Dear Guests: It is my pleasure to welcome you to our school’s 4th musical presentation “The Wizard of Oz”. Ridge Community High School has been most proud of its many achievements over the past 8 years and the many accomplishments of excellence that demonstrate our high expectations. Our Fine Arts Department has played a significant role in these accomplishments.
Our students and staff have worked very hard to bring this play to life on the stage to provide us with an evening of music, dance and entertainment that is reminiscent of the story we all know so well. Director’s Note:
Over seventy years ago, MGM Studios took a popular fairy
tale and created one of the most memorable movie experiences of
all time. Tonight, the legacy of L. Frank Baum’s timeless story is
again retold, this time live on stage. What is it about Dorothy’s
quest for “home” that has enchanted generation after generation to
follow their dreams? In today’s endless pursuit to climb corporate
ladders, possess the newest technology, or desire to achieve
success, many of us have lost the idea of “home.” For some,
“home” is a career or relationship; for others a physical place long
forgotten by years of crowded schedules and missed opportunities.
I asked our cast and crew during the first production
meeting what “winning” would look like for our show (having
been raised in a family of athletes, I know that the sign of a
successful program is a team that wins). Some felt the number of
tickets we sold would demonstrate a “win”, while others felt a
standing ovation at the end. However, at our last rehearsal I asked
the students again what would be the sign that our production was
a successful “win”. This time the answer was much clearer;
“Taking our audience back home” was the overwhelming response.
Tonight’s production is just that, a journey back home.
There are so many people who deserve our thanks, please
see the back of the program for those who have given of their time
and resources so that tonight’s presentation would be possible. For
now, I would like to especially thank you- our faithful audience.
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to be here
with us tonight. Our cast and crew are one of the finest groups of
students I have ever had the privilege of working with and I am so
thankful for the opportunity to have given leadership over this
endeavor. Whether it is a person, place, or fond memory, our hope
tonight is that you will rediscover that no matter where life takes
you, there truly is “no place like home.”
Break a Leg Cast & Crew!
