Trustee Notes

Greetings from the Worship Team

After a Joyful Advent season the worship team is looking forward to preparing for meaningful

Lenten Services. Memorial Spring flowers will be available again this year to

honor loved ones.

The Worship Team would like to congratulate our young people for serving as

Deacons and Lay Readers on Youth Sunday December 30TH. Hopefully this can

become an annual event! GOOD JOB KIDS!

The first Worship Team meeting of the new year will be Saturday February 2ND at

10:00 am in the Fellowship hall at the church.

The trustees were given Board approval in November for two new furnaces for the sanctuary. Jeff

Brown of Brown’s Heating & Cooling installed the furnaces on December 17th and 18th.

Thanks to Brian Fockler for his good service of clearing snow and salting the parking lot and side-

walks.

Blind Trust

Lex Gillette, a blind long-jumper from North Carolina, participated in 2004, 2008 and 2012 Paralympic

Games. Before an event, his guide shows him around the course. During competitions, the guide positions

Gillette at the starting line, then goes to the sand pit, where he claps and calls steadily so the athlete can

follow the sounds and run straight ahead. Gillette knows to jump when he hits his 16th step.

Unable to see where he’s going, nor the line from which to jump, nor where he’ll land, Gillette entrusts

himself fully to his guide. The result? Three consecutive silver medals, and a world record set in 2011!

We’ll all blind to what lies ahead in life, so our guide, the Holy Spirit, goes before

us and beckons us forward in the way we should go. Entrusting ourselves to God, we can do

great things.

The “What’s” of the Lenten Season

It’s hard to believe that the Lenten season is almost here. Seems like we were all talking about

Thanksgiving preparations and before we could blink, Christmas decorations and celebrations were

taking place. Maybe it’s because each year that I gain in age the time goes by quicker…there’s still 60

seconds in a minute…isn’t there?

What is Lent?

Lent is the Christian season of preparation before Easter. In Western Christianity, Ash Wednesday marks

the first day, or the start of the season of Lent, which begins 40 days prior to Easter (Sundays are not

included in the count).

Lent is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance,

moderation and spiritual discipline. The purpose is to set aside time for reflection on Jesus Christ - his

suffering and his sacrifice, his life, death, burial and resurrection.

What is the Theme for Lent?

This year the theme for Lent will be “Jesus—Our Wounded Healer”. This theme will use Hebrews 4:15

as it’s central verse, which reads, “For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and

sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of

temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning.” (AMP).

What Will Happen During Lent?

Ash Wednesday (February 13th): A congregational call for fasting and prayer. The sermon on Sunday

(February 10th) will be centered on God’s call for fasting and prayer. As we corporately respond to this

call it will not only help us to be more sensitive to the voice of God as He leads us individually, but it

will help us to come together in one accord as we seek His vision for the church on the 16th.

Palm Sunday (March 24th): We will be commemorating Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The

Bible reveals that when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds greeted him by waving palm branches and

covering his path with palm branches. Immediately following this great time of celebration in the

ministry of Jesus, he begins his journey to the cross.

Maundy Thursday (March 28th): We will be commemorating the Last Supper, the night before Jesus

was crucified. This will be a service at the church. More about this service will be shared in the March

newsletter.

Easter Sunday (March 31st): We will be celebrating the resurrection of our Lord and Savior!

Without doubt this is a very important time for reflection, repentance, and rejoicing for the Church!

With Love In Christ,

Pastor Scott

No Anniversaries

Who were the craftmen appointed by the Lord to design the Tent of

Meeting and its furnishings while

Israel was still in the wilderness

before entering the Promised

Land?

A. Moses and Joshua

B. Bezalel and Oholiab

C. Judah and Reuben

D. David and Jonathan

Some men were talking about death and dying when this question

came up: “What would you want people to say about you at your

funeral?”

One replied, “I’d want people to say, “He was a great and com-

passionate humanitarian who cared about those in need.”

A second said, “I’d want people to say, “He was a good father and

husband, whose life was a fine example for others to follow.”

A third answered, “I’d like them to say, “Look, he’s moving!”

An exciting eulogy

Answer: B (See Exodus 31:1-11.)

“Teach us to love”

O God, perfect us in love,

That we may conquer all selfishness

and hatred of others;

Fill our hearts with thy joy,

And shed abroad in them thy peace

which

Passeth understanding;

That so those murmurings and

disputing

To which we are too prone may be

overcome.

Make us long-suffering and gentle,

And thus subdue our hastiness and

angry tempers,

And grant that we may bring forth

the blessed fruits of the Spirit,

To thy praise and glory, through

Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Grief

Family of Jack Riley

Family of Ella Gladman

Our heartfelt thanks to our Church Family and Pastor Scott for all the prayers to help pull us through a

bad year. First one and then the other were having problems with our health. Without our friends,

neighbors, and families we just couldn’t have made it.

Lois and Gene Muster brought us communion and soup from the children. Gene always brought good

stuff from his garden. We are blessed.

Cathy and Kim Grandison took communion to Darrell in Canton. (more good friends)

Our 57th anniversary was November 20th. No celebration, just glad we were still together.

Then Darrell got sick and couldn’t breathe. Back to Canton. They took two liters of fluid from his left

lung. It really helped but was very painful. He then came back to Trinity Twin City for therapy on his

legs and feet. He is walking with a walker but doesn’t have much feeling there.

We will be back to our church. I miss all of you. We keep in touch with Miss Ella, Jack and Marianna,

so we know how things are looking up. Sounds real good!!

We know we have a new generation of good cooks coming up. Bless

everyone who help our children learn.

May God’s Blessings be with us all in the New Year.

In Jesus name. Amen.
