DIANA CAPARELLO/ NANETTEAppearing in the title role of Nanette in the West Valley Light Opera Association musicalplay of the same name, Diana is a voice student who, in her first year of community theatrehas appeared as Philia in the Phoenix production of "A Funny Thing Happened On The WayTo The Forum" and was understudy for the role of Fran in the S.J. Diana's futureplans call for a move to Los Angeles to continue her studies in the musical theatre field.

NORMA HUGHES/ LUCILLE EARL YNorma informs us that she had to go on the stage because she couldn't get a word in edgewiseat home; actually daughters Suzie and Kristy, along with husband Bob are very cooperativein helping Norma pursue her theatrical interests. With 15 years of community theatre, shehas performed with the Saratoga Drama Group, Phoenix Productions, San Jose MusicTheatre, and our own West Valley Light Opera Association where she had the lead in "On AClear Day You Can See Forever" and parts in "Gypsy" and "Applause."

  • Winnie, Betty & FloraSue & Jimmy

EUNICE WAHLTON/ WINNIEIf you are wondering who is behind those giant black eye-glasses, it is Eunice Wahlton, whoplayed the role of Tzeitel in the WVLOA pre-release of "Fiddler On The Roof" two yearsago. Having portrayed so many differing character parts from Debi in "Applause" and SallyCato in "Auntie Marne" to "Seagull" Winnie in the present production, Eunice considersthat she is indeed lucky. Her other activities include playing piano and the violin with theLos Gatos Symphony and teaching fifth grade in Cupertino.

NANCY RIAZA/ BETTYHaving appeared in community theatre for about five years, Nancy has played the parts ofMaria in "West Side Story," Rosemary in "How To Succeed In Business," Mary Turner in"Of Thee I Sing," and has sung in the choruses of "Oklahoma," "Wizard Of Oz," "Oliver,""The Emperor's New Clothes," "The Sound Of Music" and WVLOA's "The Merry Widow."Attending Branham High School, Nancy holds the position of Drama Commissioner and isconstantly trying to improve her theatrical talents, planning for a stage career. While this isher first casting in a "vamp" role, she is ready to try any part if only there is an audience inattendance.

ROBERTA VISCOVICH/ FLORAA multi-award winning dramatic actress, Roberta first appeared in a musical as Margotin the WVLOA production of "Applause" in June of 1973. She next played the starringrole in The Community Players' production of the drama "Auntie Marne." Her dramaticcredentials are too numerous to enumerate here, however Roberta has stated that "Musicaltheatre is not only a new challenge but is extremely rewarding to hear such wonderfulaudience response."

BARBARA VALENTE/ SUE SMITHIn addition to playing the part of Sue in the present musical, Barbara is well-known in thearea as our regular Choreographer; she has choreographed for other musical groups as well.

    S. JOHN SMITH/ JIMMY SMITHLocal theatregoers will remember John from his numerous appearances with this Associationas well as others in the area; most recently he played Howard Benedict in West Valley's"Applause;" previously he had principal or leading parts in our "Merry Widow," "PajamaGame," and as Ralph Rackstraw in "Pinafore." • OUR NEXT ATTRACTION ...

    PAT McCAUGHEYChoral Director

The Board of Directors has selected "OLIVER" as the third and final productionof the 1973-74 season: due to the short time allotted us in the theatre the num-ber of performances has necessarily been reduced to seven instead of the usualtwelve or thirteen. As the Association refuses to sacrifice quality or skimp withcostumes, sets or props despite being confronted with ever-increasing costs, wewill be lucky indeed to break even with this production.

We are fortunate in obtaining Mr. Joseph Glasner as play Director; the Producerwill be Mr. Sherwood Goozee, who holds a Master's degree in Drama. Sherwoodwill be assisted by Mrs. Jean Hutchins and Mr. E. J. (Gene) Pincus. With such anexperienced team "OLIVER" will undoubtedly be a hit!

Auditions will be conducted at the Saratoga Civic Theatre on January 25, 26 &27; call the office at 356-6410 or the Producer at 257=9388 for furtherparticulars.

. .. traveling troupe of West Valley Light Opera, is presently in need ofadditional male members and a female alto to complete their ensemble forfuture performances. If you are interested in auditioning or if your organizationis planning a luncheon, banquet, convention, etc., and needs entertainment atreasonable rates, please call ... BJ. Publicover,252-3658 or Marge Hand,356-7340.
