God made me; He

knows me more inti-

mately than anyone

else ever could. The

Father, Son, and Holy

Spirit are the persons

with whom I am sup-

posed to be the most

intimate. He alone re-

ally knows me.

Psalm 139 tells me

that God knows every-

thing about me – the

good and the bad –

and still loves me in-

tensely. He blesses

me. He gives me

grace. He gives me

His presence.

He is always near. He

precedes and follows

me.

Everyone has a need

to get into God’s pres-

ence, a need to com-

municate with Him.

A key to doing this is

found in John 20:28 -

Thomas said, "My

Master! My God!"

He has to not just be

God, but be my God!

He is not just a rock;

He is my Rock!

To fully communicate

with God, He has to be

my savior,

my Lord,

my healer,

my provider,

my Father,

my friend,

my teacher,

my counselor …

The Word for

All Nations is

based on

notes of ser-

in Huntsville,

Alabama.

Unless other-

wise noted,

these sermons

were taught by

Bishop Bob

Hellmann,

senior pastor

and founding

pastor of

ANCC.

Because God is my God and is always near me, I can know Him!

HOW TO GET IN

GOD’S PRESENCE

► Discipline your mind to

stop all intruding, distracting

thoughts while you pray.

Control your mind to be in-

volved in your praying. Re-

alize that you choose what

to think about.

► Focus, concentrate on

the Lord. Fix your thoughts

on the Father, Jesus, and/

or the Holy Spirit. Observe

the Lord fully. Exercise

your mind to think carefully

about Him. Concentrate on

Him while you are talking to

Him.

► Realize that you are talking to real Persons: the Father,

the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

► Close your eyes, so you

won’t be distracted.

Or

Lift your head to look up as

you pray. God is in heaven

– lift your eyes and look up

to Him.

► Sing to the Lord – He

loves it! Singing helps you

get in God’s presence.

Sing a song to God that

moves you, sing your pray-

er, sing your request, and

sing your worship.

T H E W O R D F O R A L L N A T I O N S

Seek

God!

Think

about

God!

Choose to

focus on

God!

Page 5: The Word for All Nations, Vol 1 issue 1: Knowing God

► Be still. To really get in God’s presence without distraction, you need to stay in

one place so you won’t have to watch where you’re going. Prayer-walking is good;

but this type of prayer is to be still and focus on God.

► Let God minister to you;

download from Him … in

abundance! Seek God’s full-

ness; desire to have as much

of His presence as possible so

you can live abundant life.

► Don’t time your prayer time,

or you will get legalistic. Just

spend some time with God as

you would a close friend or

family member.

► Have a place of prayer – a room, a closet, a place outside, etc. where you can

be alone and not have to worry about who is listening. Close the door, unplug the

phone, turn off the TV – and fix your thoughts on God.

Continued: How to Get in God’s Presence

P A G E 5 V O L U M E 1 , I S S U E 1 : K N O W I N G G O D

► Realize that prayer has nothing to do with righteousness -- so

your motivation for praying will be correct. Don’t allow prayer to be-

come a religious act; don’t pray just because you think that you are

supposed to. Pray because you want to be a friend of God and

spend time with Him; because you want to be near the Father, Son,

and Holy Spirit.

Page 6: The Word for All Nations, Vol 1 issue 1: Knowing God

P A G E 6 V O L U M E 1 , I S S U E 1 : K N O W I N G G O D

► Don’t just talk to God

– Really get in His pres-

ence. When you get in

God’s presence, you au-

tomatically get filled with

His Spirit … and the Ho-

ly Spirit helps us get in

God’s presence and feel

His presence – It is a cy-

cle.

► Be completely honest, completely yourself.

Don’t put on an act, or try to be someone you’re

not.

If you are angry, tell God about it and ask His help

handling it. You can worship God, give thanks,

present your requests, be completely honest in dis-

cussing your day with God, etc.

God is easy to talk with!

Remember that the more you practice these steps,

the easier they become!

Pray

with the

motiva-

tion of

knowing

the God

who

created

all things

— the

God

who

focuses

His love

on you!

Matthew 28

Verses 18-20

Then Jesus

came to them

and said, "All

power in

heaven and

on earth is

given to me.

So go and

make

followers of all

people in the

world. Baptize

them in the

name of the

Father and the

Son and the

Holy Spirit.

Teach them to

obey every-

thing that I

have taught

you, and I will

be with you

always, even

until the end of

this age."

DEVELOPING A

RELATIONSHIP

WITH THE HOLY

SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is

a Person.

He is equal with

the Father, and

equal with Jesus.

The Holy Spirit is our Comforter,

Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advo-

cate, Strengthener, and Standby. He

is God! And He remains with us forev-

er! As our Advocate, the Holy Spirit is

our Defense Attorney. No matter what

piece of evidence comes up, no mat-

ter how bad you mess up, He says,

“This doesn’t mean a thing. He’s not

guilty. Innocent!” The Holy Spirit is

the Spirit of Truth.

