PROGRAMTHE PERFECT MARRIAGE: GUIDED SURGERY AND SCREW RETAINED
RESTORATIONS FOR ULTIMATE AESTHETICS: A PRACTICAL ANDSYSTEMATIC APPROACH TO ANTERIOR IMPLANT CASES
Mike Meek, DDS, FAGDCourse Description: In this three hour practical approach course, Dr. Meek demonstrates a step by technique: for producing consistent anterior implant success. From day of diagnosis all the way to delivery of final restoration, this class covers it all for the restorative doctor. Seven elements make up our anterior cases and each of these will be examined in this course. Practitioners will receive step by step instruction on clinical techniques that amplify the profitability of utilizing dental implants instead of conventional dentistry. In addition, case selection criteria, treatment planning and case presentation strategy to increase compliance are shown in this “pearl packed” presentation that includes a primer on intra-oral photography for anterior aesthetic resto-rations to include both setting up a DSLR Macro rig AND handling of the files from snapping the shutter to emailing the image to your favorite lab. Apple Photos is featured and the presentation is rich in video clips to help the practitioner understand every click and adjustment made to produce knock out results with anterior cases.Learning objectives: • Planning the surgical guide • Immediate temporization day of surgery by you, the genera] practitioner • Custom impression copings with fixture level impressions for better lab outcomes • Use of screw retained restorations in the anterior (Nobel Procera ASC) instead of cement retained- Both how and why! • Setup and use of a DSLR Camera for case documentation
REDUCING FAILURES: MAINTENANCE AS THE CORNERSTONEOF IMPLANT THERAPY
Michelle Strange, RDH, BHS, MSDHCourse Description: In today’s dentistry, we are giving patients a viable option for tooth replacement, but we must remember: treatment of dental implants does not end after the surgical or restorative phases. Creating a maintenance program that is tailored to the patient and their dental implant is key. Depending on the patient’s motivation, dexterity, physical capabilities, and type of prosthetic, there can be many ways to maintain their dental implant at-home and in-office. Understanding the latest research and products that will help create long-term success for your patients is essential. Learning objectives: 1. Define peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis and the differentiating clinical factors 2. Differentiate between successful and surviving implants 3. Explain the steps of assessing dental implants after placement and during maintenance visits 4. Determine the frequency of implant maintenance 5. Discuss the importance of patient education on the long-term health of dental implants 6. List the types of implant scalers and when they are used 7. List new protocols for in-office implant maintenance 8. Describe the ways to clean each type of implant and components 9. Determine the correct products for at-home maintenance with a patient-centered focus 10. Describe factors to be considered during the treatment planning processes
WHAT ARE WE REALLY LOOKING FOR? ORAL PATHOLOGYCASES AND CONCEPTS
Sherri Lukes, RDH, MS, FAADH Course Overview: This course is an overview of oral pathologic conditions from Ms. Lukes’ own personal collection of lesion images accumulated over 36 years as a dental hygienist and a 28-year teaching career. Etiology, clinical appearance, treatment options and relevance to dental hygiene are included for each lesion/condition. The course includes both common and uncommon conditions. Most images are from cases observed while in academia, as well as those encountered during an-nual mission work in Central Mexico. Comparison images for inclusion in the differential diagnosis will also be presented and discussed.Learning Objectives:Encourages dental professionals to utilize all patient information when analyzing lesions. This course can serve as an excellent update for seasoned hygienists/dentists or a relevant review for new graduates
MIKE MEEK, DDS, FAGD Dr. Mike Meek received his bachelor of science degree in biochemistry from Trinity University, San Antonio. In 1997, he graduated from the Dental School at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. His class was the first under-graduate dental class to receive training in implant dentistry. In 2012, Dr. Meek became a fellow of the Academy of Gen-eral Dentistry (FAGD) and has made the study of implant den-
tistry and prosthetics the center of his continuing education. Dr. Meek maintains a restorative-driven implant practice with Dr. David Tasch at 38th Street Dental in Central Austin, Texas.
SHERRI LUKES, RDH, MS, FAADH Sherri Lukes has 36 years of experience in dentistry, 28 spent in academia. In 2014 she retired as associate professor from Southern Illinois University Dental Hygiene Program where she taught oral pathology, community oral health, multicultural dental hygiene and advanced periodontics clinic. Her research concentration was in oral pathology, migrant farm worker oral health, and challenges of other underserved groups, resulting
in multiple peer reviewed publications. A Pathology Fellow and approved speaker of the American Academy of Dental Hygiene, Sherri enjoys integrating her expertise from years of teaching and research into CE courses to empower hygienists in the delivery of care. Ms. Lukes is a Past President of the Illinois Dental Hygienists’ Association and a member of the American Academy of Oral Medicine. Community service projects include biannual mission trips to central Mexico, where accompanied by SIU dental hygiene students, she provides oral health care in an orphanage and remote villages. She received Community Service, Teacher of the Year, and Research Paper of the Year awards while at SIU, was named an Oral Health Champion by the IFLOSS Coalition and the Illinois Department of Public Health and is a past recipient of the Sunstar/RDH Award of Distinction.
MICHELLE STRANGE, RDH, BHS, MSDH Michelle has been a clinician in dentistry since 2000 and cur-rently is a practicing hygienist, surgical assistant, speaker, vol-unteer, educator in a dental hygiene program, lead clinical edu-cator for TePe Oral Health Care, Inc., and podcast co-host for “A Tale of Two Hygienists”. She is a self-proclaimed dental nerd and sees the dental profession as not only her forever career path but her hobby. With a Master’s in Dental Hygiene education
and a belief in lifelong learning, Michelle hopes to continue to learn and grow within the dental profession and one day see the gap bridged between medical and dental. Her experience as a hygienist began in a periodontal and implant driven office and has gained much experience with the maintenance of dental implants. Her passion is helping patients be successful at home with a goal of better oral health with a patient-centered approach.
