As is always the case, there are many things to say when leaving a place and I would never attempt to say them all. But there are things that need to be said and I hope to say those things at least. My first Sunday at Elkhorn Hills one of the women of the church said to me, "This church doesn't need a pastor." My first thought was, "Well, nice to meet you too!", but my second thought was, "Boy, this church REALLY needs a pastor!" I discovered, of course, that that woman was very, very wrong - Elkhorn Hills certainly needs a pastor. But that is nothing unusual - all churches need pastors. Gratefully, I soon found out that this woman was part of a very small minority because most of the folks at Elkhorn Hills were not only glad to have a pastor - you were equally glad to join with your pastor in doing the ministry that this church has been called by God to do. And so I want to take just a moment to recognize and thank those of you who have done exactly that during my four-year tenure here. THANK YOU to those of you who helped me in my very early days at Elkhorn Hills. Those who showed me where important things were stored, who taught me about the important traditions of the church, how "things were done". Those who answered my simple and often dumb questions with patience and humor. You helped me get started off on a solid footing and I appreciate it. THANK YOU to those of you who said "Yes!" when I asked you to take on job responsi- bilities, positions that needed to be filled. You did that on faith because you didn't know me and you couldn't have known just what direction I might want to lead the church in and I ap- preciate that. Because of your willingness to do this, we were able to steady things a lot sooner than we might have otherwise. THANK YOU to those of you who encouraged me to change things I wanted to change, things I felt needed to be changed. Thank you for not reminding me that I was not doing things the way former pastors did those things. Thank you for being willing to try new things, even if you might not have been sure just exactly what we were doing. Some of those things worked out; some of them didn't. But you tried them with me and I thank you. THANK YOU to those who have been so kind and caring to me during my times of ill health while your pastor. Thanks for the meals, the cards, the notes, the prayers, the con- cern. All those things really meant a lot. THANK YOU to those of you who have reached out in friendship to me. I will always treasure that friendship and hope that we will be able to continue it during the years to come. Obviously, this could go on and on but I think I covered the highlights. I have always won- dered if I would really know when I was ready to retire and for a part of my life I dreaded the idea of retiring at all. But I am, in fact, ready and looking forward to retirement. I will still see you around for a few more weeks and Elkhorn Hills will continue to be a part of my prayers for a long time to come. God bless you all. Pastor Nancy Davis Retirement

Pastor Nancy Davis has been with Elkhorn Hills since July 2013. Elkhorn Hills is the 9th church she has served in her 33 years as a pas-tor. Previously she served as co-Pastor with her husband, Bruce Davis at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Omaha, NE. Nancy was born in Southeast Missouri, and she graduated from South East Missouri University, Cape Girardeau, MO, with a Bachelors of Science de-gree in Elementary Education. She received her Masters of Divinity degree from Eden Seminary in St. Louis, MO. Nancy and Bruce have been happily married for 20 years. Between them, they have one son, three daughters, and seven grandchildren. Nancy enjoys traveling, movies, reading and dancing.

Greetings from the Worship Committee! Please remember to mark your calendars starting June 4th that we will move to our schedule of one service a week with a start time of 9:30. As we prepare to welcome our new pastor in the beginning of July, we would love to add a couple more members to our worship committee. We want to make sure everything runs as smooth as possible for the future of EHUMC and our wonderful worship experiences we have to offer. We have monthly meetings to review important upcoming dates and events in which we would help prepare for. If interested and/or looking for more information, contact Tyler Hughes at church on Sunday or email him at [email protected]. In Christ, Tyler Hughes Worship Committee Chairperson

Greetings form the Music Ministries! As our busy music season as come to a close, I would like to thank eve-ryone for all the support you have shown us over the past year. We have received so many thank yous from all over the congregation and the community in the form of cards, emails, and kind words after every ser-vice. And most of all, thank you to all the vocalists, instrumentalists, and accompanists for all your hard work and dedication you have brought to this church! This would never be possible with out you, and you help make me love my job more and more every week as you prepare for each anthem and Cantata which is presented to you! As we move to the summer months and the one service format, I am looking for special music opportunities from anyone who would love to sing and/or play instruments during services! I will be looking for one special music performer every week. I would love to have a wide variety of vocalists and instrumentalists if possible. If you are interested, please contact Tyler Hughes on any Sunday or email him at [email protected]. Thank you again everyone! In Christ, Tyler Hughes Music Administrator & Director

A laby-rinth experience is a personal practice for heal-ing and growth---a blossoming of the Spirit within.

It will be held at Pastor Judith Rainforth's re-treat home in Riverside Lakes, which is just south of Waterloo off of Dodge St.

-The cost will be less than $20/person. -Pastor Judith will give a presentation on the labyrinth. We will have time to use her laby-rinth, or take a nature walk or just relax.

Beware… and be very careful! We should always be conscious of what we’re doing and how we appear to others. Here’s why...it’s because we’re Christians. As Christians, we have a duty to those around us and to everyone who sees or hears us. And, here’s the thing...for some of us, being a good Christian doesn’t always come naturally. We have to keep reminding ourselves how Jesus wants us to live each day, and how he wants us to act… Which is like a person trying to follow Christ. So, that’s all we have to do. Easy, isn’t it?
