Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. By Aryana BookerGomez

Martin Luther King was a man that marched for black people.  His death was horrific. He was shot by a white male. King left behind his wife, Coretta, and three

kidsMartin III, Yolanda, and Bernice.   But let's go back a bit to when he was a boy. Martin Luther King was born on January 15, 1922. When King grew up, he played with a white boy in his yard. The boy’s mom came out and told him not to play with her son.  King’s mother came out and explained to him that black children and white children weren’t allowed to play together.        King grew up in Georgia and graduated at 15.  He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in 1948 from Morehouse College.  Later he met Coretta, and they married.  He became a minister and a civil rights leader. Dr. King  gave many speeches and led several

boycotts. One of his most famous speeches was given at the March on Washington. That speech was called “I Have a Dream”.  People from all over came to see Dr. King give that speech in 1963.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. helped blacks and others a lot.  Now we can all do things together.  We are very thankful.

How to Stay Safe in Severe Weather

by Au’Briauna Baldwin

Here are a few ways to stay safe during a blizzard, hurricane, and tornado. In a blizzard, make sure you find shelter indoors. Also, stay away from windows and doors. If there is a hurricane, leave areas that are in the path of a hurricane well before it strikes. If you are caught in the hurricane, find shelter in a strong brick or stone building. It is also a good idea to find high ground. Like in a blizzard, stay away from windows and doors. If a tornado hits, stay safe by finding shelter in a basement or a tornado shelter. Stay clear of outside walls and doors. Next, get away from cars, mobile homes, and other objects that might be flipped or thrown by winds. Finally, if you are outdoors, find shelter in a ditch, ravine, or cave. Cover your head with your arms. Those are some ways to stay safe during storms.

In My Opinion… Why I Don’t Like to Go Out to Eat

By Alex Graham

Do you not like to go out to eat?  Do your parents ask you to give them at least three reasons why you don’t want to go out? Then I suggest you read this paragraph…

First, I have to wait in line.  Then you have to wait for your drink. Then you have to wait for your food.   Second, I could be doing more fun things like running around the house.  Or I could get my drink and food earlier instead of waiting.  I could be done by the time I would get my food in a restaurant.  Third, going to a restaurant could be a waste of money. Someone might not want to go, and you you've got a special seat.  Also, you might change your mind, and you have already paid for your food.  It could just be a waste of money, and nobody likes their food.   That is why I don’t like to eat out.

Principal for the Day

By Divine Holland

If I were principal for the day, it would be amazing.  These are the things I would do.  First, my students would have the fanciest school in the world.  It would have a chandelier in the cafeteria.  They would have ice cream for snack.  Also, students could drink pop all day. Second, if I was principal, students would wear uniforms.  The colors would be hot pink, turquoise, black, purple, light green, yellow, neon pink, and green.  They could also wear orange and purple, as well.  Third, my school would have no rules, because students would already have to follow their parents’ rules. Kids need a break!  Furthermore, my students would get rewarded with ice cream, field trips, pool, and parties.

Movie Reviews The Best Movie

By Alex Graham

Star Wars 7 is the best movie and here are the reasons why. My first reason is the graphics are great. This helps if you are seeing it in 3D or IMax. It also helps the weapons look more realistic. It also makes the background look better. Second, the movie is fast paced, making it look cooler. When some characters talk, it looks like they are really talking. Also, it makes the movie seem faster. Finally, there are jokes in the movie, even though they are not meant to be in there. I like the way the director puts them in secretly. Also, it makes it funnier when they are noticed later. Star Wars 7 is the best movie.

Love the Legos

By Wayne Hughes Jr.

Do you want to see a funny movie that’s full of adventure? Well, go see the Lego Movie. It’s the best movie ever! Here are the reasons why. First, it is funny. The characters are funny. The things they do are funny. Even the songs are funny. Next, it is filled with adventure. The characters are always going on missions. They go to different places. Last, it has so many legos. Everything in the movie is made out of legos. Even the characters are made out of legos. Now, you might think it’s the best movie ever.

