The role of instructional design is to help make sense of information.
“Instructional design has clear goals & gets your learners focused on the right things.”
Focus learners on smaller, more specific pieces of information (chunking)
Collaborate with others to ensure you’re focusing on the right information
Provide clear guidance to avoid unwanted distractions
“Instructional design provides context and perspective.”
Provide context to ensure learners are focusing on the right thing
Work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure content is accurate and up-to-date
Cut through the extraneous information to get to the ‘meat’ of the content
“Instructional design compresses the learning process and saves time.”
Ensure that content is dynamic and will engage learners
Don’t make learners search for the important pieces of information
Emphasize why the content is important to learners
“Instructional design engages learners with clear and meaningful content.”
