Pastor Andy shared a few photos
and thoughts about his mission
with "Our Journey" to Kenya at
our Summer Sabbath in
July. The small number of
pictures and stories were just to
whet our appetite as he promised
more depth and details at an
upcoming Wednesday Evening
Study.
PASTOR ANDY’S TRIP TO KENYA
2 SEPTEMBER 2016 THE VIEW from Presbyterian Hill
“Happy are those who find wisdom, and those
who get understanding.”
The start of another academic school year means we start again here in
the church with our own “school year.” Much has been and is being
planned to make sure we offer the very best in Christian Education.
Here’s a rundown of what to expect this fall as we all find the time to
learn more about our faith and each other here at FPC.
Sunday School--
Bruce Morgan’s class meets in the CE Room.
Betty Sloop’s class meets just off the “front porch” area across from the
ladies restrooms.
Elementary aged children meet in the back classroom with Ms. Clair.
Preschool meets in the nursery with Ms. Millie.
Youth actually meet with FPC Clarkesville youth after worship every Sunday 12:30-2.
Wednesday Nights (begins September 7th)
Kids 1st begins each Wednesday after school around 3:30. Snack time, homework time,
Bible time, all lead into dinner with the adults. Dinner will be followed by music and then off
to play time to end the afternoon/evening. Ms. Clair is excited to once again lead the charge
with our children.
Adults will meet for dinner at 5:30. The children will join us for a time of “intergenerational
fun and fellowship” around the tables. This means the kids will be spread out and eat at
tables with the adults. Discussion questions and games will be a part of our dinner time fun.
Bible study will follow until 7:20.
Monthly Women’s Bible Study---Second Thursday mornings at 10 AM
The sanctuary will be open during office hours for personal reflection. Weekly worship guides
will be available as well.
I pray each of us find time to learn this fall.
Blessings,
Pastor Andy

BACK TO SCHOOL BASH
For the third year, FPC has participated in the county-wide “Back to School Bash” to help families in need get some assistance for their school children. Joining other churches in the White County Ministerial Association, our church purchased items from Walmart to fill 500 donated backpacks. Wednesday afternoon a group gathered at church and stuffed the backpacks. We didn't have as many volunteers as last year but those that came worked hard and sometimes got creative. (See Bob’s contraption for 3 bags at a time.) As always a good time was had by all. Saturday was the day of the Bash. We set up and handed out
snow cones. Everything was free. Families that came to the event were offered backpacks, a hotdog lunch, jumpy houses, crazy hair, face painting, haircuts, dental screenings and various other booths set up to inform or be helpful. The weather was just about perfect, as it seemed like it was going to rain, but never did. It was a festive, happy atmosphere. As one of our faithful volunteers, Duren Chambers said, ”I had a lot of fun.” Thanks to all the folks who had a hand in making this a success and had fun too!

BACK TO SCHOOL PARTY
Sunday afternoon before our evening worship service, out KIDS 1st group celebrated Back to School with their own outdoor water party. A large blow up water slide and a 30’ slip and slide were brought in to aid in the fun. Water guns, water balloons, water paint, bubbles and water toys added to the festivities. Our own Pastor Andy was seen flying down the water slide much to the delight of the kids. The afternoon weather had to be worked around, but nothing would stop the fun. Thanks to the team of David and Clair Arvold and assorted helpers for making this event happen.
