In February our Primary and Secondary students went on field trips to different parts of Vietnam.

Primary Grades 3 to 5 went to the Mekong Delta and stayed in traditional ‘homestay’ dormitory accommodation. The Mekong Delta proved to be an outstanding success! Stu-dents had a fabulous time mud fishing, traditional cooking, traditional games, kite making and flying. They also visited Vietnam’s famous floating markets and learned about the local plant and wildlife. Since returning to school students have been producing work based on their experiences. Both teachers and students agreed that the trip was exceptional and very worth while. Well done to our Primary students for being such a pleasure to teach.

Secondary students of all Grades visited Cat Tien National Park and the Madagui outdoor activities resort. Many stu-dents exemplified the IB Learner Profile of being a risk-taker. They were adventurous and courageous as they sped down the zip line swinging high above the water; many par-ents would be amazed at how their timid thirteen year old bravely climbed to the top of an enormous climbing wall, and students themselves were amazed at their own creative and collaborative skills when they competed to design a giant catapult.

My first month at EIS has been one of exciting change and it has been a pleasure to be part of the celebration of goals that have come to frui-tion due to the commitment of the Board and Staff. I am looking forward to the rest of the year and am very glad to be part of this edu-cational village.

The highlight of my month has been a field trip to The Mekong Delta with our grade

coming educated Global cit-izens.All Primary students and teachers have begun a new Unit of Enquiry, through which they together will explore new inquiry-based teaching and learning ex-periences. Please ask your child to share what they are learning and join them on their journey of discovery. PYP students are creative thinkers, they work indepen-dently, they ask questions. As parents you can support your children by encourag-ing questions, and by asking your children to share their classroom experiences with you.

Our MYP technology students have been very busy inves-tigating, planning, designing, creating and evaluating a range of products over the last few months. Webpages, personalised desktop icons, school promotional videos, re-mixed songs and educational toys have all been produced, showcasing both the creativity and the diligence of our stu-dents.

Year 6 and 9’s creations have been related to creating movies with their own audio and visual content. This has meant that student have shot their own video and stills, mixed their own sound (which, for the year 6’s also involved writing and performing their own lyrics to an instrumental track), made their own titles and animations and of course edited the whole thing. In the process, students learnt how the shutter speed, ISO and aperture are related and how

On Blue Day, all of us in Kindergarten 2 were truly creative in this “hands-on” tactile piece of Art. We used a variety of different blue materials, like beans, sequins, paint, glue and even sand! Everyone played a part in creating and dec-orating the canvas, and we are all very proud of our finished artwork.

Last month the EUROPEAN In-ternational school hosted Mrs Nancye Sullivan, our IB Pri-mary Years Programme con-sultant.

The visit from Nancye was of great value to all our Pri-mary and Early Years teach-ing team. Nancye shared insightful tips and trends current in the Primary Years Programme. Our teachers will collaborate to plan and develop a learning experi-ence which is vibrant, sup-portive and rigorous for all

knowledge of their interaction gives them creative control of their video and photographs.Year 7’s have been exposed to HTML5 and CSS3 coding through creation of their own bookmarks webpage. Firstly the students had to design and create their own bookmark icons using vector-based graphics, then investigate and uti-lise web mark-up languages in order to display and hyper-link their icons as per their design plan.Year 8’s have been working on a full design project involv-ing researching and investigating the learning development of toddlers (utilising our Early Years classes) in order to

produce an appropriate toy. Hand drawn toy designs were converted into 3D models in order to thoroughly evaluate design ideas before getting out the tools in the workshop. These real-life projects, utilizing the Design Cycle as a structure to guide student thinking, are invaluable and contribute significantly to the all round development of our students.

our students. We have al-ready seen the inquisitive minds of Primary students probing with dynamic ques-tions through this inqui-ry-based learning environ-ment.

Nancye’s visit culminates with the final stages of our endeavour to become a fully accredited IB school. With Nancye’s guidance, our team is working together to deliver a seamless curricu-lum that will make EIS the first choice for many par-ents in Ho Chi Minh City. Furthermore, this ensures that as EIS students, they are well on their way to be-
