Community Assessment Survey We Need Staff Input!

The Community Needs Assessment is a very important part of our agency program planning process. We need as many staff, parents and community partners to an-swer these questions as possible. The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete. It asks about needs and strengths in the community and what types of Head Start and Early Head Start services are most needed by families.

If you have not yet answered the survey, please click one of the links below (English or Spanish) and give us your input.

Thank you!

After almost 20 years, the MO was due for a facelift. The recent changes at the main office are part of the ongoing work to create a trauma-informed care culture in our agency.

The five core principles are safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment.

The Main office changes are specific to the principle of safety which includes both physical and emotional safety. A few of the ways this is trauma-informed:

It’s welcoming – every person receives eye contact and a warm greeting as they enter the building.

It’s inviting - a clean and comfortable environment where families can get a sense of what school will be like as the play area has toys and playthings that will be found in classrooms.

It is safer – children and their caregivers can now sit and play together while waiting for their enrollment inter-views. People check in at the desk so it is known who is in the building, and that they get to where they need to go.

There are better work areas– the computer lab is more comfortable for applicants and current staff. The mail cubbies have been moved to make it safer for staff and children, removing the trip hazards and making

it less cluttered and more welcoming and inviting too.

Thanks to everyone who works on committees, responds to requests for input for committees and who work to im-plement the changes as we move towards our goal to create a culture of trauma-informed care at SOCFC.

The MO, it’s more than just a pretty place!!!

Electrical Safety Issues

We recently had a piece of equipment, that was stored for a while in a center with the cord wrapped around it, short out and arc flash when plugged in. The bend in the cord, at the unit, wore out and exposed the wires.

Please inspect all equipment that has been stored before using, to ensure the electrical cords are in good shape. They should not be cracked, split, hard and brittle, kinked, melted, burned, frayed or discolored. The plug must be secure to the wire, not loose. The wires in the cord must not be exposed.

If it just doesn’t look good, it probably isn’t. Contact Facilities Management.

Kudos to Crater High School Volunteers

A big thank you to our two high school volunteers from Crater High School, who created and donated a new planter box for our center, as part of their classroom project at their school, and then planted with the students. We love our volunteers!
