‘THE WIZ’

I will quote Adderperle (played by Maia) with 3 words to describe the show: “fab-u-lous”. This is the most complete show we have ever produced and much credit goes to Becky Manning who spent a lot of time finding the right script and a lot of time choosing parts that would suit the children’s talents. There were a striking number of excellent,

straightforward. One story comes to us from a child who suffered the death of a close family member yesterday and, though very upset, still felt that the show must go on! In her mother’s words, “a performance can be life-affirming”. This is true as much for the each child as it is for us as parents and teachers and indeed as a school.

Our special thanks to the children; to Rebecca Manning, Pip Newton, Bryony Foley and Barbara Dalton. Thank you also Sarah Hoskins and Emma Addleton for the wonderful supporting art work that is exhibited in the atrium of the MCT. Thank you to all the teachers, parents, cast and crew that made this such a great end to a busy and successful term.

‘The Wiz’ is a modern take on ‘The Wizard of Oz’. We were all very excited about our parts in the play and I was the good witch of the south, Glinda, with a solo song to perform. After weeks of hard work, the time had come and our first performance was in front of the school. It went very well and I was happy. We then had our first performance in the evening to the parents; it went very well and I was pleased with myself. The last performance came but this time I wasn’t so happy as I didn’t sing all the right words. Overall, the first night was the best and I had an amazing time!

‘The Wiz’ was a great experience. Everyone liked their part, even if it was a small, medium or main part. One of my favourite scenes of the play was with the Yellow Brick Road. I was a Kalidah and I had to say that I looked like a ‘walking bush’, which made the audience laugh. It was the first time the school had put on a musical and all the parents seemed to like it.

‘The Wiz’ was a great time for people to shine and enjoy themselves. Everyone was clapping to the music and it made me really happy to have such good friends. ‘The Wiz’ inspired me and will be a memory I will have forever. Ben

I doubt that there is any person in Year 6 who didn’t enjoy putting on ‘The Wiz’. And one of the best things about it was missing all the school lessons! In my role as ‘Wiz 1’, I loved the furry green trousers and the emerald coat that was thrown over the top. The make-up team gave me green eyeliner and green lips, as well as spraying me with fake tan. I had a microphone taped to my ear and a green afro before appearing on stage to show it all off.

I really enjoyed ‘The Wiz’ as it was the best play I had ever been involved with. I played one of the main roles of the Lion. It was amazing! I had to practise my lines every day.When the day of the show came, everyone was so nervous but, at the same time, full of enthusiasm. I performed in three large scenes and I didn’t forget any of my lines.‘The Wiz’ is something I will remember, even when I go up to the Senior School. It was truly fantastic and I’d like to do it again. I miss the play and the staff and I want to thank everyone who made the play fun. The Year 6 play in the future may be different, but I hope you all enjoy it. Work hard and put everything into it as this will help you to get the role you want. And remember, have fun!
