Espacio de Nuestro Párroco

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

For a while now, we have resumed regular confessions, but in a different location. Since at present we are not able to utilize the confessionals, we have been using the Waters Conference Room in St. Michael Hall. Confession times are: Mon., Tue., Thurs., and Fri. 4:45-5:15pm (before the daily Mass); and Saturday 3:30-4:30pm. “Though your sins be like scarlet, they shall become white as snow” (Isaiah 1:18). Our Lord died and rose to bring us this Sacrament. Let us run to receive His free gift of loving forgiveness.

A brief note about how to go to confession in the current setup: The conference room is arranged to provide a fully private and safe opportunity for confession. The penitent enters and exits through the second door from the street. If someone is having their confession heard in front of you, please wait outside under the covered porch and not in the hallway. Once it is your turn, go through the door, turn right, then enter the conference room on your left. After you enter, you have the choice either to remain anonymous (i.e., “behind the screen”), or to go face-to-face.

To confess anonymously (behind the screen), leave the door open and stand near the gray partition (immediately on your left) on the spot that says “Please Stand Here.” If the lights are on in the room, the priest is there, so go ahead and begin with the sign of the cross. To confess face-to-face, again leave the conference room door open and simply walk around to the other side of the table where you will see the priest on the other side. Let us not miss the opportunity to receive God’s forgiveness through this amazing Sacrament.

One other detail, please do not use the bathroom in St. Michael Hall while confessions are being heard in order to provide absolute privacy for penitents. You may use the other bathrooms available.

School starts this week! Our amazing faculty and staff at St. Mary’s School have been preparing diligently to have in-person classes as safely as possible. They have worked very hard in conjunction with the Diocese to come up with a viable plan. If you have any questions or would like to enroll your child, please do not hesitate to contact our school: 803.649.2071.

Please note that the Wednesday morning daily Mass start time will move to 8:20am in order to accommodate our wonderful school children at Mass. During this time of greater precautions, only one-third of the school will come to the church for Mass at a time. You are welcome to join.

Just a reminder that there will be no First Friday Latin Mass at 2pm this Friday. Unfortunately, this Mass has been permanently cancelled. Thank you for your understanding.

Let us pray for each other, Father Wilson

Obligatorios

We are respectfully requiring that everyone attending Holy Mass wear a face covering or mask during the celebration of Mass, except for the act of receiving Holy Communion. The covering must cover both your mouth and nose. Free, sterile masks are available at the front door, if you do not have a face mask with you. Bishop Guglielmone has asked that parishes in the diocese conform to local government ordinances.

Thank you for doing your part to ensure the safety of all.

Parish & Community Events

Sunday Morning Café (Catholic Faith

Exploration) to resume 9/13

Come join us in Mother Theresa Hall (to the left of the church) between the Sunday morning Masses, 9:45 – 10:45 am. No reservations or materials needed. Masks and social distancing will be required. If you prefer, bring a lawn chair for discussion questions outside in the garden and under the porticos following the video. Come early—movie will begin at 9:45. Come build friendships with your parish family!

We will begin with a movie on Formed so that those at home may participate. The War of the Vendee is about faithful peasants and nobles from a small French region who courageously led a Catholic “counter-revolution” for Freedom of Religion during the French Revolution. A powerful story of sacrifice and martyrdom, it is delightfully cast entirely by Catholic youth (over 250 cast members) and is a movie for the whole family. The link is https://watch.formed.org/the-war-of-the-vendee. Discussion/meditation questions, as well as the Fall Session schedule, will be in upcoming bulletins,

Altar Flower Donations

Donating altar flowers is a simple, lovely way to honor a loved one, glorify God, and add beauty to the altar. Flowers can be donated in honor of a living person, memory of someone who has died, in celebration of an anniversary or other milestone, or in thanksgiving for friends or family. You can choose any Sunday or have an open Sunday chosen for you. The names of those being honored or remembered will appear in the bulletin on the Sunday you select. If you prefer, you can simply give the flowers to the Glory of God. The suggested donation is $250 for two arrangements. To donate, please call Janet Morris at the parish office at 803.649.4777.

Dear Parishioners,

Once again, parishioners are receiving emails and texts sent in my name and other parish and school staff. These requests are often asking for financial help in one form or another. Neither I, nor any parish employee, will ever ask you for donations of any kind via social media. Please do not respond any message that you may receive.

Thank you and God bless,

Father Wilson

Estimados feligreses,

Padre Wilson

Good and Faithful Servant

Drug addiction turns love into a weapon. It forces family members to overcome their own loving instincts and go hard against their own child, wife, brother, or parent. It puts people in the position of calling the police and filing charges against their own blood. Every step you take, every thing you do, is another knife stab to the heart. Tough love is tough for everyone.

Drug addiction grinds family love into shards of glass that gash the hearts of those who love the addict. People are forced to act in ways that run opposite to their instincts toward the people who are dearest to them in life. The decisions that drug addiction forces on family members scar the family members as well as the addict.

There is help available within our Aiken community. The “Aiken for Comfort” Nar-Anon Family Group meets virtually every Tuesday from 6:30pm to 7:30pm due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Join their Zoom Meeting at: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81861321786?pwd=Q1FzSlUyUlp1V3JJQ05Eckh4MktpQT09 Meeting ID: 818 6132 1786 Pass code: 043407

The group provides fellowship for those affected by someone else’s addiction. As a Twelve-Step Program, they offer each other help by sharing experiences, strength, and hope. There is no cost for the group.

We also have members of our Parish family who have walked this journey and are here to support and encourage you if you are in a similar situation. If you would like to speak to someone directly, rather than the group, please contact Bette Ross at 803.649.4777 for a referral.

Catholic Good Manners & Etiquette

Please exit the church and leave reverently and respectfully. We encourage you to visit with others, but not until you are outside of the main sanctuary of the church so you won’t disturb others who are staying to pray. So, please leave quietly and visit with others afterward outside. A smile and whispered good morning is sufficient greeting inside the nave.
