estimates for selling from 2 realtors were

between 119,000 and 149,000.

A motion was made by Jane Bachman to rent the parsonage. Jerry McCall seconded the motion. All were

in favor of renting the parsonage.

We will proceed with looking for a property management company to handle the rental of the property.
