Introduction
Good Afternoon, Key Clubbers!
Thank you for attending our June 2nd ice cream social. Starting with
this newsletter, you will be able to access a copy of it on the web address
issuu.com/julierosenb. You’ll be able to subscribe to the publications
which will be especially useful during the summer when general meetings
are not held. We’ll now have a monthly feature of the publication called
“Volunteer Spotlight”. We will reach out to any volunteer who demon-
strates a passion for service and Key Club and ask if he or she would be in-
terested in being interviewed and featured in the next issue of “The Viking
Key”. We hope all of you are excited by this new feature and that you
continue to excel in serving your community!
If you have any ideas for articles or wish to spotlight a local volunteer-
ing opportunity, please contact me at [email protected].
An Update In the past few weeks, we have had quite a few service oppor-
tunities, and we’d like to thank you all for your time and service! The
most recent event was Flags on Graves at Fairmount Cemetery two
weeks ago. It was a very meaningful and fulfilling opportunity, and I
encourage all of you to try to make it next year. We then had our
Rita’s Sale for ELIMINATE Week on May 15, which will be expanded up-
on in another article. We raised over $100, and we would like to thank
all of you who made this possible! Another event was on May 18, in
which we cleaned up what remained of Blues Fest. Thank you to all
that came out and helped keep the park clean!

Volunteer Spotlight:
Kyle Morello
After reviewing a certain Key Clubber’s commitment and excep-
tional dedication to service, we decided to spotlight an outstanding
member and Voorhees senior, Kyle Morello. Here is what he said regard-
ing his love for Key Club:
Key Club: When and why did you join Key Club?
Kyle Morello: I joined Key Club freshman year. In the beginning, I didn’t know
what Key Club was and thought it wasn’t going to be of my interest. However,
in mid-February, I learned from my parents that Key Club was a community of
volunteers striving to make a difference, and I was immediately willing to join. I
love helping those in need and serving the community. Out of all the
committees and clubs at Voorhees that give me the opportunity to serve oth-
ers, this one is the most enjoyable. Compared to the other charity groups, this
one gives me the opportunity to help out in the community more.
KC: What is your favorite part of Key Club?
KM: My favorite part of Key Club is the
volunteering and charity events. Whether it’s Dine
Italian, the High Bridge Recycling Day, March of
Dimes, or any of the Bake Sales, I always enjoy
them — helping the needy, the school, and the
community means a lot to me. I try not to miss any
these events. These events give me more purpose
in life, help me make more friends, and help me
develop social skills.

KC: Do you have a favorite memory or service opportunity from Key Club?
KM: My favorite memory from Key Club is all of the Six Flags Fall Rallies. I really
enjoy the rides from the incredible King Da Ka, to the dark and edgy Batman
rides, to the extremely breathtaking Superman ride. When I heard that we at-
tend an annual meeting at Six Flags commemorating the officers of the vari-
ous schools and the club itself, I immediately wanted to attend to see what it
was about. Surely enough, I loved the rally. The presentations were cool, crea-
tive, and entertaining. My particular favorite presentation was this year’s, it
was Superhero themed!
KC: What advice would you give to incoming or prospective Key Clubbers?
KM: Try to make the most of your Key Club membership and be involved in as
many events as you can. It’s a great way to make friends, and it is good for
the heart.

Thanks Kyle!

Eliminate is a project of UNICEF and Kiwanis
International dedicated to eliminating maternal and
neonatal tetanus. Nearly 60,000 babies die every year, after
being born with tetanus. The most intense side effects of this
deadly disease are painful convulsions and extreme
sensitivity to light and to touch. The Eliminate Project’s
website states that to eliminate MNT from the Earth, “more
than 100 million mothers and their future babies must be
immunized.” The project estimates that it will take $110
million dollars to achieve this goal, as well as the dedication
of the Kiwanis family (that means you!).
This year, Voorhees Key Club do-
nated $1,000 dollars to the ELIMINATE
Project. All of you who helped out at
the Rita’s sale helped with increasing
that donation, so thank you. Help us
continue supporting this noble cause
next year by raising even more money!

Beads of Hope
Beads of Hope is a nonprofit organization with a
focus in Uganda. As stated on their website, Beads of
Hope’s mission is “to empower women currently living in
poverty through economic opportunity.” These women
in particular are Ugandan citizens who craft jewelry to
give to Beads of Hope to sell, with the proceeds going
back to the women in Uganda. Voorhees High School
Key Club will be supporting this movement by selling
bracelets made by these women for $10 a piece. In
addition to empowering the women in Uganda and
women abroad, the proceeds are used to fund
education projects and scholarships in the region. Key
Club will earn a margin of these profits.
We have just received our
beads, so you can expect a num-
ber of opportunities to sell this sum-
mer! Stay tuned for updates!

LTEF “Run into Summer” 5k:
The Lebanon Township Education Foundation is hosting a 5k
to celebrate the start of summer. They are asking for 6 - 12
volunteers on Sunday, June 8 to assist in the event from 8 to
11am. Some of the tasks include calling out scores, keeping
track of time, and handing out water.
Senior Awards Night:
As with every year, Voorhees High School is honoring our sen-
iors with awards, and they are asking us to help out by usher-
ing family members into their seats in the auditorium. You will
have to dress nicely and meet Mr. Baumann at 6:30. This
event is tomorrow, Tuesday, June 3.
Potential Beads of Hope Sales:
As we have recently received our shipment from Beads of
Hope, there will be a number of opportunities for members
to sell this summer. These would be great as birthday, anni-
versary, or graduation gifts.
