A Message from Dean Mosera
We celebrate the success of some of our brightest, most dedicated students tonight, and we honor their parents and supporters, faculty advisors, mentors, teachers and others who have influenced these talented individuals. We are also here to reflect, to remember, to think about the future. What are the lessons we have learned during these years at Southern Miss? How can we improve, enhance and upgrade our skills and practices to ensure future achievement and success? Are we each giving all we can to make sure we are successful in finding our “next step,” connecting with a work and civic life of which we can be proud?
The students whose names are contained within these pages represent each academic unit’s recognition of the extraordinary talent, commitment and hard work of its students. These students will go on to be leaders, political movers and shakers, supporters of the arts and education, and pillars of civic pride and responsibility. We know we will see each of them again at Alumni Association meetings, at athletic events, in public lectures and at artistic performances. We hope to see them again one day, sitting in the audience while their own children are recognized on the stage.
Congratulations all, and thank you for taking Southern Miss to the TOP!

About Tonight’s Speakera
Amelia Steadman McGowan is a Hattiesburg native and a proud graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi, where she received degrees in history (international studies) and Spanish in 2006. At Southern Miss, she was active in the Honors College, English Language Institute, Indian Students’ Association and Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society. Amelia’s academic career then took her to Tulane University in New Orleans, where she graduated in December 2009 with a J.D. and an M.A. in Latin American studies.
Amelia currently works as the managing attorney for Refugee and Immigration Services at Catholic Charities – Diocese of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she has worked since March 2015. Her work focuses on a number of U.S. immigration law issues, including removal (deportation) defense, asylum claims, family-based petitions and naturalization. Before that time, she ran her own law practice focusing on immigration law cases and worked as a staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi.
