June 2019 As you do it for the least of these, you do it for Christ. (Matthew 25:40)

Social Ministry Emphasis for June. Each month the Social Ministry Committee highlights a special giving opportunity. The focus for June is to provide support for Lutheran young adults affiliated with Christ Lutheran who are in service in the U.S. or internationally, including One Collective (formerly International Teams) mission organization (http://onecollective.org / www.iteams.us) and CLC Youth Summer Mission Trips (this summer in Grand Rapids) and future ELCA Youth Gatherings (http://clcvalpo.org/for-youth/high-school / www.elca.org/YouthGathering). CLC has had young adults serving at various times with Lutheran Volunteer Corps. Currently young adults Chris and Heather Shepherd are serving with the One Collective/I-Teams organization in Turkey. One Collective is a global nonprofit that works in communities around the world and is passionate about making sure no one is invisible and has access to food, freedom, and forgiveness. O.C. brings people together to help the oppressed in order that lives and communities can be transformed. CLC has supported Chris & Heather (VU and Lutheran Deaconess graduates) for several years as they continue to serve the needs of refugees in Turkey. Chris, Heather, Moses, and Micah will be at CLC Sunday, July 14. Chris will preach during Worship Services, and during the Faith Formation hour Heather will update us about what they, with God’s help, are doing in Turkey and among refugees there. Help achieve our goal of $2000 in June, which will be combined with a budgeted amount. Use your weekly worship giving envelope and indicate “One Coll./Youth Mission” on the line marked Social Ministry with the amount you wish to give in addition to your regular giving. Thank you to members for supporting monthly social concern emphases.

Wanted: Your Photos and Stories!

As Pastor Tim and his family venture across the globe this summer, we will be taking a number of steps to stay connected.

A large wall map is mounted in the Gathering Space to track their travels. We are asking for photos and stories that you have from when you have visited any of the same places.

Germany: Berlin, Leipzig, Wittenberg, Nurnberg, Austria: Vienna Tanzania: Arusha Greece: Athens, Corinth, Delphi, Peloponnesian Peninsula

You may send the photos and stories by email to [email protected].

Paper is fine, too, in my CLC mailbox; I’ll copy them and return the original. Please attach your name, identify the location, and in a few words, tell why this place is meaningful to you. Stories about your experiences in each

place will be fun to read!

Many thanks!

Sue McPherson, 771-4328

As a lifelong Lutheran, it was an emotional and spiritual experience to see (a replica of) the actual door where Martin Luther posted his 95 theses. We were able to get the feel of the

church door as a community bulletin board, where this scholar-monk invited conversation on the stifled truths he was discovering in his studies of Scripture.

Ushers and Communion Assistants Needed

Could you serve God and the CLC community by helping occasionally with one of these necessary aspects of our worship? We are especially in need of ushers at 10:30 services, but there is room to help at early service as well. Please give your name and contact info to one of today's ushers, or to the folks at the hospitality desk, and we'll contact you. A brief special training for ushers and communion assistants--just 15 minutes--will take place after each service on June 9.
