Hello and how was your week? Our church auxiliary members had a Mother’s Day Dinner at Fat Patty’s in Huntington on May 15. Fat Patty’s catered our din- ner in their banquet room. Turkey, ham and vegetables were served as well as a salad bar. My friend Mary Whitmore has been in Florida for a week to visit her daughter (Like) and her five children & husband. It was a surprise to Julie Goodrich but not the rest of her family. Her first day she got sunburned out on the pontoon. She had a wonderful time. Good for you Mary. Glad you had fun. Happy belated birthday to Kimmie Bowman and Marcella Thompson on May 15. Hope you both had a wonderful day. Happy Anniversary to Sherman & Mila Manis on May 15. Many more years to you two. Happy Birthday to Daisy Pennington of Buffalo Rd. on May 10. Happy birthday sweet lady. Happy Cake Day to Janet Brumfield Maynard of Ceredo Manor on May 18. Have a lovely day Janet. She will be 85. May 17 will be the luncheon day for the 1959 Buffalo High School graduates and friends. Come to Ponderosa in South Point at 11:15 a.m. Would love to have you. Mother’s Day was Sunday May 14. Happy Mom’s Day to each of you. Happy Mom’s Day to my mom in heaven, Kathleen Ward. She’s been gone 31 years and I think of her every day. Loved her so much, but she’s happy in heaven with her three sons: Jim, Bill and Dick. In the darkest days when I’m feeling degraded, unloved and unworthy – I remember whose daughter I am, and I straighten my crown. (Don’t know who wrote this but I like it). Hello Helen Marck in Denver. Hope you’re doing alright and Happy Mother’s Day to you. Have someone write me a letter. Would love to hear from you. Helen is formerly from Kenova and has several friends here she visits in the summer. She’s in her 80’s so she doesn’t visit as much. Her family also lives in Denver. Ran into Joan Chambers at the KYOVA Mall last week. You can tell she likes her retirement from the Wayne County BOE. I run into her often. Way to go Joan. Glad you’re healthy and can enjoy your life. My niece Kathy Ward Black and I had traveled to KYOVA Mall together. We shopped at Elder Beerman. I couldn’t go to any other stores. My knees were killing me. Kathy also has had her daughter Heather and granddaughter visiting last week from Ohio. I’m sure they had a wonderful fun get together. Heather and her daughter also visited her grandpa Mr. Conway on German Ridge Road. They roamed the old farmland for an exciting day remembering when she was young and lived on German Ridge. I’ve been trying to get out some summer clothes. The only thing I don’t like about summer clothing is you have to iron it. Now I know you’re saying, “you don’t have to iron,” but I do. Even though it looks like you’ve slept in it by the time you get to where you’re going. We’re having a Get Well Soon and Thinking of You card shower for some of our church members who are very ill at this time: Mr. Charles Bailey, Room 2024 Cornerstone Hospital, 2900 First Avenue, Huntington, WV, 25702; Mr. Dennis Reed, Room 131, Health South, 6900 W. Country Club Drive, Huntington, WV, 25705; Lucille Blankenship, who fell and cracked some ribs and is in terrible pain. She also recently lost her husband of East Pea Ridge in Huntington. The 19th Annual Wayne County Kids Day was held Wednesday of last week at Wayne High School. My great-granddaughter Summer got to attend from her day care class in Westmoreland. She was excited, but her mom said it was not a very organized day. Little ones stood in line forever. Not enough things to do. Jumpies were too few and some only got to jump for a few minutes. Some didn’t get to at all. Their shirts were too big. More fun things need to be available. Too many children at one time. Be sure to read Mr. Michael Hupp, managing editor of the Wayne County News column each week. He is trying to keep up with what’s happening in Wayne Co. and the surround- ing areas – like drug needles found in our parks where children play. The Wayne County Board of Education is under his eye as well. Thanks, Mr. Hupp for staying on these things we need to know. A big thank you to cousin Don Bias for taking his friend Cora Dixon and I to lunch/dinner on Friday evening May 12 at Cheddar’s in Ashland for a Mother’s Day treat. He had invited his sister-in-law Weezie Starr, but she had other plans. All thought the weather was “yucky”. We had to dodge the rain. We enjoyed our time together. He is a sweet and caring person. I also attended a short end-of-the-year program on Friday at my great-grandson’s school where the kindergarten and 1st grade classes held a program for parents and