On HoliMont Drive this chalet is about as close to HoliMont as you can live without seeing a lift. When those lifts start turning later this month this home will keep you close to the action. Approaching the front door, the rst thing I notice is a ski locker next to the front door. Inside the front door is a mud room with lots of storage for everybody’s ski gear. Up a short ight of steps are three bunk rooms. Here is access to a ight of steps down to the game room. It’s a good sized room and perfect for setting up an entertainment center, pool, or foosball table. It’s below ground level and far enough below the main living area, that the kids can make all the racket they want and not disturb the adults making a racket upstairs. Part way to the top level is another bunk room and a larger adult sized bedroom. In the hallway here is a sort of bisected bathroom. The shower stall is behind one door, and the commode and sink are in another. It’s actually a good layout and doesn’t tie up the whole bath when one person wants to take a shower. Reaching the top level the charms of this chalet really become apparent. The main level is the large living room. The rst thing I notice is the steeply pitched high ceiling. Windows on the top level let in the last of the afternoon light. The dark green beams create a rustic atmosphere. Over in the corner a free standing replace awaits only wood and a match to warm the room with its ery cheer. The red leather couches add a festive touch and the green trim on the doors and windows will bring Christmas to mind any time of the year. With its high ceiling the space is roomy and comfortable and perfect for entertaining a crowd. Down a short hallway from the main room is the second master bedroom. Along the hallway is a large bath with shower. Up one more set of stairs is the kitchen, but rst I must check out the deck outside the sliding glass window. Stepping onto the deck I can hear the stream below. for sharing some hot chocolate in the late afternoon light, while the brook burbles by. Back in the kitchen a half wall creates an open space where you can look down on the living room. Along the half wall a bench provides seating for a small platoon around the dining table. A bench at the end and three chairs on the other side of the table make for plenty of seating. At the far end the kitchen has plenty of counter space and cabinets. The kitchen features an oven and range, along with a microwave/hood combination. A large refrigerator holds plenty of food for the troops. Behind some closet doors, at the dining end of the room are the washer and dryer. Handy, since Mom probably spends a lot of time in the kitchen. Altogether the chalet will

sleep a whopping 16 people. Why so many? It was built in 1976 and ever since has been shared by two large families. They may not have come at the same time, but they could have. With a lot of sleeping space this home will handle a lot of people for ski trips. With the bunk rooms and a large play room at the bottom, this chalet can handle a crowd without having everyone tripping over each other. Back out in the driveway, I fi nd myself marveling at how much room was created in a modest looking home. Once you are inside it feels like a large house, and yet retains a defi nite ski country charm. Just for grins, as I was leaving, I decided to see just how close the chalet is to the slopes at HoliMont. Driving toward HoliMont without traffi c, it’s a mere one minute, seven seconds to the unload area at the slopes. Just around the corner indeed. Day Trippin’“A Christmas Carol” Featuring WKBW’s Mike Randall

BRADFORD, P.A. – The Bradford Landmark Society will be sponsoring a presentation of “A Christmas Carol,” on December 11th. The performance will be at 2:00 pm in the Bromeley Family Theater at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Tickets for the show are now available at Herbig Bakery (Bradford Landmark Society headquarters); John William’s European Pastry Shoppe; Graham’s Florist; Tina’s Hallmark; Ott and McHenry Drug Story and the Bradford Area Public Library. Adult tickets are $15, students age 10 to 18 are $10. This presentation is not intended for children under 10 years of age. It is encouraged to purchase tickets early to ensure a seat. Tickets will also

be available for purchase at the door. This Charles Dickens favorite will be presented by Mike Randall, of Buffalo, NY as a solo performance. Mike Randall’s production of Charles Dickens Presents: A Christmas Carol has been a hug success since its premier in 2007. Giving about 50 performances across Western New York the last three holiday seasons, and premiering at Musical Fare Theatre, audiences and critics agreed that it was great to have Mr. Dickens back in Western New York! A lover of Buffalo history and presenter of one person shows, when Mike Randall discovered that Charles Dickens performed in Buffalo in 1868, he decided to recreate Mr. Dickens presentation of his most well-known story, “A Christmas Carol.” What Randall fi nds most intriguing about Dickens and his readings is the way the author threw himself into the performances no just reading the words but becoming the characters on stage. At one time Charles Dickens had almost become a professional actor. Even when he pursued writing instead, he continued to produce and perform in “amateur theatricals.” His close actor friends claimed repeatedly that Dickens could easily have made a successful career on the stage. The Dickens Readings were not only an outlet for this amateur actor, but they became an absorbing, entertaining Tour de Force, a blending of author/actor creating a wonderful magic on stage. Mike Randall has performed a variety of roles in theatres around the country and he continues to perform his critically acclaimed, one-man portrayal of Mark Twain Live! Mike also spent time as the Marvelous magical Burger King where he perfected his abilities as a magician & live family entertainer. Mike

Randall is also a member of the Puppeteers of America. Chief Meteorologist Mike Randall covers the weather duties for WKBW-TV on “Good Morning Western New York,” in Buffalo (NY). Also an award-winning feature reporter, Mike has interviewed celebrities like Willie Nelson, Jerry Lewis, John Candy, Steve Allen, Red Skelton, Bill Cosby, Gregory Peck and Robert Goulet. Mike has been with WKBW-TV since August of 1983. An avid supporter of the Variety Club of Buffalo, Mike can be seen each year on The Variety Club Telethon for Children’s Hospital. One may also catch Mike making appearances all year round at fashion shows, auctions, and fund-raisers for numerous charitable organizations across Western New York. Mike attended Onondaga Community College for radio and TV and SUNY Geneseo for theatre arts. He received his Certifi cate in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University and earned both the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association Seals of Approval. A career highlight for Mike was fi lling in for Spencer Christian on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” Regarding his performance of this holiday favorite, The Buffalo news wrote: “Mike Randall – a talented actor and magnetic stage presence – when Randall loses himself on of those Dickensian bouts of rich description, he’s at the top of his game. Randall’s close adherence to historical documents relating to Dickens’ performance means that he presents us with the author stripped down to his essence. The man, his words and no more, Randall seems to be saying, are all that is required to enjoy “A Christmas Carol.” And he’s absolutely right. For more information contact the Bradford Landmark Society.
