Our First President
George Washington was our first president. He was chosen, and did not have a political party.
Secretary of State
Thomas Jefferson was the first head of the State Department. The State Department takes care of foreign affairs.
Treasury Department
Alexander Hamilton was assigned the position of head of the Treasury Department. The Treasury Department takes care of the nations debt and finances, and runs the National Bank.
War Department
Henry Knox was the man in charge of advising George Washington on how to handle America’s defenses.
The Attorney General
The United States first Attorney General was Edmund Randolph. The Attorney General represents the U.S. government in front of the Supreme Court.
The First Judiciary Act
The first judiciary act was Marbury V.
Madison (1803) this established judicial
review, which allows the Supreme Court
to deem a law unconstitutional.
