There is a saying I have heard that goes something like this:
I can live in a garage, but that doesn’t make me a car. I can go to church on Sunday, but that doesn’t make me a Christian.
Worship is an integral part of our faith. It is the place we come to honor and praise God, and to be refreshed by God’s spo-ken and living Word. Yet, if that is all we do with our faith, does it make us a Christian?
My answer is Yes and No. You are prob-ably thinking – “Huh?”
Faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior I would say is the basic under-standing of being a Christian. So when we profess that on a Sunday morning with the creed, and we listen to the Word spoken, and we partake of the sacra-ment, yes we are saying we are Christian because of what we believe.
Yet, if what happens on Sunday morning when we park our derriere’s in the pew does not make a difference the rest of that day, the rest of the week, the rest of our life, can we really say we are a

Christian? It’s one of those things that makes one go, “Hmmmmm?!”
To me, it is like having this fan-tastic car that sits in the gar-age but is never used. Yes, it is still a Bentley, or Rolls Royce, or – plop the name of your preferred luxury car in here – but it is not living out it’s purpose. It is a nice garage or-nament, but it is not the vehi-cle it was made to be.
Same with our being a Chris-tian. We have the belief in Je-sus, we go to church, but if we are not living out our faith, we become great pew ornaments. Faith in Jesus is something that is to be lived out on a daily basis. Christ breathes his love into us on Sunday, and refuels us to go out in love. Christ gives us what is needed to get our faith engines running to go out and be Christians in word and ACTION.
Monthly Offering needed to meet Budget
$ 9,833.00
Sept. Collection $ 12,480.36
Sept. Difference $ 2,647.36
YTD Difference $ -17,035.64
Please note that the above reflects our regular giving. There is money in our savings which we are using to supple-ment our expenses. We are blessed to have money in our account, but our giving en-sures we are able to move for-ward in ministry. Your gifts make a difference to God’s ministry at St. James. Please consider an extra offering to help close the gap.

Tours, Concert and Hymn Sing
at Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, NJ
Sunday, October 14, 1:00 pm Tours
3:00 pm - Concert
Music will be presented by organist
Scott J. Breiner
You are invited to a Thrivent Financial Action Team event hosted by Wayne and Mindy Grant. Be a part of history as we raise funds to help restore the Boardwalk Hall organ to playing capacity. You’ll tour the organ by lit-erally walking through the instrument followed by a con-cert and hymn sing.
Southern New Jersey can lay claim to holding one of the rarest musical treasures in the world. Within an hour’s drive from most southern NJ counties and sheltered with-in the historic Boardwalk Hall exists the enormous musi-cal treasure, the Midmer-Losh Pipe Organ, which was then and is still today the largest pipe organ in the world.
Over the years, neglect and nature have taken their toll on this wonderful instrument. The Historic Organs Resto-ration Committee is in the midst of a $16 million project to restore the organ.
The event is open to everyone.
Ticket price is $20 per person in advance through October 1, 2018.
Tickets are available by contacting Mindy Grant at 609-567-6007 or [email protected]
We will be discussing the book - A Story Worth Sharing: Exploring Evangelism, edited by Kelly Fryer. (She wrote Reclaiming the L Word which we studied last fall.) Various persons look at what it means to share the story of God’s Love which came down in Jesus Christ. As Fryer writes - “Our salvation is a call! And, as we answer it, our very lives become a testi-mony to the free gift of God’s amazing grace and the might power of God’s Spirit at work within us.” The writers lead us in dis-covering how living and telling the story of God’s love can be a natural part of our life.
