High School history by purchasing a custom laser-engraved brick to be placed in the Interact Plaza (near the bus pickup area). Leave a lasting tribute to a student, alumnus, sports team, club or teacher. Recognize a special achievement, occasion or loved one. Staff, students, sports/clubs, alumni, and businesses can purchase the paver for just $25 until May 31, 2012. Proceeds from the sale will go towards Interact's community service projects. FBLA Students Going to State On February 4, the Washington Chapter of the Future
Business Leaders of America attended the FBLA Regional Competition at Centennial High School in Peoria. All 29 members that competed did an amazing job and represented themselves and Washington impressively. The following students placed in the top three in their events: Angel Fuentes, Brandon Ruth, Josh Grant, Johnny Ruvalcaba, Marissa Melgar, Andriy Yarema, Jaaziel Herrera, Chris Garza Esquivel, Alexis Medina, and Sadaf Aayar.
Thirty FBLA members will travel to Tucson for the Arizona FBLA State Leadership Conference April 3-5 seeking to qualify for the National Conference in San Antonio, Texas. Good luck, Rams!
WHS DECA Students Win Medals On January 12, Washington’s DECA students competed
in the Regional Metro Conference at Grand Canyon University. Medal winners at that conference were: Peter Pohorily. Fito Garcia Rascon, Kylia Wilson, Melanie Frazier, Olivia Ligons, PJ Vargas, Josh Saucedo, Liliana Ramirez, Francisca Vasquez, Angel Salazar, Kadija Kuykendall, Andrew Kyaluzi, Juan Minjarez, Dominique Blackwater, John Salzman, Johan Garfias, Junior Aguilar, Salvador Saenz, Steven Santiago, and Nestor Dominguez.
Students participated in the State DECA Competition at the Phoenix Convention Center on March 5-6. Three Washington students won role play medals at that event: Liliana Ramirez, Angel Fuentes, and Michael Cervantez.
Speech and Debate Team Score Big Washington High School students brought back many
medals from the Arizona Speech and Debate Tournament. Destiny Leyvas won 1st place and Dominic Juarez won 2nd place in the poetry category. Armando Grijalva took 2nd place in prose. Dominic Juarez received 1st and Elise Southway received 2nd place in the humor category. Shae-Lynn Harmon placed 3rd in Dramatic Interpretation. Destiny Leyvas & Alanna Hopka placed 6th in duo acting. Mike Cervantez and Zack Dodd teamed up for 2nd in duo interpretation.
WHS Green Team Honored by Phoenix Suns and APS
Washington’s Green Team has been improving the recycling program on campus and reducing the amount of trash that is added to the city’s landfill. The students’ efforts were recognized by APS and the Phoenix Suns at a recent home game.
