Aaron was the distinguished Principal Euphonium and Euphonium Soloist of the world famous New York Staff Band from 1993 to 2009. While a member of the band, he toured all over the world and performed in esteemed venues including New York City’s Carnegie Hall with Elton John and Lincoln Center with the Canadian Brass and the Principal Brass of the New York Philharmonic.

Dr. Deanna Swoboda has enjoyed a vibrant career as a performer, educator, and entrepreneur. As a performer she played tuba with the internationally recognized Dallas Brass and performed solo recitals throughout the United States and Europe. Prior to her appointment at Arizona State University, she served on the faculty at Western Michigan University where taught tuba and euphonium, developed music and entrepreneurship programs, and coached chamber music.

The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” presents a brass and percussion ensemble from The U.S. Army Concert Band. Included on this program will be the world premiere of Formations, Op. 7 by MSG Jeffrey Cortazzo, featuring SGM Don Palmire as soloist. Learn about this new addition to the repertoire in a pre-concert chat with MSG Cortazzo at 7:00 p.m. in the Loboda Studio.

Also featured on this concert will be "Pershing's Own" alum, Dr. Michael Forbes. Currently teaching Music Theory, Composition and Low Brass at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Forbes is a founding member of the world renowned Sotto Voce Tuba Quartet.

David Thornton is regarded as one of the foremost euphonium players and teachers of his generation. His work as a soloist, conductor, and educator is renowned throughout the brass-playing world to have a distinct hallmark of extreme virtuosity and professionalism. His work within the brass band world has seen him at the top flight for over a decade. David is currently the solo euphonium player with the world-famous Brighouse and Rastrick Band.

Dr. Aaron Tindall is the assistant professor of tuba and euphonium at Ithaca College, School of Music. He holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a Master’s of Music with Distinction from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England, UK, and a Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Penn State University. He has additional Doctoral studies at Indiana University.

The U.S. Army Orchestra will feature tuba soloists David Saltzman, Aaron Tindall, and euphonium soloist SSG Toby Furr.

Saltzman has been the Principal Tuba of the Toledo Symphony and the Glimmerglass Opera Festival Orchestra, and professor at Bowling Green State University since 2007.

SSG Toby Furr is one of the newest members of “Pershing’s Own.” He became the first euphonium player to win the Leonard Falcone International Student and Artist Competition in back-to-back years in 2010 and 2011. Furr will be performing Francois Glorieux’s Fantasy for Euphonium and Orchestra.

Join us at 11:30 a.m in the Loboda Studio for a special tribute recital in honor of CSM (Ret.) Ross N. Morgan, Jr., long time member of The United States Army Band “Pershings Own.” In addition to achieving the highest enlisted rank of Sergeant Major and being the enlisted

leader of the Band prior to his retirement, Ross was one of the driving forces behind the annual U.S. Army Band Tuba and Euphonium Workshop from its inception. This tribute recital will feature performances by several of his friends and colleagues, active duty and retired military band members, and other professionals from across the U.S.

The 2014 U.S. Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Workshop closes with the Grand Concert featuring The U.S. Army Concert Band and guest soloists.

SFC Jason Ham, of The U.S. Military Academy Band at West Point, will perform Johan de Meij’s UFO Concerto, conducted by the composer.
