Dear Parents and Friends, It’s been a very productive week with the Parents and Friends Association (PFA) AGM held on Monday morning and our annual Welcome BBQ/Information evening held on Tuesday night. The PFA meeting was well attended and all positions were filled. Congratulations to our new Committee: Fiona Hepburn (President), Chris Keenan (Vice President), Liz Melrose (Vice President), Vanessa Thompson (Secretary - minutes), Nicole Jones (Secretary—Communication) and Lauren Saunders (Treasurer). I am looking forward to working with this enthusiastic and focussed group who will work together to ensure the needs of the children of Glenrowan Primary School are met. Whilst the committee will steer school events and fundraisers, we are confident that the wider school community will support and assist all initia- tives. If ALL parents are on board then together we can make significant improvements and opportunities for our children. A big Thankyou to our outgoing PFA team (Mel Gillies, Liz Melrose, Christine Zabilowicz for their wonderful fundraising and school events over recent years. The welcome BBQ was both informative and fun. Thank you to our presenters (Lauren—Child First and Ross—Blue Earth) for also attending the evening. I hope you found the class information sessions useful. A strong message from all the classroom teachers was the importance of regular communication between teacher and parents. Another message included how parents can help at home, particularly with reading. Finishing the night off with Blue Earth sessions has everyone leaving with a smile (and tired legs!) The Welcome BBQ is a great school event which helps to build a sense of “community.” Thank you to every- one who could attend. A special Thank you to the Hepburn Family for running the BBQ. Our next school community event is the swimming carnival on Feb 26th. All parents are warmly invited to attend and we welcome your help to assist with the events. A feature of our swimming sports has been the tremendous support from parents—I’m once again encouraging ALL parents to come and join us on the day. We always need helpers to hand out 1st, 2nd and 3rd place counters as the children complete each event. The children enjoy the day with parents cheering, so please be “vocal” and help celebrate their participation. the needs of the children of Glenrowan Primary School are met. Whilst the committee will steer school

events and fundraisers, we are confident that the wider school community will support and assist all initia-

A strong message from all the classroom teachers was the importance of regular communication between

teacher and parents. Another message included how parents can help at home, particularly with reading.

Finishing the night off with Blue Earth sessions has everyone leaving with a smile (and tired legs!) The

Welcome BBQ is a great school event which helps to build a sense of “community.” Thank you to every-

On Thursday 14th March 2019 we are holding the School Council Annual General Meeting followed by our

monthly meeting for March. At this meeting we form the new school council and elect office bearers for the

forthcoming year.

Glenrowan Primary School council is made up of a maximum of 12 members (7 parents, 4 staff and 1 communi-

From the Kitchen

Red Hot Chefs this week

Year 1/2 Exton – Sam Briggs for such enthusiasm to try new foods.

Year 4/5 Anania – Freya Chant for helping others & using such lovely

manners.

Year F/1 Clark – Henry Saunders for such a positive attitude towards

trying and eating new foods. (absent for photo)

It was another busy day in the kitchen last week. It has been so

wonderful having a full complement of volunteers for each class.

Please remember to let the office know your availability, particu-

larly if there are changes. Kitchen sessions will be held on Friday again this week. Please be mindful that if your child

has cooking before morning snack or lunch, they are probably going to need less food.

The students have been enjoying going out into the garden and harvesting corn, zucchinis, basil and tomatoes from

the wicking beds to use in their cooking sessions.

Year 3/4 Holmes/Duncombe made delicious Corn Fritters, Crispy Zucchini Fritters, luscious Peach and Cinnamon

Cakes, and lots of Basil Pesto. The children enjoyed the fritters and were able to discuss the textures and flavours very

thoughtfully. Some students thought they would not like the Zucchini Fritters, and were surprised to discover that

they actually loved them!! All students bravely tried some new foods, and there were no complaints.

The little peach cakes, which were sprinkled with cinnamon sugar looked very pretty, were also very popular with all.

The pesto group worked hard with their pestles and mortars to produce one big jar of precious Basil Pesto. This will

be used in future cooking sessions.

The year 6 class menu was also based on vegetables and fruit that are currently in season: Spicy Zucchini Fritters,

Crispy Corn Fritters, Peach and Ricotta Pancakes, and refreshing Peach and Passionfruit Sorbet. The fritters were crisp

on the outside, and beautiful and soft and spongy on the inside. It was amazing how much liquid was able to be

squeezed out of the zucchini; this is what helps to make the fritters crispy.

I am planning to send recipes home with the students this week.

A big thankyou to Dot Chapman, who generously brought in a box of perfect yellow fleshed nectarines to share with

the year 6 class. Dot has continued to be a wonderful tireless worker for our school. As well as helping out in the

kitchen regularly, she quietly goes about a lot of gardening jobs on the weekends and after hours. Thankyou Dot, we

really do appreciate your dedication, knowledge and the time you generously give.
