The City of Williston will need more than $625 million dollars during the next six years to meet the needs of its population explosion.

The estimate is documented in the new Williston Impact Statement 2013 released recently.

The brochure contains verified data about the pros and cons of the City’s rapid development. The data is being shared with city, state and federal lawmakers, developers, investors and other people interested in Williston’s projections.

Williston is at ground zero of the Bakken Oil Formation and it’s the largest city and economic hub in the oil patch.

In 2012 the U.S. Census Bureau named Williston the fastest growing micropolitan area from April 1, 2010 to June 1, 2011. Williston’s 8.8 percent growth easily topped the second fastest growing micro, The Village, FL at 4.8 percent.

Williston’s service population has more than doubled during the past three years. In 2010 the City’s population was nearly 17,000 while in 2012 it was more than 38,000. The City of Williston Population Study conducted by researchers at North Dakota State University estimates the service population will grow to 50,000 by 2017.

The City of Williston committed over one million dollars in studies addressing the

impact and future needs of the community. Williston contracted Advanced Engineering and Environmental Services, Inc. to determine the

City’s future infrastructure requirements. The data compiled in the Six Year Capital Investment Plan predicts Williston will need more than $625 million in infrastructure upgrades including $102.2 million for the storm water system; $18.4 million for solid waste management; $23.7 million for water system improvements; $74.5 million for government facilities; $87.7 for waste water system upgrades, $60 million for a new airport and $258.9 million for transportation.

Williston, ND – The Lady Tetons took out their frustration from Monday night’s loss in Gillette on Lake Region State College on Wednesday night at the Well dominating the Royals in every aspect of the game.

The Tetons (16-3) (1-0) played near flawless defense in the first half as they went into the locker room leading 44 - 18.

In the second half they poured on the offense en-route to an 81 – 52 victory.

The Tetons were led in scoring by Maggie Lorenz who dropped in 22, while Jackie Lee added 16, and Jazzmine Robinson and Katie

King each had 12. Robinson was hobbled during the game by a sprained ankle.

Coach Axelson was very happy with how her players responded to the loss on Monday,“These lady’s showed a lot of pride tonight. They took our message after the game on Monday night and executed the game plan.” Axelson also said, “We need to work on breaking the press. We really struggled with that late in the game.”

The ladies will be back on the hardwood on Thursday January 24th with a game against Bismarck State College in Bismarck. Tip-Off is scheduled for 6pm.

Jackson Leads Tetons to WinWin Streak Reaches 4

The first 20 minutes looked like it would be a real slug fest between WSC and Lake Region. The Tetons (15-6) (1-0) were a little flat early

against a very aggressive Royals team, but kept pressuring LRSC and led 37-31 at half time.In the second half strong Teton defensive play along with poor shooting by the Royals allowed Williston State to stake out a 26 point lead. The Royals made a late run and cut the lead to 11 but time ran out there and the Green and White won 77-66.

Coach Peterson again liked the team play, “We played well as a team again and kept building the lead but we let up at the end and let their press turn us over.” Coach also added, “This is a big win, we did it without Marquel and Miguel and we’ll need efforts like this the rest of the season.”

Williston State will be back in action on Thursday January 24th with a game against Bismarck State College in Bismarck. Tip-Off is scheduled for 8pm.

Heavy Industrial Lots For Sale(BPT) - When it comes to value purchases, there are few that compare to buying a used car over a new one, since new cars begin to depreciate the minute they are driven off the lot. If you are able to find a used car that still has plenty of life, you can save thousands from what you would pay for a new car.

While buying used can net you the best deal on a car purchase, it also requires you to do your homework to make sure you truly are getting good value from your purchase. Here are six steps to help you rest assured that your used car purchase is a good one:

• Start by identifying the type of car you want to buy. Consider expanding your search to similar car models that offer the same types of benefits. For example, though the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain are different in name, they are nearly identical mechanically.

• Use online resources like Edmunds.com and car enthusiast forums to identify any red flags around given models or years.- Focus less on reported reliability when the car was new and more on the car’s reliability today. Minor problems in the first year are much less important than major problems that might show up a few years down the road.

• If you discover that a particular model might contain features that don’t age well, it doesn’t necessarily mean you should avoid the car. Aftermarket part manufacturers often create good solutions for original problems.

