General installation instructions for Lullaby Acoustic UnderlayPlease note: These are basic instructions and guidance for the system which includes a number of variations that are specific to different applications and floor finishes. For a comprehensive guide on specific floor finishes please visit www.lullabyunderlay.com

PRIOR TO INSTALLATION

1.1 Please check the condition of the sub-floor. Moisture readings should not exceed those prescribed by the manufacturer of the floorcovering you are installing. If the readings do exceed the limits prescribed then a DPM (damp proof membrane) such as 1200 gauge polythene sheeting must be used.

1.2 Please check carefully the condition of the sub-floor. Any flaky or dust generating floors may require the application of a primer. The sub-floor should be smooth, dry and relatively level.

1.3 Along with most types of flooring coverings Lullaby should be allowed to acclimatise in the location that it is to be installed. We recommend that this should be 48 hours for Lullaby.

INSTALLATION OF LULLABY

2.1 Roll out the Lullaby underlay in an opposite direction to that in which the floorcovering will be laid in the maximum lengths possible with the exposed rubber facing downwards. This should be repeated in rows until the entire floor area is covered, the rows should be butt tight to each other but must not overlap. It should then be trimmed in leaving a 3mm expansion gap (please check website instructions for specific installations) around the perimeter. If you are installing a square tile you may wish to consider running the underlay at an angle in order to avoid the edges coinciding with the edges of the tiles.

2.2 At this point the instructions on how to proceed vary dependent upon the floorcovering that is to be installed:

2.2.1 If you are double-sticking the underlay you should;

A. Fold back half the Lullaby and using a suitable pressure sensitive adhesive spread the adhesive on the sub- floor using a roller or a notched trowel (to achieve a spread of around 8 square metres per litre).

B. Allow sufficient time for the pressure sensitive adhesive to flash-off completely, then carefully lay the Lullaby into it to ensure a smoothly adhered underlay surface, you can then fold back the remaining underlay and repeat the process. You are now ready to commence installing the floorcovering.

2.22 If you are laying wood, or LVT’s we recommend the following procedure;

A. Check the perimeter wall for squareness, if it is not square then scribe the planks in remembering to allow for the required expansion gap. It is recommended to leave a small 3mm gap even for dry-back LVT installations, as the LVT may expand. You should then put these pre-cut planks to one side for a moment.

B. Now as shown in diagram 1 below, peel back the right hand corner of the release film (A) at 45 degrees to the wall where the installation begins. This will expose a small triangular area of adhesive (B) on each strip of underlay. You should fold back enough on this angle to release the film beyond the width of 2 rows of planks.

You can now gently place your first 2 rows of planks into position (see diagram 2).

2.3 In order to release the film you should start with the first row of Lullaby and place one hand upon the planks whilst gently peeling back the film from under the planks with your other hand (direction C) continue until you have released all the film under the first 2 rows of planks. During this process the angle of the film to the wall will change from 45 degrees to parallel. You can now firmly press these planks into the adhesive.

2.4 You now have 2 rows of planks securely in place, and the release film should be folded back and level (see diagram 3) with the exposed edge of each plank. Ensure that you do not peel back too much of the release film and that the folded line is close to the exposed edge of the LVT. In the case of a dry-back LVT you can expose enough adhesive membrane for 3 or 4 rows at a time (see photo 1).

You can now press your first 2 rows of planks more firmly onto the adhesive membrane.

In the case of a ‘click LVT’ you should now lay your 3rd row and then release the membrane underneath it in the same manner, so that the folded back section is level with the end of the row (see diagram 4).

2.5 You can then repeat this process for each row until the installation is completed.

POST INSTALLATION

During the installation you should use a lightweight roller (maximum 20kg) at suitable intervals in order to produce the best results. A small hand roller should also be used for inaccessible areas

INSTALLATION OF LULLABY

When installing carpet tiles you should follow points 1.0 – 2.1 (above). You should then follow the carpet tile manufacturer’s guidelines for fitting and pattern orientation. Wherever in the room you intend to start your installation take care to release only enough film to begin. Then follow the guidelines above (Points 1.0 – 2.1).

INSTALLING CARPET

Tufted carpets: When installing a carpet using either the single stick or double stick method please ensure that you leave a small gap around the perimeter and the Lullaby into which you can tuck the carpet to ensure a neat finish.

You should lay the carpet out with the Lullaby release film still in place; you can then lay the carpet out and trim. Once cut to size you should fold half of the carpet back and gently cut a line into

the film only, then pull back that half of the film. You can then work from the fold back point in the centre of the room towards the perimeter pressing the carpet into place ensuring that there are no creases or bubbles.

Continue this process until the carpet in this half of the room is fully adhered to the Lullaby. You can then fold back the carpet in the other half of the room and repeat the process. A carpet glider is a useful tool to use during this process. When installing carpet in areas that may be the subject of heavy traffic, castor wheels or wet cleaning it is recommended that the joins be secured with heat bond tape.

Woven carpets: If the carpet backing contains jute then gripper must be used around the edges of the installation in conjunction with the stick down method in order to avoid shrinkage should the carpet become wet.

Needlepunch carpets: The method is the same as that for tufted carpets, except that no gap should be left between the perimeter wall and the Lullaby. The needlepunch should be trimmed tightly against the wall.

Natural fibre carpets: Gripper should be used around the edges.
