The GCC(Gulf Co-operation Council)The Gulf Cooperation Council is a political

and economic union of Arab states bordering the Persian Gulf, namely Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Established in Abu Dhabi on 25 May 1981, the original Council comprised the 630-million-acre Persian Gulf states of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait.

The unified economic agreement between the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council was signed on 11 November 1981 in Abu Dhabi. These countries are often referred to as the GCC States.

The Headquarter of The GCC is situated in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The inaugural GCC Summit in 1981 was hosted by Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi.

The Organizational Structure1. The Supreme CouncilThe Supreme Council of the Gulf

Cooperation Council (GCC) is the highest authority of the organization. It is composed of the heads of the Member-States.

2. The Ministerial CouncilThe Ministerial Council is composed of

the Foreign Ministers of all the Member States or other ministers deputizing for them.

3. The Secretariat GeneralThe functions of the Secretariat General

are broadly the preparation of special studies relating to cooperation, coordination, planning and programming for common action and preparation of periodical reports regarding the work done by the GCC.

Secretary General of The GCC He is appointed by the Supreme Council

for a term of three years renewable for another term.

The current Secretary General of The GCC is Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Bahrain
