MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRESIDENTCharles Crow • Club President
If you missed Turtle Point’s First Annual Barbeque Contest, you really missed a treat! The weatherturned out beautiful, the air was filled with the smell of hickory smoke and a great time was enjoyednot only by the participants, but also by friends and members who joined in for the afternoon.
The day was topped off with the trophy presentations in the clubhouse and a wonderful barbequebuffet prepared with the beef and pork cooked on our own big grill by Glen Junkin and Chef Mark.
I am sure this competition will become a yearly event and grow even larger in the coming years.
We have enjoyed an active and successful summer to date with most of our special events being wellreceived by the membership.
We challenged our staff at the beginning of the summer to not only work to make our regularsummertime events more enjoyable and successful but, to come up with new activities that ourmembers could enjoy. I think that they have more than met our challenge!
Please take a look at all of our upcoming events, especially our Labor Day Celebration, and make aneffort to participate in some of them, you will not regret it!
See you at the Club!

The golf course has had an exceptional year. The weather has been mild except for a few days, and the course hasflourished. However, August always seems to be a challenge, and I don’t expect this one to be any different. So, until thecooler weather of Fall arrives, my staff will be continually checking the greens making sure that they are not wilting orshowing any signs of disease. If you see any of the maintenance staff out checking greens, please wait until they arefinished before hitting your shot into the green. This is important to their safety and to their efficiency to make sure allgreens are checked in a timely manner.
August also means it is time to start thinking about pre-emergent for your Winter weeds. We normally apply ours this timeof year, and it will last until we are ready to spray Glyphosate in the Winter. However, we do not treat our fescue areasbecause we will plan to reseed those in September. This year we will use a three way blend of tall fescue to interseed. Bydoing this each year, fescue seems to get better each year.
I would like to thank everyone that has helped to keep the golf course in great condition by following the cart rules. Pleasebe considerate of the golf course, and follow the rules posted for #4. Make sure the carts are on the path around all teesand greens. When everyone does this, it helps to keep the wear on the golf course to a minimum. The ballmarks are stillan issue. Please remember to fix your ballmark and any others that you see. Thank you again for your support; with yourhelp we can continue to have a great, well-maintained club.

LOOK AT ALL THE BOATS!I have enjoyed seeing so many out on the water this Summer. I hope you havebeen able to get out with family and friends and enjoy an afternoon on the lake. Thanks to everyone for making an effort to use our Marina this Summer. Ourconcrete patio and sea wall are working out nicely to accommodate everythingfrom a jet ski to a Mega Yacht. Come check it out if you haven’t seen what theclub did last year.
BOATERS’ WEEKENDI would like to thank everyone who helped with our 2013 “Boaters’ Weekend”.Having the Guntersville Yacht Club come visit Turtle Point is always a treat, andthe M*A*S*H 4077 party was a great theme. The golfers from Guntersville
enjoyed our premier golf course, and the tennis group had a good match. Everyone comments on what a terrificclub we have with the marina, golf, and tennis. On top of that, the breathtaking view of the river from the ClubHouse and pool make Turtle Point a special place to visit.
LAKE GUNTERSVILLE YACHT CLUBOur next event is for all Turtle Point boaters to return the favor and go to Lake Guntersville Yacht Club. TheGuntersville party is always Labor Day weekend, which is Friday August 30th through September 1st. Pleasecall Tricia at the Turtle Point office, and get on the list.
FALL BOATINGI want to thank everyone for a great 2013 boating season. Things seem to slow down after Labor Day and whenfootball season rolls around. Don’t forget that there are plenty of great boating days left this Fall. Slowly cruisingthe lake and listening to your favorite ball game can be a lot of fun.
Happy Boating
