The Mineral Engineering Conference MEC2016 was held on September 25-28, 2016 in Hotel & Medi-SPA Bialy Kamien in Swieradow-Zdroj, Lower Silesia, Poland. MEC2016 was a united meeting of three former conferences that is XII International Conference on Non-Ferrous Ore Processing, XXI International Conference of Mineral Processing and LIII Symposium of Physicochemical Problems of Mineral Processing. MEC2016 was organized by the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in cooperation with AGH University of Science and Technology, Silesian University of Technology, Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals, KGHM Cuprum Research & Development Centre and KGHM Polska Miedz S.A. The general chairman of MEC2016 was Prof. Jan Drzymala from the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology. The media partner of MEC2016 was MEI online, that is Minerals Engineering International: the largest source of information on mineral processing & extractive metallurgy on the net. The main sponsorship was provided by KGHM Polska Miedz S.A. There were 112 registered participant of MEC2016 from 14 countries. It is planned that the proceedings of MEC2017 will be also published there. It should be noticed that the papers presented at the conference, when published in the E3S Web of Conferences journal, cannot be considered, as it was practiced before, by such Polish journals as Archives of Mining, Inzynieria Mineralna, Physicochemical Problems of Mineral Processing, Cuprum etc. The conference proceedings are available free of charge on the journal website at http://www.e3s- conferences.org/articles/e3sconf/abs/2016/03/contents/contents.html. There were many useful and practical presentations during the conference. They covered the areas of applied mineralogy, automation and control of processes, minerallurgical separations (magnetic, electric, gravity separations and flotation, coagulation, agglomeration, comminution, screening, dewatering, drying, sampling etc.), hydro- and biohydrometallurgy, modification of minerals properties, recycling, mineral wastes, and environmental aspects of mineral processing. The full list of presentations is published at http://mec2016.pwr.edu.pl/index.php/en/programme. Well received were all three plenary lectures. Lecture 1: Kazimierz Malysa, On importance of thin liquid films in the colliding bubble attachment to solid surfaces of different hydrophobicity - a review Lecture 2: Andrzej Wieniewski and Bozena Skorupska, Technology of Polish copper ore beneficiation – perspectives from the past experience Lecture 3: Tomasz Chmielewski et al., Chloride leaching of silver and lead from a solid residue after atmospheric leaching of flotation copper concentrates During the conference we celebrated 70 th birthday of Professor Kazimierz Malysa and 67 th birthday of Professor Jan Drzymala. The photographs below prove that the celebration was very cordial. Right pic.: from the left: B. Kuzba (KGHM Polska Miedz S.A.), P. Pazik and A. Barczak (Organizing Committee), and D. (Poland), Research on choice of xanthates blend dedicated to processing technology at KGHM Polska Miedz S.A. concentrators ; Hasan Ali Taner from Selcuk University (Turkey), Control of clay minerals effect in flotation. A review ; Hamdy Abdel- Ghafar from Central Metallurgical Research and Development Institute (Egipt), Recovery of sodium hydroxide from industrial wastewater of aluminum surface treatment while for the best poster: Semsettin Ulutas from Suleyman Demirel University (Turkey), Phonolite: A felspar substitute for ceramic industry and Katarzyna Wejman from Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (Poland), Studies of extractive removal of silver(I) from chloride solutions . A special award of the MEC2016 Chairmen went to Ece Ferizoglu for presentation Solvent extraction of scandium from lateritic nickel-cobalt ores using organic reagents . The conference MEC2016 offered scientific and cultural meetings. The evening meetings were: welcome cocktail, culture evening and official banquet. During banquet the Klassik Modern trio: Vitalina Samostrokov (piano), Maciej Maciejewski (violin), Roman Samostrokov (cello) played pleasant music of baroque and popular as well as film music of Astor Piazzola, Hans Neumaier, Joahim Quantz, James Newton Howard, John Shmidt and Wojciech Kilar.
