Light—A Gone Novel—Young Adult Fiction By Michael Grant

It's been over a year since every person over the age of fourteen disappeared from Perdido Beach, CA. Battles have been fought—against hunger and lies and plague, and epic battles of good against evil. Now the gaiaphage has been re-born as Diana's malicious mutant daughter, Gaia. Gaia is endlessly hungry for destruction. She yearns to conquer her nemesis and then bend the entire world to her warped will. As long-standing enemies become allies, secrets are re-vealed and unexpected sacrifices are made. Will their attempts to save them-selves and one another matter in the end, or will the kids of Perdido Beach per-ish in this final struggle? Raising the Bar—Juvenile Nonfiction By Gabrielle Douglas

I started gymnastics back when I was six, but I never imagined my life would become this amazing—or this crazy! I’m loving every minute. Since winning two gold medals at the 2012 London Olympics, I’ve appeared on TV shows, traveled to amazing places, and watched my entire life transform. At the same time, I have to find time for schoolwork, practicing new gymnastic routines, and well, sleep. Balancing everything has meant a lot of hard work—but it’s so worth it. Get to know the people in my life—old and new—who have helped me reach my dreams, and see what it’s been like to wow the world. I’m thank-ful for everything I have and can’t wait to share my world with you!

Goofballs The Mysterious Talent Show Mystery—Juvenile Fiction By Tony Abbott

The Badger Point School is holding a talent show, and the Goofballs—sleuths Jeff, Mara, Kelly, and Brian—are set to be its stars. That is if the show even hap-pens, with problems and mysteries at every turn. A giant pink tuba goes miss-ing, the costumes are all the wrong size, and the talent show's director disap-pears before the cast's eyes. Good thing that the Goofballs are expert detec-tives. Funny, punny, and full of fun, this latest case in the Goofballs series will be eagerly devoured by old and new fans, alike. Check out all four books in this series at the library.

Step of Faith—Adult Fiction By Richard Paul Evans

The fourth journal of Evans’ Walk Series follows Alan Christoffersen who lost his heart when his wife was killed in an accident almost one year ago. He lost his trust when his business partner stole his advertising business. He lost his home when the bank took his house. So Alan decided to leave his painful memories behind and walk from Seattle to the farthest point on the map, Key West, but in St. Louis, he is forced to stop.

Now, diagnosed with a brain tumor, Alan must go to Los Angeles for treatment. He is surrounded by those who care most for him: his father, who is happy to have him home; Falene, who has been by his side through his most difficult times; and Nicole, who helped him recover from a mugging in Spokane. Alan

alienates them all, and resumes his journey in angry loneliness. The people he meets as he walks the dusty southern back roads have lessons to teach Alan about accepting love. He just has to have faith that life can be worth living again. The Gate Thief—Adult Fiction By Orson Scott Card

In this sequel to The Lost Gate, bestselling author Orson Scott Card continues his fantastic tale of the Mages of Westil who live in exile on Earth. Danny North is still in high school, yet he holds in his heart and mind all the stolen outselves of thirteen centuries of gatemages. The Families want to kill him if they can’t control him. He is far too powerful. On Westil, Wad is now nearly powerless—he lost everything to Danny in their struggle. Even if he can survive the revenge of his enemies, he still must make peace with the Gatemage Daniel. When Danny took that power from Loki, he also took the responsibility for the Great Gates. And when he comes face-to-face with the mages, Bel and Ishtoreth, he will come to understand just why Loki closed the gates all those centuries ago.

My Crocodile Does Not Bite—Picture Book By Joe Kulka

It is the day of the annual pet show at school. When Ernest shows up with his gigantic but harmless-looking crocodile, prissy classmate Cindy Lou immedi-ately begins to harp that everyone will get bitten, to which Ernest protests, “my crocodile does not bit.” As Ernest shows off the many talents of his crocodile, he is a big hit with everyone except Cindy Lou. The jealous girl’s behavior esca-lates to the point where it seems inevitable that something bad will happen.

