Day 1: Arrival in Pisa or Florence airportDay 1: Arrival in Pisa or Florence airport

At 12.00 departure from airport with bus and guide wine expert

At 13.00 pm private lunch at Castello del Terriccio - www.terriccio.itDepending of the arrival time, we can do an off roading in Jeep, before or after lunch, visit the amazing country and landscape side of the estate

In the 14th century the Bishop of Pisa conceeded landrights of the Castle, its rural buildings and the land to the Count Gaetani of Pisa. They made veritable estate out of it, the so-called “County of Terriccio” which remained in the hands of the Gaetani family for over five centuries. Subsequently the Terriccio was gradually trasformed into an efficient agricultural establishment with warehouses and production sites which are partly still used today. At the end of the 18th century the estate was bought out by the Polish Prince Poniatowski and they were the owners until the first postwar period, when it was purchased by the Count Serafini Ferri.

The Serafini Ferri family have further enhanced the agricultural side of the Terriccio to the point of making a business in the modern sense increasing the area of cultivation, planting olive groves and vineyards and a complete renovation of the rural buildings. Today the Terriccio, under the management of Gian Annibale Rossi di Medelana Serafini Ferri, is an important agricultural estate of 4,200 acres, part of which is put to use for organic cultivation of cereals, forage, olive trees and, in particular, grapes from which wines of great personality and reflective of their land are obtained.

At 4.00 pm Check - Torre Mozza

This is the ultimate in a family owned luxury Tuscan estate. It has views of the ocean in the background, cypress trees all around, and olive groves. Many of the rooms are little cottages nestled in the gardens with a rustic yet luxurious style. Last year many people thought this was the most characterful and fun place we stayed on the trip, although the hotel in Chianti, where we will move to after 2 nights, is considered to be the very best hotel in the region. Day 2: Bolgheri - Super Tuscan HeavenDay 2: Bolgheri - Super Tuscan Heaven

Breakfast. At 10.00 am Depart hotel. Espresso, breakfast, and then we’ll drive 20 minutes through medieval villages, dating pre 990 towards Bolgheri. The Tuscan countryside is idyllic.

At 10.40 - 12.40 am Visit and tasting of different vintages of Ornellaia at Ornellaia. The visit will star with an aperitif at Bellaria, the panoramic vineyard of the estate

The Ornellaia Estate, created in 1981 is located near the picturesque village of Bolgheri, on the unspoilt Tuscan coast. The uniqueness of the area was epitomized by the famous poet Giosuè Carducci who gave eternal fame to the monumental Cypress Avenue leading up to Bolgheri. The coastal plain is a natural refuge to numerous migratory birds and other protected species.

Masseto: What makes its magic? Is it the uniquely gifted 7 hectare terroir where it is born, its mosaic of small individual plots, and its perfect affinity with Merlot? Is it the Mediterranean climate where the breeze from the sea combine so perfectly with the warmth of the sun? Is it the passion and dedication which drives all those who dedicate their talent and craft to its birth, its creation and development? Is it the commitment for excellence and obsession about every single detail? Is it its amazing complexity, its beautifully balanced structure? The answers to these questions are the keys to enter Masseto’s complex world.

But beyond explanations, a vast space will remain open for mystery, discoveries and astonishment. Masseto is a very special wine, one that simply goes beyond the excellence of the wine. It represents a unique world, a choice that is exquisitely sensitive to the values incarnated by the earth and man’s labors thereon.

This is one of the most famous Super Tuscans. It’s a collector’s wine, and highly prized. The ultra-cult Masseto vineyard is here too, and so we’ll see inside the pinnacle of super Tuscan cult wines that sell for thousands of dollars.

Vendemmia d'artista: Every year, an internationally-known artist is commissioned to create a work of art that captures the essence of the wine, the individuality of the vintage and its specific personality.

1.00 – 3.00 pm Lunch at La Pineta on the beach – 1 Michelin star restaurant (we will open Masseto from Ornellaia winery) This is the top fish restaurant on the coast, sitting right on the beach, so you’ll be able to wonder along the shore after lunch. We’ll sample a wide variety of Italy’s white wines, from north to south.Meet Lucian Zazzeri, the owner and chef

15.45 pm Back to the hotel for some relaxing time.

Leave the hotel at 7.00 pm: We will stop by a tiny little Tuscan village that dates back hundreds of years for an aperitif. Here is where Filippo grew and after many years abroad working in hotel sector, has established his business.

