a) Areas of special interest and accomplishments
Curriculum development: I have developed a number of new courses at UBC, including: -Family Mediation and Conflict Resolution (one of the first such graduate-level courses in Canada, first such course at UBC, now a core practice course in the MSW program) -Communication and Interviewing Skills in Social Work Practice (undergraduate program, first such course in the School of Social Work, now a core course in the BSW program) -Social Work Practice in the Field of Addiction (the first such course at UBC, now a core practice course in the MSW program) -Social Justice: Children and Families (core course for students in the Child and Family Stream in the MSW program) Participation at the B.S.W. and M.S.W. Committees, and the Ph.D. Committee at the School of Social Work. Thesis and major paper faculty advisor to over 100 graduate students on a wide range of subject areas. Curriculum development, teaching and research consultant to the Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences University, Tehran.

Since 1988, I have been invited as a guest panelist at various fora to speak on divorce, child custody determination, and family mediation, or interviewed as a resource person on these topics by television, radio, and the print media in Canada, the U.S. and Britain. I have also spoken before a range of parliamentary committees on these topics. I have had several print, radio and television interviews relating to various harm reduction initiatives in the field of addiction. Finally, I continue to provide assistance to the Social Work and Rehabilitation Sciences University in Iran in social work policy and program

13. Other Relevant Information (one page maximum)
Twenty seven refereed articles published in scholarly journals, of which I am the sole author in 21 and the primary author in 24 articles. I have 13 additional articles in professional journals. The journals are varied in their focus: social work, law, mediation, family studies, men's studies, and divorce studies. Most of these are the leading journals in their respective fields; they are primarily international in scope and interdisciplinary in focus.
Five sole-authored books since UBC appointment.
Twenty-seven peer-reviewed journal articles since UBC appointment. The great majority of these are sole authored and many are lead articles for the journal. Nine book chapters since UBC appointment. The majority of these are sole authored and were peer-reviewed. Six major research projects since UBC appointment.
Numerous conference presentations. Several of these were invitationals, and many were at international interdisciplinary conferences.
Special service contributions to the UBC Downtown Eastside initiative, primarily through the Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users and the Harm Reduction Action Society. Past service contributions to various mediation and conflict resolution initiatives, including the drive for provincial and national mediation certification. Consultant to the Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences University in Iran. Recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, 2012. In recognition of service and research contributions, carried out with distinction, related to the best interests of children in divorce / family law reform.
