OU Engineering faculty and staff promote Oklahoma’s economy through research, instruc- tion and public service, and technology transfer. As the largest engineering program in the Sooner state with 2,100 undergraduate students, 700 graduate students and a 115-member faculty, we are striving to provide the best engineering education avail- able in higher education today. FACULTY RENOWN Our faculty includes 15 professional society fellows and 40 professional registered engineers. Twenty-eight members of our faculty are listed in various Who’s Who listings. Many of the honors and awards received by our faculty recognize their outstanding leadership as teachers and scholars. These highly regarded faculty have authored or edited more than 600 refereed journal articles and more than 107 books. In addition, 29 hold named chairs and professorships and 30 serve either as editor or on the editorial boards of national or international journals. TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION Always pioneers, OU was the first university in the United States to offer a degree in engineering physics. In keeping with that tradition, we offer a state-of-the-art engineering computer network for research and instruction. OU was one of the first colleges of engineering to incorporate laptops into the curriculum and to provide wireless Internet in the classrooms. More than 60 patents have been issued to OU’s College of Engineering faculty. STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT The profile of the College of Engineering student body is exceptional. A typical incoming class will have 40-45 National Scholars and more than one-third of the class will have an average ACT of 30 or higher; SAT of 1400 or higher. OU Engineering faculty and staff promote Oklahoma’s economy through research, instruc-tion and public service, and technology transfer. As the largest engineering program in the Sooner state with 2,100 undergraduate students, 700 graduate students and a 115-member faculty, we are striving to provide the best engineering education avail-able in higher education today.

FACULTY RENOWNOur faculty includes 15 professional society fellows and 40 professional registered engineers.

TECHNOLOGY INNOVATIONAlways pioneers, OU was the first university in the United States to offer a degree in engineering physics.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTThe profile of the College of Engineering student body is exceptional. A typical incoming class will have 40-45 National Scholars and more than one-third of the class will have an average ACT of 30 or higher; SAT of 1400 or higher. The average ACT for the freshman class is 27.8; the average SAT is 1240. STUDENT ACTIVITIESThe College of Engineering has an active and service-oriented student body. The Engineers’ Club is the largest student organization on campus and hosts several major events throughout the year includ-ing Fall Fesitval to welcome first-year students to the College; Open House for Oklahoma high school students; Engineering Career Fair; Engineers’ Week, and the traditional as well as popular, Hamburger Feed before every home football game.

The Dean’s Leadership Council is comprised of upperclass students willing to contribute their time and talent to helping other engineering students. DLC members serve in one of three ways. DLC Mentors volunteer their time to help first-year engineering students make a successful transition to the College; DLC Tutors help engineering students with their academic coursework; and DLC Recruiters host pro-spective engineering students and families when they visit the campus. DLC members also advise the Dean of the College of Engineering on important issues related to student success and retention.

Diversity is a priority on our campus and our success in recruiting, retaining and graduating engineering students from under-represented populations is recognized nationally. The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES), the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), and

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is another active student organization and one that contributes to the strong representation of women among our engineering students. Open to both women and men, SWE hosts social events, recruitment events such as High School Girls Day and Girl Scout workshops to encourage girls and young women to consider engineering as a career, and events that promote leadership, diversity and education.

Each of the Schools in the College of Engineering has an active technical society for students in that particular discipline. The Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE),

the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) are but a few examples.

STUDENT PLACEMENTWe want our students to succeed after college. That’s why OU’s Career Services Office, in close cooperation with the College of Engineering, is dedicated to enhancing the career development of our students. Professionally trained and diversely experienced career counselors teach career planning/job search skills and facilitate the exchange of information among students, alumni, faculty, adminis-trators and employers.

Career Services conducts an extensive on-campus interviewing program, hosting representatives from approximately 300 organizations each year; maintains a Web Resume Book that can be viewed by employers worldwide; and provides a menu-driven, searchable job listing program. In addition to the College of Engineering’s fall Career Fair, Career Services further facilitates placement by offering annual career fairs and continuing to expand OU’s internship and co-op programs.