Suvereto is a classic medieval village whose origins date back to before the year 1000. We’ll go for a visit here, which is Filippo’s home. Situated on the slopes of the hills overlooking the Costa degli Etruschi, it is a true jewel, rich in history and art, set in the green valley of the River Cornia.Thick cork, chestnut and oak trees along with the Mediterranean scrub and olive plantations dot the landscape. The region is alive with wineries, and farm-holiday resorts where you can try local products and traditional dishes. The town keeps its old traditions alive through magical festivals inspired by history and folklore that are held throughout the year, thanks to the mild climate. Suvereto is Slow Food City, Wine City and Olive Oil City.

7.20 pm Welcome aperitif in Suvereto and Giuliano Parodi the major of Suvereto for honory citizenship 8.00 pm: Private dinner with top wines Filippo’s grandmother House with his mam making dinner and Filippo’s provided the wines on request Filippo can ask 2,3 wine producers who speak English to joint for dinner

10.00 Check out of the hotel and we’re off to taste some of the best Brunellos in the world. These must be aged for 5 years before release and often come to the market much older. They are 100% pure Sangiovese, and there’s a unique terroir influenced by altitude. It’s a spectacular drive up into the hills. We’ll visit 2 benchmark producers here.

11.30 – 13.00 Visit Case Basse Winery by Soldera. Case Basse is an estate in the southwest area of Montalcino, where Sangiovese Grosso vines are grown to produce the famous Brunello. It is over 23 hectares in size, and is in an excellent geographical position for wine growing.

When Gianfranco and Graziella Soldera discovered the enchantment of Case Basse, they immediately decided to devote themselves to that land, utilizing enlightened agriculture to create a Brunello of the highest quality. Soldera envisioned a project based on two deep convictions:high quality production needs a complex ecosystem that constitutes an ideal habitat for natural cultivation, past experience must be compared with the innovation that arises from research. The culture of the past, born of intuition and evolving from rural experience, must be respected, but also rationally understood and verified using the most modern techniques of experimentation. Thus Nature and her laws can be followed to allow them to express their full potential without exploiting the soil and crops.

At 13.20: Visit Sesti Winery with Lunch. The Sesti estate consists of 102 hectares of land, of which nine hectares are planted to vineyards. The rest is given to olive groves grazing or woodland. The vineyards are in the enviable position of being on the southern slopes of Montalcino, where some of the most prestigious Brunello comes from.

This is a top, fantastic small winery owner by Elisa and Giuseppe. The Sesti estate consists of 102 hectares of land, of which nine hectares are planted to vineyards. The rest is given to olive groves grazing or woodland. The vineyards are in the enviable position of being on the southern slopes of Montalcino, where some of the most prestigious Brunello comes from.

GIUSEPPE MARIA SESTI: Grew up and studied in Venice. Eclectic by nature over the years he has dedicated himself to the history of astronomy, on which subject he has written five books, both on ancient calender systems and the story of the Celestial Sphere. For thirty years he organised the festival of Baroque opera at Batignano in Tuscany at the same time as restoring the medieval hamlet of Castello di Argiano including the cellars and the planting of olive groves and the vineyards. His study of both the Classics and Oral tradition brought him to re-evaluate the influence of the moon on the vines and in turn the making of the wine itself, reducing to the minimum the level of sulphites used. ln I975 he had already published tables of the small and larger Moon cycles for agricultural use in order to reduce the use of chemicals on the land.

ELISA SESTI: Born in Tuscany, Elisa grew up at Castello di Argiano, educated in Italy and England, having spent a year at the Sorbonne, she took her Degree in Theatre Design and Classical Architecture in London. In 1999 she returned to Italy to help with the expansion of the family wine estate of which she is now co-director. Responsible for international wine presentations and sales she is also deeply involved in the wine making process. Top wine an interested philosophy of production behind it.

Visit Sant’Antimo Abbey: The Abbey of Sant'Antimo, Italian: Abbazia di Sant'Antimo, is a former Benedictine monastery in the comune of Montalcino,Tuscany. The origins of the abbey are obscure. Archeological investigation of the site is incomplete, but has yielded artefacts from Late Classical times. The foundation of the original Benedictine monastery dates to the time of Charlemagne. The various accounts of Charlemagne founding the abbey are without direct historical foundation; they first appear in a document of the emperor Henry III from 1051.

