President’s Message

Dear Fellow Trapshooters,

I would like to welcome you to the VTA shoots for 2015. I’m excited to announce additional sponsorships for our state shoot. Tweed’s Locksmith of Portsmouth, VA is providing $2000 added money in four events at the state shoot: the Event 2 purse will have $500 in added money, the Event 5 purse will have $500 in added money, the Event 7 jackpot purse will have $500 added money and the Event 9 total 200 Lewis will have $500 added money; in all cases, you must enter the option to be eligible to receive any of the additional moneys. Silver Seitz is providing $1000 to enhance the Event 11 jackpot purse; again you must be entered in the jackpot purse to be eligible. There will also be a President’s Purse handicap added money of $1000 to the outright best score in the Handicap Championship on Sunday.

On Friday after the conclusion of Event 8, we will have the second Virginia Trapshooting Association Side by Side Championship - 50 non-registered 16 yard targets. All ATA rules will apply except all targets must be shot with a side by side shotgun (12 gauge or smaller). We will award trophies for the first, second and third place scores; ties will be shot off until a winner is determined. Get those Parkers, LC Smiths and Model 21s out of the safe and have some fun, compete in this event, and claim the championship trophy.

I encourage all of you to support your local ATA clubs; they are the backbone of our sport and a great place to introduce your friends to ATA shoot-ing.

I’m pleased to announce the induction of Blair Surber into the Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame. I have worked with and competed with Blair for many years and he will make a fine addition to the Hall of Fame.

I would like to recognize the 2015 VTA Board of Directors for all of their hard work in promoting and supporting trapshooting in Virginia. Without their continued efforts and those of many others at your local clubs, we could not continue to grow and provide the sport and fellowship we all enjoy.

Good shooting to all,Mike JeterPresident, Virginia Trapshooting Association

Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame, Inc.

Officer and Directors: President: Andrea Smith Vice President: Alan Corey Treasurer: Bob Igou Secretary: Audrey Sharp Directors: Dallas Berry, Lucien Charette, Gary Holderman and Keith Corey

The Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame, Inc. is a seperate non-profitorganization from the VTA. The VTHOF encourages participation in trap-shooting among the young shooters by supporting youth programs and educa-tion at the VTA gun clubs. The VTHOF has tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code. In the past several years, the VTHOF has:

1) Assisted Sub-Junior and Junior shooters with half price target fees for certain events during the State, VTHOF and Old Dominion shoots. 2) Supported the VA 4-H Education Council by supporting 2 shooting stations during the 4-H Championships. 3) Purchased the VTHOF plaques for all Hall of Fame Inductees and the club display wall. 4) Conducted silent auction fundraisers at the VTA State Shoot. 5) Developed a new VTHOF website. 6) Created a $500 VTHOF Scholarship for Virginia youth trapshoot- ers. More information is available on the VTA and VTHOF web sites (vatrap.com and www.vatraphof.com). Deadline for applica- tion is April 1, 2015. The winner will be announced at the 2015 State Shoot.

In the future, the VTHOF plans to:

1) Support the AIM Program in procuring entry level equipment, trophies, or in other appropriate ways. 2) Provide assistance to the Boy Scouts in trapshooting and trapshoot ing education activities. 3) Seek additional ways to support youth trapshooting in Virginia.

The VTHOF also oversees the annual selection process for inducting a Virginia shooter into the Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame. Selection is based on superior marksmanship or outstanding efforts made by individuals on behalf of trapshooting in Virginia. Plaques honoring all VTHOF inductees may be seen in the clubhouse of the Winchester Gun Club.

This organization is supported by the generous gifts and items auctioned off during the State Shoot, by cash donations and through individual challenges for matching fund donations from our trapshooting families and supporters.

If you would like additional information, have questions or suggestions for projects supporting the VTHOF functions, or are able to contribute financially, please contact Bob Igou ([email protected]) or any of the other officers or directors listed above.