Goosebumps By Ayoni Mahaffey

Want a movie with good actors, 3D glasses, and tons of laughs? Go to Goosebumps and have fun. First, the actors are so cool. They know what’s going to happen, but they act like they don’t. Next, they don’t forget their lines. Also, they don't laugh in every scene when I would laugh so hard. Later, when it's time to get to work, they play around on the set. They make a few mistakes and then fix them.

When you see Goosebumps, you get to wear 3D glasses. 3D glasses are neat because they make everything look close. They’re like magnifying glasses. They come in different color and sizes. They also make the screen clear. These are a few reasons that make Goosebumps the best movie.

Good Reads

Flip and Flop By April Jacko

I would recommend the book Flip and Flop to a friend. It's about two best friends who find friends along the way. They all love to play in the snow.

Kilie Jean By Elizabeth Boone

Kilie Jean is what I would recommend to a friend. It’s a cool book, and it is during the Fourth of July holiday. Kilie is going to be in the talent show and is singing “The Star Spangled Banner”.

The Boxcar Children By Anthony Nelko

The book I read was The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner. The book was about four children that were on their own. They try to live in a box car. The oldest boy, Henry, does odd jobs for Dr. Moore and his mother. Henry has two sisters, Jessie and Violet, and a little brother named Benny. The last chapter I read was about the children having a big meal with little turnips, onions, and meat. I’m not finished reading yet, but it is a good book so far.

Creative Corner The Three Bears By Olivia Rice

Once there were three bears. They were all best friends. One was named Lady Bear. The others’ names were Alex and Corey. They wanted to go to a concert, but they did not have any money to get tickets. So, they did a magic show on the street. However, that did not go well. Then they danced, but that did not go well either. They tried to sing, but even that didn’t go well. Next, they had a yard

sale. Now that worked! Later that day, they went online and bought the tickets. “Yaaah!” said Corey. “We got the tickets to go to the Katy Berry concert,” said Alex. They got in line but they got to go up front because their friend worked there. Lady Bear’s friend let them sit in the front seats. Alex, Corey, and Lady Bear had a good time at the Katy Berry concert.

The Boy Who Could Talk to Animals

 By

Au’briauna Baldwin

Once upon a time there was a small, dark town in England.  In that town, there was a boy named J.J. who was all alone.  Suddenly, a big bear crept out from behind him.  J.J. ran straight  into the woods screaming, “Help!”  Then, he saw a wolf.  He walked up to the wolf, and the wolf scratched him. The boy tried talking to the wolf.  He said, “Please don't hurt me!”  The wolf spoke back.  He said, “Ok, I won't  hurt you.” After that, he realized he was the only boy who could talk to animals.  So, J.J. and the animals decided to be friends.  They walked off into the woods and played catch.  This is the story of the boy who could talk to animals.

Cub Bear

By Carlie Napper

There once was  a bear cub  at  a pool at  Splash Lagoon.  He was relaxing until a boy named  Jack came along. Jack said, “Do you want to go get a juicebox?”  Cub Bear said, “No thanks.” That is when Cub Bear asked if Jack wanted to get in the pool. Jack said, “Yes”  and accidently pushed Cub  Bear into the wall. Cub Bear yelled, “Don’t do that!  I'm going to call my mom.”  “I'm going to call my mom too,” said Jack.  So, they both called their mothers.  Jack’s mother said, “Say sorry.”  When Cub Bear called his mother, she said, ”Say sorry to Jack.”   So they both apologized.  At  the end, they said, “Let's just be friends!”

A cinquain poem is a verse of five lines that do not rhyme.  Created by Adelaide Crapsey, the cinquain describes a person, place or thing using a specific pattern.  One pattern used is the first line is one word, which is the title of the poem.  The second line contains two words which are adjectives that describe the title.  The third line has three words that tell more about the subject or shows action.  Many times these words are gerunds or verbs ending with “ing”.  The fourth line has four words that may show emotion about the subject and may be individual words or a phrase. The fifth line is one word that is a synonym of the title..
