YHI & PIRELLI PARTNER WITH NZ PORSCHE CLUB SERIES

PIRELLI PORSCHE SERIES CALENDAR

YHI is proud to announce a new partnership with Porsche Club New Zealand, with Pirelli appointed as the control tyre for the coming season of the club’s race series.

With two rounds of the series to be run in conjunction with the NZ Porsche Festival in January at Hampton Downs the Club has seen increased interest from drivers, with thirty one cars set to participate this season.

“The grid for the coming season will be exciting” says Porsche Club Committee Member Peter Stewart “We have a number of late model GT3 Cup cars set to take part, together with a strong grid of 996 GT3 Cup cars and a very competitive group of 944s”.

The Pirelli Porsche Series is divided into three classes with each class determined by a time band at each circuit. All cars in the series will run on Pirelli Race slicks and Pirelli Pzero Race Rain tyres.

Open Class features the fastest cars including the latest 991 and 997 factory prepared GT3 Cup cars together with other Porsche race cars including a GT2 and one ex Lighting Direct Le Mans Turbo car.

A Class features older 996 GT3 Cup cars and B class features entry level 944s together with older 911s.

The series is also supported by the Porsche importer European Motors Limited, Castrol Lubricants, Woods Surveyors and Engineers and Dempsey Wood Limited.

Pirelli exclusive motorsport tyre dealer Continental Cars Tyre Centre will offer track support at each race, assisting drivers with tyre fitting.

The Pirelli Porsche Series launch and technical evening was hosted in July at the Continental Cars Porsche show room, with Pirelli Technical Director Simon Pool from Australia attending to talk about the performance attributes of N rated Porsche tyres and offer technical advice to club members.

We look forward to the first event of the race calendar on 17 and 18 of October at Taupo Motorsport Park.

The hard working team from Ohakune based Desert Defenders Off Road Club will again run the popular Winter Woolies 4WD Tagalong event in October to raise money for Variety The Children’s Charity.

The Achilles Radial NZ Winter Woolies 4WD Tagalong is an annual day trip that escorts participants through the spectacular terrain of the New Zealand Defense Force base in Waiouru. The event caters for a variety of off-road enthusiasts – from heavily equipped off-road trucks to family 4X4s fitted with off-road tyres.

Following on from the success of previous years it has been announced that this year the event will run across two days – Saturday October 3rd and

Sunday October 4th, with a limit of eighty trucks per day.

YHI is proud to offer support again at this years event by donating Achilles Radial goodie bags for entrants attending & a contribution to Variety The Children’s Charity.

Join us on October 3rd & 4th along with the Desert Defenders Off Road Club at this fun and social event to help raise funds for Variety The Children’s Charity.

Camping is available free of charge at the Karioi Domain for those who wish to stay and meals are available over the weekend or attendees are welcome to self cater.

Last year’s event saw ninety five trucks attend with the help of twenty five volunteers who offered their time as scrutineers, medics, catering, administration and group leaders. Twelve trucks from YHI’s social 4x4 adventures off-road club travelled to the event from auckland. The event raised over $7,000.00 for the charity.

GEARING UP FOR LEADFOOT FESTIVAL 2016

Leadfoot Festival is the brain child of kiwi racing legend Rod Millen, who is most well known for his success at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb where he held the record of fastest ascent for six years.

The event started out in 2011 as a private celebration for Rod’s 60th Birthday. After a roaring success and much consideration, he and his wife Shelley decided to open the event to the public.

Held at the Millen’s 150 acre ocean-front ranch in Hahei, Leadfoot is a unique mix of classic cars, vintage motorcycles, performance vehicles and motorsport legends. All attempting to clock the fastest time up the one mile long driveway specifically designed to be a perfect hill climb course. Drivers are handpicked by Rod from all over the globe, including an array of famous NZ drivers.

At the official launch of the 2016 Leadfoot Festival held in Auckland on August 13, Rod Millen announced American actor and race car driver Patrick Dempsey will attend the 2016 Leadfoot Festival. Best known for his role as Dr. Derek Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy, Dempsey owns Dempsey Racing and has competed in prestigious pro-am events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Rolex 24 at Daytona sports car race, and Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. Dempsey Racing is presently racing two Porsche 911 GT America’s in the Tudor United Sports Car Series.

“Coming off a podium finish at the 2015 24 hours of Le Man, we are delighted to have Patrick as our guest at the 2016 Leadfoot Festival” says Rod Millen. Scottish Rally driver Alister McRae has been confirmed, with more announcements to be made.

YHI is looking forward to attending in 2016 with Nitto onboard as an official Pit Paddock sponsor, and Pirelli to display a number of prestigious vehicles & range of tyres.

Spectators will be treated to a one of a kind experience, with unparalleled access to the drivers, pits and race cars, including Nitto partnered drivers ‘Mad Mike’ Whiddett and Kat Benson.

The Leadfoot Festival is scheduled for Waitangi weekend 2016 (6th and 7th February) and is expected to attract over 15,000 spectators.

The Hi-Tec Oils Trans Tasman Drift Championship consists of sixteen top Australian and New Zealand drivers battling against each other for the championship title.

Hi-Tec Drifting Australia have selected eight of their best including Achilles Radial drivers Beau Yates and Brad Tuohy. D1NZ have hand-picked eight of our most talented drifters in New Zealand, including Achilles Radial driver Andrew Redward. The series will run two rounds in Australia and two rounds in New Zealand.

We wish Andrew all the best as he heads to Australia for the first round at Winton Motor Raceway on October 10th.

Proudly supported by Nankang Tyres, Zeal Taekwon-Do Club has returned from a successful tournament at the New Zealand Nationals held in Christchurch. The team represented Counties Manukau, bringing home an impressive total of twelve medals.

Zeal Taekwon-Do’s coach Lianna McCartney prides herself on the team spirit, determination and behaviour of her students. A highlight for Lianna was one of her students being recognised by the officials during the tournament for displaying great etiquette and being very courteous to their opponents during sparring.

“The whole team were complimented on being well-mannered and respectful throughout the championship” says Lianna “this means more to me than students winning medals”

ZEAL TAEKWON-DO IMPRESS AT NZ NATIONALS Returning to Auckland with 3 Gold, 6 Silver and 3 Bronze medals, the results represent the amount of talent and skill amongst the Zeal Taekwon-Do students.