The Abbey of Sant'Antimo

Visit Tenuta Greppo Winery by Biondi Santi: The prestige of The Greppo dates back to the 19th Century, with the great wine culture of the family that owned this Estate, whose terroir has an extraordinary vocation for Sangiovese. Clemente began making wine using 100% Sangiovese and passed his wine knowledge to his nephew Ferruccio Biondi Santi, who, after the phyloxera came in the second half of ‘800, isolated a clone of Sangiovese that gave birth to wines of extraordinary longevity. In 1888, Ferruccio produced the first bottle of Brunello di Montalcino.

Having taken over at the helm of the estate after graduating with a degree in Agrarian Science from Perugia University, the now late Franco Biondi Santi, oenologist, learned the subtle art of vinification from his father, and continued to run the Greppo Estate, with its unequalled collection of Reserve bottles. Franco Biondi Santi increased the production of Brunello del Greppo from the 4 hectares cultivated until his fathers death, to the current 25. He continued to pursue strict, traditional agronomy and cellaring practices to

consolidate the typical character and improve the quality of Brunello del Greppo, convinced that he could equal (given the same use of the land and vineyards) his great 100 year-old Brunello Reserves.

Chianti Classico: You’ve been working hard, eating, drinking and giggling your way around Tuscany. So it’s time for some relaxation in the morning. Possible activities on requests for the morning : Spa - Cooking Class - Hot Air Balloon - Pick Nick in the vineyards - Biking – Old Timer Car or Ferrari Rental

At 12.00, We will leave for the wine adventure in Chianti Classico

Chianti Classico’s territory covers the communes of Castellina, Gaiole, Greve and Radda in Chianti and parts of other sub regions. The borders of the Chianti Classico wine production area have remained unchanged from those established by ministerial decree in July 1932. This was the first wine region in the world to ever be given an appellation.

At 12.20 – 16.00 visit and wines at Castello di Ama (tasting different vintages). Castello di Ama will be a fascinating addition to your trip. We’ll learn how you make olive oil at one of the finest producers in the world. Oh, they also make some of the best wines in Chianti here too. So it will be a tasting extravaganza. Castello di Ama has an area of about 80 hectares of vineyard, located all around the village of Ama at an altitude of between 450 meters and 550 meters above sea level in a radius of about three kilometers, divided into four beautiful valleys that the topography of the place name is always with traditional names: Bellavista, San Lorenzo, and La Casuccia Montebuoni. Every single drop of our wine is made from grapes grown exclusively in our own vineyards. We see wine as a distillation, more powerful than words, of the traditions, history and beauty of this magical place. Making wine at CASTELLO DI AMA means respecting the grapes that have been nurtured here every step of the way, from the harvest to the bottle. It’s by serving the grapes and by honouring their character that we are able to produce wines that seem to have gushed straight out of the generous rocky soil.

Contemporary art at Castello di AmaFor us, wine goes beyond what our senses perceive, it is a sort of centauro Only half of it is that familiar creature in the glass; the other halfis the incorporea I something that marks the difference between one vineyard and another. l1’s an unfinished work, if you like – in order to appreciate it fully, to close the circle, you have to grasp its mysterous other life in the territory. Such considerations led us in 2000 to launch “Castello di ama per l’arte contemporanea: a project in which art and wine come together to leave a contemporary mark on the land. Meeting with one member of the family

Light Lunch at the estate. Nestled in the heart of the charming hills of Gaiole in Chianti, discover Il Ristoro di Ama, small wine bar with kitchen where the great wines of Castello di Ama are paired with fine simplicity of traditional Tuscan dishes. Our chef Giovanni offers daily dishes from the finest raw material, from Castello di Ama own gardens and selected to offer an authentic experience of the magical world of Ama. In the afternoon you can stop on the terrace of Il Ristoro di Ama to taste the great wines of Castello di Ama and for enjoy the beauty of the place. After lunch visiting the small village of Radda in Chianti. Radda in Chianti is a beautiful medieval town enclosed in large defensive walls. Located up on a hill between the valleys of Arbia and Pesa, it has ancient origins. It has been inhabited since the 9th century and was already mentioned in a document from 1002. Today, Radda in Chianti and its surroundings are famous destinations for winelovers holidays in Tuscany. Several restaurants and wine shops in town offer excellent Tuscan dishes and the opportunity to taste the Chianti Classico DOC produced in the area.

