Our admissions review is

need-blindso your ability to pay for college is never a factor in our decision.

AFFORDING CAROLINACarolina has been named “Best Value” among publics for its combination of academic excellence and affordability by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance for 14 years.

GETTING HERE: APPLYING FOR ADMISSIONAs we sit down to read each application, we really don’t have an “ideal” student in mind. Rather, we like being surprised by each individual applicant’s interests and talents. But some common themes still tend to emerge among our favorites: They’re smart. Motivated. Service-oriented. Curious. Creative. Courageous. The kind of people who will not only flour-ish in but actively enhance our community while they’re here. Which greatly increases the likelihood that they’ll go on to enhance the world later.

Sticker shock? Some costs listed above are indirect costs and vary from student to student. But we use this full estimated cost to calculate financial aid packages.

I applied to several colleges but UNC came out on top for me when it came to the total package. UNC is ranked within the top 30 universities in the U. S. and affordable enough that I could attend as an out-of-state student. UNC also offers great research opportunities, world-class professors, and Division 1 athletics.
