Just a reminder to parents and children that when collecting donations for the up coming ‘Jump Rope for Heart’, please do not ask/let your child go door to door. By not asking our children to go door to door, this will keep them from handling large amounts of money in front of strangers, entering homes of people they don’t know, and to not have the general public see this fundraiser as any type of solicitation on behalf of VES. The school will be participating in the ‘Bike to Work/School’ week again this year, May 27-June 2. Keep track of your KM’s for each day and then we can tally them up at the end of the week. We are currently one of two schools in #57 school district that are registered; so far we are competing against Malaspina Elementary School in Prince George. This is a great healthy competition that will get everyone outside, enjoying nature, and doing an activity that is healthy for our bodies. Enjoy the sunshine and have an amazing month! The weather is warming up and the sun is shining; the birds are singing, and the ground is

almost ready for planting...summer is just around the corner. It is now only 2 months

(58 days, but who’s counting right?) until the last day of school! This may seem like a lot of

time until school is over; however, there are so many events and activities planned that the

time is going to fly by as fast those newly arrived hummingbirds! Take a look to the left at

the “Dates to Remember” column to see the who, what, when, where and why’s of VES.

“May, more than any other month of the year, wants us to feel most alive” - Fennel Hudson.

Take this month to truly be in the ‘moment.’ Mental Health Awareness week is May 13-17

and in light of this, try using the 5-4-3-2-1 technique used to help combat anxiety, when you

are outside: 5 things you can see around you, 4 things you can touch around you, 3 things

you can hear around you, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste. This will bring

your clouded thoughts back to the ‘present’ and help alleviate the feelings of losing control.

VES has planned a ’Welcome to Kindergarten’ day on May 9 from 12:30-2PM. During this

time any child that will attending VES in September 2019 will attend this session with a

parent or guardian. This is an important day for meeting our new Kinder’s and it is a great

time for parents to see the school and meet the staff.

The PAC has been working so hard this year to arrange many amazing hot lunches and

activities for us all to enjoy. We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude

as a school to the PAC members, we all appreciate your hard work. The ’Easy Breakdance’

course that is being offered to our students during the week of May 13-17 is sponsored by

the PAC. This course will take place during the allotted gym time.

**A friendly reminder to all parents/guardians to please have hot lunch forms returned to

the school on the date specified; this is especially important with orders from restaurants

around the village (ie. Esso, A&W, and Subway to name a few). This makes it easier for the

PAC to do business with the restaurants, as well as helping our PAC volunteers to accurately

deliver the hot lunches in a timely fashion.

Just a reminder to parents and children that when collecting donations for the up coming

‘Jump Rope for Heart’, please do not ask/let your child go door to door. By not asking our

children to go door to door, this will keep them from handling large amounts of money in

front of strangers, entering homes of people they don’t know, and to not have the general

public see this fundraiser as any type of solicitation on behalf of VES.

The school will be participating in the ‘Bike to Work/School’ week again this year,

May 27-June 2. Keep track of your KM’s for

each day and then we can tally them up at

the end of the week. We are currently one

of two schools in #57 school district that

are registered; so far we are competing

against Malaspina Elementary School in

Prince George. This is a great healthy

competition that will get everyone outside,

enjoying nature, and doing an activity that

is healthy for our bodies.

Enjoy the sunshine and have an amazing

month!