Driving back to the hotel. Stop at Ceramiche rampini. Rampini Ceramics produces handmade and hand painted pottery in the Italian artisan tradition going back to Renaissance art and craft. Our designers unite the legacy of the Italian tradition with our love in combining and experimenting with more modern colours and designs. Our production is geared towards individual customers and their requests. Producing handmade and hand painted ceramics in the artisan tradition is a complex and slow process which requires meticulous craftsmanship just as much as individual artistic skills. The shapes, or bisques, are shaped from clay, sun dried and fired in the kiln. Then every single piece is glazed, individually hand painted and fired for the second time. Back to hotel around 18.00

Dinner 3 options: At Winery Capannelle. Capannelle, wine producers in Gaiole in Chianti, Siena, extends over about 20 hectares (16 of Vineyard) and produces about 80.000 bottles of wine a year. The owner is James B. Sherwood, founder and shareholder of the Orient - Express Hotels LTD., which owns some of the world's most beautiful hotels: Hotel Cipriani in Venice, Hotel Spendido in Portofino, Villa San Michele in Florence, Hotel Caruso in Ravello and many others. As Capannelle looks down on Gaiole in Chianti, only 30 minutes from Borgo San Felice Hotel its true soul lies 2.5 metres underground, where a 1.000 square metre cellar acts as the hub of a refined wine making activity. Ristorante family style Albergaccio 45 minutes from Borgo San Felice We are located in the heart of Chianti, in what was a small rural borough just outside Castellina in Chianti. Elegance and local traditions perfectly merge each other into a warm, charming and informal setting. The passion for our territory and our local roots always have guided us during the research for small, high quality productions, a source of inspiration for our cusine, traditional but sophisticated at the same time. or Dinner in hotel

Today, as a grand finale, we’ll visit the the visit will star at Bellaria the panoramic vineyard of the estate and then have a decadent lunch at a 1 star Michelin restaurant, with a spectacular line up of wines to pair with the tasting menu. Think Tignanello!

At 10.00 – 11.45 am visit and tasting at Castello di Monsanto (tasting different vintages).Probably everybody’s favorite winery last year was Castello di Monsanto, where they will maybe pull out an old vintage. Castello di Monsanto is one of the most respected estates in Tuscany and one of the top producers of traditional Chianti Classico Riserva. They have long tunnels of underground cellars stacked with bottles dating back decades.

In 1989, Laura, Fabrizio’s daughter, started to work in the company and gradually learned from the land, the people who worked it and her father, the marvels and difficulties of the natural evolutive process which transforms grapes into wine. As from 2001, Laura and Fabrizio have been sided by the collaboration of a wine maker. From this encounter with Andrea Giovannini, a strong relationship was born where the energies coming from each one become synergies for the company, all going in the same direction.

Laura and Fabrizio Bianchi her father

At 12.30 pm lunch at Osteria di Passignano. We’ll have our last meal a stone’s throw from Tignanello, at Antinori’s Estate in Chianti Classico, with a 3 courses tasting menu and a spectacular line-up of wines including Tignanello and Solaia . This is a final blow out lunch.

Tignanello was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques, the first red wine to be blended with non-traditional varieties (like Cabernet) and one of the first Chianti reds not to use white grapes. Tignanello is a milestone. It is made from a selection of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The wine is aged in barriques for about 12 months and for a further 12 months in the bottles.

[email protected] [email protected] • www.worldofelan.com • www.worldofelan.com

From the sunniest part of the Tignanello hill, from the best grapes grown in the best vineyard. The rest is all passion, care, attention and research. This is how Solaia is born from the best selections of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese grown in the Solaia vineyard. The wine is aged in barriques for about 12 months and for a further 12 months in the bottles.

The Badia di Passignano (The Abbey of Passignano), located in the Chianti Classico region, is an ancient monastery dating back to 395, when it was established by the archbishop of Florence.

The Osteria di Passignano, born in 2000, was founded by Marcello Crini, a great connoisseur and enthusiast of the traditional Tuscan cuisine and wine culture; and Allegra Antinori. The Antinori family owns the vineyards around the Abbey, from which the Chianti Classico Reserve wine “Badia a Passignano” is produced, and which is aged in the cellars beneath the monastery.

The Osteria di Passignano rediscovers and represents the places so rich in tradition and passion for wine. At 14.45 pm we’ll head off to Florence. You’ll be glad we are not eating or drinking for another day. 5 days is plenty. It’s a perfect amount of time to see the best wineries, learn an enormous amount, eat excellent food, and learn from a local Tuscan guide (who is a riot) and I’m there for your amusement.

We will drop your off at the airport in Florence or Florence city