friends to attend. It was called, “Take me out to the farm.” It was held at the Charles Russell Elementary School. Bentley was so excited to see his daddy Channing. His “Bebe” Tammy Keyser and I attended as well as several of his family from the other side. He will attend 1st grade in the fall. Well it looked like several people and children attended the grand opening tour of the $20 million-plus grade school for Ceredo-Kenova students last week. What a school! The classrooms are big enough to hold two of our regular classrooms. And to think other schools in Wayne County need classrooms fixed, roofs fixed and floors fixed. Will other schools ever get fixed or get new schools. With that amount of debt I doubt it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for the new school. But you’ve heard the old saying, “Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket. What if you fall?” I had a wonderful Mother’s Day at my daughter Carla’s home on Sunday after church. Her husband David cooked hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill. As you know the weather was beautiful at 86 degrees and sunshine. Carla and David along with daugh- ters Samantha and Summer, who are both mother’s to Gavin and Karleigh. Tammy and great-granddaughter Chloe; Kenny and Tammi (Ball) Adkins and her daughter Tracy; and Sherri (Ball) and I attended. We really enjoyed the food and the day. It was better than going out to eat when you can spend the day with family. I loved it. The little ones got into a water fight with water from the pool. Cold!!! But they had fun. The Ceredo Baptist Church located at 417 Main Street will have a revival service from May 22 to the 26 with Rev. Joe Nelson. They would love to have everyone attend. Special singers every night at 7 p.m. Mon: Altizer Choir; Tues: Kellogg Church of God Choir; Wed: Old Country Gospel; Thur: New Testament Baptist Church; and Fri: Faith Freewill Church. Come out and receive your blessing. Happy Anniversary to Dallas and Janet (Brumfield) Maynard on May 22, which will be their 65th. Wow you two! Happy Birthday to Nellie Ferguson of Kenova on May 22. Enjoy your day Nellie. Bill and Betty Hardwick will celebrate their 62nd anniversary on May 24. Happy another year to you two. Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A LIFE-AFFIRMING FRAMEWORK Funerals perform the very important function of providing family members and friends of the deceased with an avenue of expression and a coping mechanism for their grief and bereavement. e ceremonial ritual may not relieve the pain of grief, nor even necessarily relieve the sense of loss, emptiness, loneliness, and despair, but it does provide a framework of social support that is life-affirming. Funerals create a structure that shows the bereaved a way of bringing the past relationship with the deceased to a close and beginning a transition to the future. Ideally, funerals can provide comfort and strong psychological support to those left behind by sanctifying the life and relationships of the person who has passed on. 342611 Something To Think About MORRIS FUNERAL HOME 1345 Rt. 152, Wayne, WV 304-272-5171 www.morrisfuneralhome.com D.C. Hello and how was your week? Our church auxiliary members had a Mother’s Day Dinner at

Fat Patty’s in Huntington on May 15. Fat Patty’s catered our din-ner in their banquet room.

He is trying to keep up with what’s happening in Wayne Co. and the surround-ing areas – like drug needles found in our parks where children play.

What if you fall?”

I had a wonderful Mother’s Day at my daughter Carla’s home on Sunday after church. Her husband David cooked hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill. As you know the weather was beautiful at 86 degrees and sunshine. Carla and David along with daugh-ters Samantha and Summer, who are both mother’s to Gavin and Karleigh.

A LIFE-AFFIRMING FRAMEWORKFunerals perform the very important function of providing family membersand friends of the deceased with an avenue of expression and a copingmechanism for their grief and bereavement. The ceremonial ritual maynot relieve the pain of grief, nor even necessarily relieve the sense of loss, emptiness, loneliness, and despair, but it does provide a framework of socialsupport that is life-affirming. Funerals create a structure that shows thebereaved a way of bringing the past relationship with the deceased to a closeand beginning a transition to the future. Ideally, funerals can provide comfortand strong psychological support to those left behind by sanctifying the lifeand relationships of the person who has passed on.
