Yesterday we took advantage of the wonderful place our school is located in and walked to the harbour to watch the Tallships sail out through the heads. We had a fabulous vantage point to watch the ships sail through the Heads. The sea breeze on the harbour reduced the temperature significantly and it was a unique experience for us all. We shared our vantage point on the harbour with a group of people from a walking group. All of them commented on our student’s excellent behaviour. Our children were commented on for their positive friendly behaviour as we walked along the waterfront at Watson’s Bay also. Our walk to and from school was spectacular. We are very spoilt and it was impossible not to be overcome with the beauty of where our school is. How lucky are we !!! This term is an extremely busy one. Today K-2 Swimming Program commences at Kincoppal and the 3- 6 Script Writing and Film Program commences. These two programs are for the duration of Term 4 and will impact heavily on Friday’s timetable. For Term 4 only we will move the Whole School Friday Assembly to Thursday afternoons at 2.45 pm. We have allocated this time as it is the least intrusive on learning time. We hope that it does not make too difficult for parents to attend. We felt with this time that parents could combine pick up on Thursdays with Assembly. Teachers will inform parents when their class is presenting at Assembly this term. On Monday we sent home a 2014 Planning Sheet asking you to inform us if you are either returning to school in 2014 or not. We are beginning to plan 2014 and the information these sheets supply is crucial for 2014 class organization. They are due back on Monday at the latest. Thanking you in advance for your cooperation. This term please keep an eye on the Term calendar as we will be posting as many dates as possible on so that you can plan ahead. Overview of Mandarin Program (Term 4, 2013)

Based on Chinese k-10 Syllabus by NSW Board of Studies and the Connected Outcome Groups

(COGs) by the Language Unit, Curriculum k-12 Directorate, NSW Department of Education and

Training, the Mandarin Program for term 4, 2013 continues to focus on Human Society and Its

Environment, aiming to help students develop the knowledge, understanding and the listening,

reading, speaking and writing skills necessary for effective interaction in Chinese (Using Language),

explore the nature of languages as systems by making comparisons between Chinese and English,

leading to an appreciation of the correct application of linguistic structures and vocabulary (Making

Linguistic Connections) and develop knowledge of the culture of Chinese-speaking communities and

an understanding of the interdependence of language and culture, thereby encouraging reflection on

their own cultural heritage.

Stage 1 (including Early Stage 1) sets the basis for the further development of knowledge,

understanding and skills in Chinese in subsequent stages.

ES1 (Kindergarten) student will

continue to learn about the knowledge of Chinese language, Pinyin (initials and finals,

tones), through listening and speaking practice;

continue to learn to write pinyin and recognize some simple characters;

continue to learn about basic numbers up to 20;

continue to learn about basic foods, fruits and drinks, and the typical ones for Chinese diet;

continue to learn about some classroom objects, places and school routines in Chinese;

learn about simple descriptions and spoken Chinese;

learn about some animals on the farm ( animals grow and change, baby animals);

learn about simple nouns such as seasons, weather, time, furniture, and household appliance;

learn about simple good manners in Chinese;

learn about Chinese chess and games;

learn about simple Chinese culture

S1 (Year 1 and Year 2) student will

continue to learn about the knowledge of Chinese language, pinyin and character, through

listening and speaking practice;

continue to learn to write pinyin and recognize or write simple characters;

continue to learn about basic numbers up to 99;

continue to learn about basic foods, fruits and drinks, and the typical ones for Chinese diet;

continue to learn about classroom objects, places and school routines in Chinese;

learn about some descriptions and spoken Chinese;

learn about some nouns such as seasons, weather, time, furniture, and household appliance;

continue to learn about classroom objects, places and school routines in Chinese;

continue to learn about useful descriptions and spoken Chinese;

learn about more animals on the farm ( animals grow and change, baby animals);

learn about some nouns such as seasons, weather, time, furniture, and household appliance;

learn about more good manners in Chinese;

learn about Chinese chess and games;

learn about more Chinese culture

Stage 3 sets the basis for the further development of knowledge, understanding and skills in Chinese

in subsequent stages. (Stage 1-2 be incorporated into the teaching and learning programs for students

commencing their language study in Stage 3)

S3 (Year 5 and Year 6) student will

continue to learn about the knowledge of Chinese language as a system, pinyin and

character, setting a sound base for their future learning;

be more familiar with pinyin and feel more confident to write characters using writing rules;

continue to learn about basic numbers up to 10000;

continue to learn about more basic foods, fruits and drinks, and the typical ones for Chinese

diet;

continue to learn about and be more familiar with classroom objects, places and school

routines in Chinese language;

learn about more useful descriptions and good manners and use spoken Chinese more

confidently;

learn about more animals on the farm ( animals grow and change, baby animals), fish and

insects;

learn about healthy choices;

learn about other common nouns such as seasons, weather, time, furniture, and household

appliance;

learn about Chinese chess and games;

learn about and understand more Chinese culture

It’s the Annual General Meeting of the School P & C

Next Tuesday

7.30pm 15 October 2013

Hi Everyone

Its that time of year for your current P & C Executive to say goodbye.

Next week the current members are required to step down.

They step down to allow for new parents to be elected, to guide the School for 2014.

As you can see our school is growing fast, and many new facilities are being provided for our children. These

things do not happen without parent input.

Next Tuesday we need you to step up, to take over the reins for 2014. It is time that you did. Please play your

part and do not leave it to others.

Involvement in the P & C is worthy investment of your time, and your chance to influence the school program,

its goings-on; and to guide its future.

From the environment; to events; to fun activities; to providing educational support and assistance to staff and students; and providing for our school’s growth and maturity year after year, the P & C is the place to do it.

In particular, we need representation from parents in Years K, 1 and 2, those of you who have been here 1,2 or

3 years, and have yet to participate. It’s your turn to put in for your children.

Particular roles that have yet to be nominated for are the President; Secretary and the portfolio of Building and

Education.

There are also Committee roles, for parents who only have time to support the executive members on the P &

C, also available. A committee or portfolio role is perfect for parents interested in a particular facet of the

school.

The P & C meets once a term only.
