What to Know Before Going Electric TID has been providing reliable and affordable electric service to our residential customers for more than 90 years and seeks to continue to deliver that same high level of service to power customers’ Plug-in Electric Vehicles (PEV). To do so, TID is offering an optional PEV rate (DT) that could save PEV owners money on their electric bill. Residential customers who have a registered PEV that is recharged via a recharging outlet at the customer’s premises qualify for the DT rate schedule. This schedule is not available to customers with a conventional, charge sustaining hybrid, low speed electric vehicle, or electrically powered motorcycle. There are several factors to consider before you purchase a PEV and switching to the optional rate schedule. Customers should take into consideration the type of vehicle and the size of the battery and energy consumption required to charge it. These features will vary from model to model and impact the distance you will be able to drive on a single charge – one of the most important factors a PEV owner must consider. In addition, you may need to upgrade your home’s wiring or electrical panel to charge the vehicle and it may be necessary for TID to upgrade the infrastructure that delivers electricity to your home. Not all customers will save money when making the switch to the DT rate schedule, thus you should call TID at (209) 883-8222 to understand the impacts that purchasing a PEV will have on your electric bill. What to Know Before Going ElectricTID has been providing reliable and affordable electric service to our residential customers for more than 90 years and seeks to continue to deliver that same high level of service to power customers’ Plug-in Electric Vehicles (PEV).

Protect Yourself:Don’t Fall Victim

to FraudHere are some tips to help you avoid being scammed :

• Always be skeptical of pushy people who demand payment or personal information, especially if they threaten to turn off your power.

• TID does not use e-mail, social media or text messaging to solicit payments.

• TID does not solicit payments after regular business hours, on weekends or holidays when TID’s offices are closed and we never insist on a pre-paid card for payment.

• When facing disconnection, making your payment in person at a TID office is always the preferred method of settling your account.

• TID employees drive white vehicles with the blue TID logo on the side and our employees have company issued identification badges.

• Don’t trust that the number on your caller ID is legitimate; if you are ever in doubt of the identity of the person on the phone or at your door claiming to represent TID, please call us at 209-883-8222 to confirm their identity and purpose.

Are you considering solar? While installing solar is a viable option for many households, there are several factors TID customers should consider before making the investment.

TID customers choosing to install solar will have their rate schedule changed to a self-generation rate. Self-generation rates schedules each have Customer, Demand and Time-of-Use Energy (TOU) charges.

The Customer Charge is a fixed charged based on the costs for metering, billing, collection and related costs.

The Demand Charge is a charge for the maximum amount of energy used in any 15 minute interval within the billing period. TID stands ready to supply as much energy as our customers demand at any given moment. This charge is for TID’s cost associated with the infrastructure necessary to provide reliable demand service to our customers.

The TOU associated with the self-generation rate simply means that instead of a single rate for energy all day and night, there will be a different rate during two different time blocks each day. The cost and value of power is different in the on-peak block than in the off-peak block each weekday and customers can choose to use energy in the off-peak block at a substantially lower rate.

Solar customers can still be compensated for their excess energy. If at the end of the billing period the customer has generated more than they use, based on their net generation with their use each month for the on- and off-peak periods, the customer will be credited TID’s Short Run Marginal Cost for the excess generation. The Short Run Marginal Cost is published at www.tid.org.

In addition to the rate schedule, customers will also be required to pay a one-time $600 meter charge and will continue to receive their monthly electric bill. Customers should be cautious of a solar vendor claiming to be able to eliminate their electric bill.

TID customers should remember that not all customers will save money by installing solar. Each customer is unique in how they use energy and contract terms for solar vary. Before investing in solar, customers should call TID to schedule an energy audit to determine if there are ways to reduce their energy use. The more energy efficient your home is, the less solar you will need.
