Dear Parents and Caregivers,

The welfare of our community is important and we are committed to working together to ensure the wellbeing of our students, staff and

Bush Dance

Last week I had the honour to meet Mr Greg Edwards the principal from Ivanhoe Central School. It is hard to believe how remote this town is. They are 843km away from TWPS. There is 27 students K - 12. The town has suffered greatly from the drought. The main source of income is from sheep farming. We are looking forward to raising some money for this great town via “Drought Angels”.

Drought Angels assist farming families affected by natural disasters. They sup-port by providing stock feed, local produce vouchers from within the communi-ties, moral support through personal face to face or phone contact and referrals

to other support networks as needed.

Please come along to the Bush Dance 21 March. It is going to be a fabulous

night with socialising, dancing, pizza and prizes. Please purchase your tickets via Flexischools and support a great cause.

Morning play and transition to class

In the mornings there is a teacher on duty at 8.30am. There are three places to play: library, oval or quadrangle. A variety of spaces ensures we accommodate all student needs. It is now week 7 and we request that parents start to move

away from morning lines allowing students to become independent. Our amaz-ing staff will ensure a great start to your child’s day.

Matilda

This week the Year 5 and 6 students attended Pennant Hills High School musi-cal – Matilda. It was great to support the students from TWPS who starred in the production. Many of us also spotted ex-students! TWPS is proud of our local

high school, congratulations on a wonderful performance.

Have a great week,

Zone Swimming

With amazing commitment and incredible talent we are proud once again of the way our students both compete and represent our school at significant

sporting events. Thank you to all students who participated and gave 100% in the Zone swimming carnival with Mrs Part and Mrs Singh as managers.

Outstanding Student achievements:

Congratulations to all swimmers who recently competed at Beecroft Zone. You all did a wonderful job representing yourselves and TWPS. Further con-gratulations to Caitlin Kim who will be representing at Sydney North on Friday

27 March for 50m freestyle and 50m breastroke. We wish her well in these events. – Mrs Part.

Wakakirri & Gumnut News

Another amazing day, witnessing the talent of our Wakakirri and Gumnut stu-dents. We have now auditioned First Nations Dancers, Water Dancers, Star Dancers and Greta for Waka. Gumnut students are participating in drama games and preparing their audition speech.

Brook is our main character in Waka and will be in every scene. This may be played by a male or female human but needs to be a strong actor and dancer. You may choose to act or dance to this music.

Here is a link for Brook … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hY1w_c7nO4

Red Rebels will be dancing to Bad Guy by Billie Eilish but the link shows you the type of moves

involved.

Check out the Wakakirri Window on the Admin Block for character groups. Some characters will be required to bring jazz shoes or slippers, or audition in bare feet.

Dragons & First Nations = bare feet

Water & Stars = any form of dance shoe

Auditions will continue next Wednesday 18 March. Wakakirri at 1:25pm and Gumnut at 2:15pm. We still need some parent assistance to help with crowd control and supervising students in small groups.

Audition scripts for Gumnut are on the Red Letter Box in the library. Students may also leave

notes for me there. Feel free to contact me via email with any questions.

School Banking News

We have had a few queries as to how to get involved in the School Banking program. Getting involved in School Banking is easy!

All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsav-er account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:

1. Online

Visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.

2. In branch

Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, a driver’s li-

cence and birth certificate.

Page 6: The Warami - thornleigw-p.schools.nsw.gov.au · ties, moral support through personal face to face or phone contact and referrals to other support networks as needed. Please come along

If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on Thursday using their Dol-larmites deposit wallet. If you do not have a deposit book we can provide one. Your child can

bring their first deposit in with details of Account name, BSB and account number (in a snaplock bag or similar) and we will give them a student number and a deposit book.

School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about

money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.

School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribu-tion which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year.

If you would like to know more about School Banking, please visit www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking or email your Coordinators at [email protected].

From the Community

Thornleigh Thunder soccer still look-ing for girls aged 8-13 to play this

year. The club is looking for girls aged 8-13 to play in the girls

only soccer competition this year. They play Sunday mornings and early afternoon.

The competition is heaps of fun and a great way to build character and team spirit. There are already a number of girls from the school playing so sure to find friends in the team. If interested please get in touch with George Mokdsi (0403 871 543 or [email protected]). We need to finalise teams

soon!

Are you over 35 male looking to have a fun year playing soccer? Thornleigh Thunder Soccer club is looking for male soccer players who are 35 or over as of 1 Jan 2020.

The club caters for all levels of experience and ages.

We thought there would be a few dads in the TWPS community who would be interested in playing this year and have not registered to play. A great way to get active, socialise and connect with others

in the community. If that is you please get in touch with George Mokdsi (0403 871 543 or [email protected]). We need to finalise teams soon!
