The Women's Foundation's

Nicky Goren and Latricia

Allen are joined by A

Wider Circle's Mark

Bergel. Mark explained the

impact A Wider Circle is

having on poverty in the

Washington region with the

help of volunteers, donors

and funders like The

Women's Foundation.

Volunteers learn more

about Washington Area

Women's Foundation and

A Wider Circle.

Volunteer and Women’s

Foundation donor Aurie Hall

helped spruce up a client meeting

room at A Wider Circle with blue

paint.

Women’s Foundation board

members Barb Strom

Thompson and Jennifer

Cortner.

Two young volunteers made sure

donated dishes are in “dignity

condition” for the families who

come to A Wider Circle.

Women’s Foundation

Controller Virginie Carey

brought her family,

including her daughter

Julie.

Sorting the toy donations

was understandably

distracting for some

young volunteers.

1K Club member Lindsey

Dendy brought a friend to

share the experience with.

Coby ran the show in the kitchen area

at A Wider Circle. After cleaning and

organizing dishes, he helped clients

pick out some to take home.

Maria Hankerson was new to The Women’s Foundation. She

was in good hands with Anne Morrison, who has been one of the

Foundation’s supporters since around the time that it was

founded.

Quality control

checks ensured that

families would not

be receiving donated

food that had already

expired.

The Women’s Foundation’s Board Chair Rachel Kronowitz and her

daughter Tessa, who was a superhero in the pantry at A Wider Circle.

Volunteers set up and decorated a

birthday corner so that parents could

pick out gifts for children. Other

volunteers made birthday cards to go

with the gifts.

The Women’s Foundation

board member, Kim

Natovitz Cutler (far right)

had her hands full but still

managed to get a lot done!

Parents who brought their

children agreed that A

Wider Circle was a great

volunteer opportunity for

kids.

Thanks to the generosity of donors from across the region, A Wider Circle’s

shelves were well-stocked with children’s clothes; but the organization is always

accepting donations of bedding, furniture, household goods, mattresses, etc. in

addition to kids’ clothes. For more information, please go to

Nicky Goren’s height came in handy when it was time for a coat of paint over the

doorway! Nicky is the president of Washington Area Women’s Foundation.

A Wider Circle’s

motto served as

inspiration

throughout the day.

Washington Area Women’s Foundation would like to thank all of the volunteers

who generously donated their time to A Wider Circle on Martin Luther King, Jr.

Day. The Foundation would also like to thank A Wider Circle for hosting us and

showing us the dynamic impact that an organization can have on an entire

community. Just imagine what we could accomplish with more individuals,

organizations and companies all working together toward a common goal. The

Women’s Foundation is mobilizing the community to transform the lives of

women and girls, so that our region might become the place Dr. King

envisioned when he talked about a beloved community….

“Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'”

“Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what

I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the interrelated

structure of reality.”

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
