The Basics• Two categories: Bot vs. Bot and Bot Gallery

• You don’t need to attend the conference to compete

• There’s no entry fee for the competition• Submissions due November 1st• To keep it fair, any bot you build must be new for this competition

Technical Requirements• You don’t need to code to compete! If you use the Watson Conversation service, we’ll connect directly to your workspace. All that we’ll need from you when you submit is the .json export of your workspace.

• All bots should be able to handle this basic logic: if no input text is sent, assume it is the beginning of a conversation and send back a greeting message; if no conversation_id is sent, create a new one and use this to keep track of the session.

Technical Requirements• More advanced bots should provide an endpoint that uses a simplified version of the MessageRequest object used by the Conversation service. While you are free to include as many fields as you would like, these are the ones we’ll care about:

Bot vs. Bot• Build a bot to have a conversation with another bot. A panel of judges will be rapidly choosing winners in a head-to-head, tournament-style display.

• This is part of the conference’s evening entertainment. Don’t be afraid your bot will fail, just make sure it does it with style.

• All bots will thoroughly tested before the event. Please keep your conversations PG-13.

Bot Gallery


• Build a bot to do anything. Conference attendees will interact with the bots throughout the day. Prizes will be awarded based on attendee votes.

• All bots will be provided with an SMS interface. Make sure your bot follows the same endpoint guidelines listed above.

• When you submit your bot, we will ask for a bot name, short description, and either a .json configuration file (for bots built solely with Conversation) or endpoint url. It is up to you to make sure that your bot is properly functioning the day of the event (November 9th).