• Once you have identified a specific car, use the car’s VIN number to buy a vehicle history report from Carfax.com or one of its competitors. Simply googling the VIN number can also pull up free auction records and sales histories that may be helpful. If the history report is different than what the owner has told you, there’s plenty of reason to proceed with caution.

• Next, develop an inspection checklist to go over yourself as you test drive and examine the car. Check to make sure the license plates are current and verify the vehicle recently passed an emissions test if they are required in your area. Check brakes, hoses, belts, the body and underbody for signs of wear or damage - a dealer should be more than willing to put the car on a lift for your inspection if you are serious about buying the car. Make sure the heat

and air conditioning work.

• Do not worry if you are not a car expert and have no idea how to evaluate some systems on the car. Even if the car passes your personal inspection, you’re not done yet. Take the car to a trusted professional mechanic for an inspection.

If you’ve done your research and followed these precautionary steps, you’ll feel informed as you negotiate a selling price and can rest assured that you’re getting a quality vehicle. All that’s left is enjoying your new purchase.

Meanwhile, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the peppers and the remaining sliced onion half; season with salt and pepper. Saute until the vegetables are softened and caramelized around the edges, about 8 minutes. Add the beer, cover and cook until the peppers are tender, about 5 minutes.

Warm the tortillas on the grill. Thinly slice the steak on the bias; divide among the tortillas along with the peppers and onions. Thin the reserved chimichurri sauce with the remaining 1 tablespoon lemon juice; drizzle over the fajitas. Serve with lime wedges, if desired.

It’s been a decade since Arnold Schwarzenegger toplined a movie. And though the former governor of California shows signs of age in The Last Stand, critics say the movie is a reasonably satisfying meat-and-potatoes action flick that harkens back to Schwarzenegger’s 1980s heyday. The Governator stars as the sheriff of a small border town who becomes the last line of defense when a notorious cartel leader and his heavily-armed henchmen attempt to escape into Mexico. The pundits say The Last Stand is a formulaic action flick, but one that’s elevated by Schwarzenegger’s assured presence, and the result is violent, exuberant fun.

Schwarzenegger’s wrinkles actually serve him well in playing Ray Owens, a veteran lawman content to work his Mayberry-esque border enclave and baby-sit unskilled deputies (Jaimie Alexander, Luis Guzman) after tougher days in Los Angeles. The accented robo-delivery is what you remember, but Schwarzenegger projects weary bemusement with nary an exclamation of “I’m too old for this [expletive].” (Nothing quite so clichéd, anyway.)

Things start to get dicey for Ray’s department when slithery neo-gunslinger Peter Stormare, playing twangy with gusto, hits town with

a mystery assignment, a paramilitary crew, and bridge-building gear. Meanwhile, up in Vegas, Forest Whitaker’s FBI man has his hands full pursuing Noriega’s baddie, who’s

escaped custody and is rocketing south in a 1,000-horsepower Corvette. (Turns out he’s a jefe-professional racer. Again — loopy.) Guess where he’s headed?

Kim doesn’t sweat interweaving his story threads in any tightly controlled way. Just when the need-for-speed stuff really starts to gain traction, he’ll shift for a surprisingly lengthy stretch to comic relief with the deputies and local wacko Johnny Knoxville. And the director will persist until the buffoonery produces something legitimately funny, like jittery Guzman rattling off alternatives to, well, a last stand. Not the most iconic choice for Schwarzenegger to announce that he’s back, but not one that’s completely prefab, either.

This Week in HistoryAt 11:38 a.m. EST, on January 28, 1986, the space shuttle Challenger lifts off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, and Christa McAuliffe is on her way to becoming the first ordinary U.S. civilian to travel into space. McAuliffe, a 37-year-old high school social studies teacher from New Hampshire, won a competition that earned her a place among the seven-member crew of the Challenger. She underwent months of shuttle training but then, beginning January 23, was forced to wait six long days as the Challenger’s launch countdown was repeatedly delayed because of weather and technical problems. Finally, on January 28, the shuttle lifted off. Seventy-three seconds later, hundreds on the ground, including Christa’s family, stared in disbelief as the shuttle exploded in a forking plume of smoke and fire. Millions more watched the wrenching tragedy unfold on live television. There were no survivors.