Waiting to be Heard—A Memoir—Nonfiction By Amanda Knox

Amanda Knox spent four years in a foreign prison for a crime she did not com-mit. In the fall of 2007, 20-year-old Amanda left Seattle to study in Italy, but her life was shattered when her roommate was murdered in their apartment. After a controversial trial, Amanda was convicted and imprisoned. But in 2011, an appeals court overturned the decision and vacated the murder charge. Free at last, she returned home to the U.S., where she has remained silent, until now. With intelligence, grace, and candor, Amanda Knox tells the story of her har-rowing ordeal—a labyrinthine nightmare of crime and punishment, innocence and vindication—and of the unwavering support of family and friends who tirelessly worked to help her win her freedom.

Vegetable Literacy: Cooking and Gardening with twelve families from the edible plant kingdom, with over 300 deliciously simple recipes—Nonfiction By Deborah Madison

America's authority on vegetarian cooking reveals the surprising relationships between vegetables, edible flowers, and herbs. Understanding these connec-tions help home cooks see everyday vegetables in new light. Madison has been at the vanguard of the vegetarian cooking movement for over 30 years, em-boldening millions of readers to cook simple, elegant, plant-based food. This is her crowning achievement: a celebration of the diversity of the plant kingdom, and an exploration of the relationships between vegetables, edible flowers, herbs, and familiar wild plants within the same botanical families.

10 Buildings that Changed America—Nonfiction By Dan Protess

10 Buildings that Changed America tells the stories of ten influential works of architecture, the people who imagined them, and the way these landmarks ushered in innovative cultural shifts throughout our society. From American architectural stalwarts like Louis Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright, to modern revolutionaries like Frank Gehry and Robert Venturi, this book examines the most prominent buildings designed by the most noteworthy architects of our time. Also profiled are Americans less noted for their architectural acumen, but no less significant for their contributions to the field. Thomas Jefferson, a self-taught architect, is profiled for designing the iconic Virginia State Capitol.

America's first major public building forged a philosophical link between America and the world's earliest democracies.

Lean In—Audio Book Nonfiction By Sheryl Sandberg

Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook COO, has become one of America’s most galvanizing leaders. Thirty years after women became 50 percent of the college graduates in the United States, men still hold the vast majority of leadership positions in government and industry. This means that women’s voices are still not heard equally in the decisions that most affect our lives. In Lean In, Sheryl Sandberg examines why women’s progress in achieving leadership roles has stalled, ex-plains the root causes, and offers compelling, commonsense solutions that can empower women to achieve their full potential. She urges women to take risks and seek new challenges, to find work that they love, and to remain passion-ately engaged with it at the highest levels throughout their lives.

World War Z—Audio Book Fiction By Max Brooks

The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched first-hand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world. He recorded the testimony of men, women, and sometimes children who came face-to-face with the living, or at least the undead, hell of that dreadful time. Brooks tells the story in the haunting and riveting voices of the men and women who witnessed the horror firsthand.

Arrested Development—DVD TV Series (Seasons 1-3 available)

The Bluth clan lives a life of excess, funded by the family credit card and paid for by patriarch George whose fortune came from the tract home development business. Oldest son George, nicknamed Gob, is an “illusionist” of minor impor-tance who has anger management issues. Youngest son, Buster, wastes his days taking obscure graduate school courses. Daughter Lindsay is a vain socialite. The only sane family member is Lindsay’s twin brother Michael, who is a wid-ower. Just as Michael decides to wash his hands of the family, he is forced to step up and aid his family in adjusting to new lives. New episodes were released on Netflix May 26. Since its debut in 2003, the se-

ries has received widespread critical acclaim, including six Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe. It has attracted a cult following, including several fan-based websites. Time listed it among the magazine’s “100 Best TV Shows of All-TIME” in 2007.
