Editor’s

Note

Hey Everyone!

I’m Julien Rosenbloom, editor of the Voorhees High School Key Club. As we begin to grow accustomed to the myriad of events that Key Club has to offer, us of-

ficers at Key Club will begin our “Member of the Month” program. There is no appli-cation or form needed; we evaluate members based on their contribution to their

community and how they take advantage of the opportunities we have to offer. As

you can tell, this evaluation is not quantitative, but qualitative. We care more about

how you volunteer at our events rather than how often you do. This is just something I

want you to keep in mind as you continue to be an active member in our organiza-

tion.

Also, please find the opportunity to run for Lieutenant Governor (LTG) in the arti-

cle on page 10. This is an amazing opportunity and, if you have done an outstanding

job in terms of service, is not restricted to just officers. It is the perfect introduction to

see the Key Club at its state level, which is its second most powerful. Our LTG is Nate

Silberman, so if you have any questions about running, please reach out to him at

Update on Recent

Events

Spirit Fest Food Drive We had our Spirit Fest Food Drive competition two weeks ago as part

of our Spirit Fest celebration that led up to the tense Milk Can game.

The seniors of Voorhees High School won the drive, totaling an out-

standing weight in regards to the amount of food brought in. It was

enlightening to see how passionate you all were to bring in non-

perishables for those less fortunate to have, and we hope that your

admiration and sense of service does not end there! We look forward

to your future contributions (and look out for this week’s food drive!)

Book Drive Great job with all of your donations to our

divisional Book Drive!! It was great to see

the overwhelming amount of titles placed

in our bin, and we know that the children

that these are being donated to will en-

joy reading them just as much as you en-

joyed donating them! Once we are in-

formed of our grand total, we will let you

know.

2nd Coffeehouse (A success!) Thank you to all who donated your time to make the year’s second VHS Key Club Coffeehouse a success! The donuts were a fan favorite of the buyers, as were the

fresh pancakes being made on-the-spot. We’ll need more breakfast baked goods (muffins, bread, etc.) and holiday-themed foods for our December coffeehouse. Let

us know if you’re interested in baking or selling! We’ll also need some volunteers with a study hall mods 1 and 2 to assist in clean-up.

Thanks to all of you wonderful VHS Key Clubbers! You’ve been doing great recently and we cannot wait to see you at some of

our upcoming events!

Again, if you sign up for an event, please do your best to attend. If you have made the commitment, it is essential that you stick with

it and show up. We have a very good reputation for event attend-

ance, and we would like to keep it up!

VHS Winter

Festival

This year, we are lucky to have the opportunity to volunteer at the

Voorhees High School Music Association’s Winter Festival. There will be

over 100 vendors selling holiday gifts, with the Voorhees High School Key

Club being one of them! We will be selling the bracelets from our part-

ner, Beads of Hope Africa, from 9am—4pm, and you can sign up to help

for a number of varying time slots. This is a great opportunity to learn

about one of our service partners and to give back to the community on

a global scale, as all of the proceeds from Beads of Hope sales go to-

wards giving scholarships to Ugandan girls.

Beads of Hope Africa is a non-profit dedicated

to making the lives of Ugandans better.

Ugandan women dedicate their time to

creating these bracelets, and our sales offer

the opportunity to give back to them.

Holiday Food Drive

In the spirit of giving and just in time for this holiday season, the Voorhees

High School Key Club is hosting a holiday food drive from Monday, Novem-

ber 17th through Monday, November 24th. Every pound of perishables is

worth two pounds, while every pound of non-perishables is one pound.

Some perishables would include potatoes, apples, onions, and cranberries,

and some non-perishables include stuffing, pumpkin pie filling, and cans of

soup — bring in things that you’d like to have at your Thanksgiving dinner!

Based on the amount of perishables and non-perishables donated to the

drive, homeroom and individual prizes will be rewarded. The homeroom to

donate the most food will win a free breakfast, and the individual student to

donate the most food will be rewarded with a gift certificate.

Happy holidays, and we hope that you donate

as much as possible!

ELIMINAThon

The ELIMINAThon is a codivisional, and ultimately district-wide, volleyball

tournament. It is being held so as to help achieve our district’s goal for dona-

tions to the ELIMINATE Project, which is working to ELIMINATE maternal neona-

tal tetanus from the face of the earth (and we’re pretty close). If volleyball is

your thing or you just want to help us reach this district goal, see one of your

officers, advisers, or LTG Nate for instructions on how to sign up. Our division’s

tournament will be at Bridgewater-Raritan High School on Friday, November

21st from 7:00pm to 9:30pm. Teams must be of five, and winners will go on to

compete at the district level if they advance that far.

Helping Hands

In the coming weeks, to continue our holiday streak, Key Clubbers

will place a Christmas tree in the main office that has tags attached;

each tag will have person’s name with a requested gift. Pick up one

tag, two tags, three tags, or as many as you’d like, and fulfill that per-

son’s holiday wish! This is another opportunity to make a family’s holiday

just as special as yours, and we hope that you take advantage of this,

as well as our food drive and winter festival table! All donations of gifts

will be due in the first week of December.

November 17th—24th: Holiday Food Drive

Bring in perishable foods for 2 points per pound and non-perishable foods

for 1 point per pound. The homeroom and individual who donates the

most will be rewarded with a free breakfast and a gift certificate, respec-

tively.

Club International’s goals of eliminating maternal neonatal tetanus from the face of the planet!

November 22: Voorhees High School Music Association’s Winter Festival Come out for a day of holiday gift-buying while you man our table to sell

Beads of Hope bracelets. This is a great place to get some holiday shop-

ping done and buy homemade food.

Late November / Early December: Helping Hands

There will be a Christmas tree with tags set up in the main office with a per-

son’s name and requested gift on the tag. Pick up a tag and donate their requested gift by the end of the first week of December.