T H E W O R D F O R A L L N A T I O N S

In Matthew 28, Jesus is speaking. He mentions the Fa-ther, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He mentions them as being equal persons.

The Holy Spirit will be with us forever! He never leaves you ...so make sure that you don’t leave, ignore, or pull back from Him. He will never force Himself on you ...You must approach Him if you want a relationship with Him.

Page 8: The Word for All Nations, Vol 1 issue 1: Knowing God

John 14:16—26

And I will ask the Father,

and he will give you another

Counselor to be with you

forever-- the Spirit of truth.

The world cannot accept

him, because it neither sees

him nor knows him. But you

know him, for he lives with

you and will be in you. I will

not leave you as orphans; I

will come to you. Before

long, the world will not see

me anymore, but you will

see me. Because I live, you

also will live. On that day

you will realize that I am in

my Father, and you are in

me, and I am in you.

Whoever has my

commands and obeys them,

he is the one who loves me.

He who loves me will be

loved by my Father, and I

too will love him and show

myself to him." Then Judas

(not Judas Iscariot) said,

"But, Lord, why do you

intend to show yourself to

us and not to the world?"

Jesus replied, "If anyone

loves me, he will obey my

teaching. My Father will

love him, and we will come

to him and make our home

with him. He who does not

love me will not obey my

teaching. These words you

hear are not my own; they

belong to the Father who

sent me. "All this I have

spoken while still with you.

But the Counselor, the Holy

Spirit, whom the Father will

send in my name, will teach

you all things and will

remind you of everything I

have said to you. -20

The Holy Spirit lives with you and in you!

He will teach you all things: Spiritual things, how to pay

your bills, how to get along with people, how to eat so you

will live healthy, how to exercise the best way for your body,

etc. … ALL THINGS!

T H E W O R D F O R A L L N A T I O N S

The Holy Spirit’s presence is by grace. It is a gift. You can

never earn it, never be good enough to deserve it.

You must avoid a works mentality, thinking that He is with

you when you are good and repelled from you when you

are bad. His presence with you is a sheer, unearned, gift.

He is here in the name of Jesus, in the place of Jesus.

Every thing He says and does is in the place of Jesus.

The Holy Spirit is your Teacher.

You must recognize

And welcome Him

In order for His ministry to be performed in your life.

You must never ignore the Holy Spirit,

In John 14:16—26, we see a glimpse of all three members of the God-head at once.

He is physically living on earth right now! You have access to Him! You can talk to

Him any time and all the time. He is here with you! He will teach you everything

you want to know; He will do any miracle for you!

V O L U M E 1 , I S S U E 1 : K N O W I N G G O D P A G E 9

In John 15 and 16, Jesus told the disciples that it would be

better for them to have the Holy Spirit come. They had been

close to Jesus for three years: laughing with Him, eating with

Him, rejoicing with Him, asking Him questions and getting

answers from Him. This tells us what a wonderful relation-

ship is available to us with the Holy Spirit!

We can see Jesus because the Holy Spirit is here!

In John, chapters 14, 15, and 16 Jesus knew that He was ap-

proaching the end of His earthly ministry. He was preparing

His disciples to do without His physical presence. He was

saying, “I want you to meet My replacement: the Holy Spirit.

He will continue My ministry.”

Jesus told the disciples that the Holy Spirit would continue

His ministry on earth … healings, miracles, signs and won-

ders, teaching …and even more will be done through Him.

The Holy Spirit would physically replace Jesus on the earth

after Jesus returned to heaven.

This is why any miracle you read about in the Bible is possi-

ble today: The Holy Spirit is here, continuing Jesus’ ministry

on earth.

In the book of Acts, the Holy Spirit took up residence on earth.

Heavenly Father,

Your will be done

on earth as it is

in heaven!

Acts 2:1-4 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Ho-ly Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Him in conversation. Talk to Him

about anything and everything.

Avoid all legal-

ism as you fel-

lowship with

God ...such as

timing yourself

as you pray.

Spend time

with God out of

friendship, not

out of duty.

Do not seek an

experience with

God ...Seek

God, Himself!

To experience God’s presence all

day long, learn to worship Him as

you are on the go: in your car, work-

ing around the house or at your job,

etc. Worship Him in the stillness but

don’t make that your only worship.

This type of worship has the same

effect as writing a love letter to your

spouse:.

Express your love

to God. This is

what being in His

presence is all

about. Worship

Him; praise Him;

and thank Him.

Sing to Him. Talk

to Him, telling

Him of your love.

Being in God’s presence is like

soaking Him in!

Psalm 50 Verses 3,4 From the dazzle of Zion, God blazes into view. Our God makes his entrance, he's not shy in his coming. Starbursts of fireworks precede him. Verses 14, 15 Spread for me a banquet of praise, serve High God a feast of kept promises, And call for help when you're in trouble - I'll help you, and you'll honor me." Verse 23 It's the praising life that honors me. As soon as you set your foot on the Way, I'll show you my salvation."
