Juan was a blue and yellow bird from Brazil. He lived with the Jones family in New York. His home was a big cage on a tall building.

Juan liked the Jones, and Jones liked Juan. They gave him food. They talked to him and showed him to all their friends. But Juan wasn’t happy. He wanted to go home to Brazil.

Every night Juan looked up at the sky. He can saw the whole city. It was big and exciting. It was home for the Jones but not for Juan.

He remembered the big and yellow moon in Brazil. Then he remembered his last day in the jungle. Two men with white hats. The big box. The long plane journey and the shop.

“I want to be with my family again”, he thought. “I want to fly home to the jungle. It’s warm there and the trees are always green

One day Mr Jones opened Juan’s cage to give him some food. Then he hears the telephone and he went to the phone, but he forgot to shut Juan’s cage. He saw an open window. “This is it” he thought.

He flew out of his cage and out of the window. The air under his wing was very cold. Behind him he heard, “Hey Juan!” but he didn’t go back.

Juan flew south. Soon he couldn’t see New York. All he could see was the Atlantic Ocean. In the Evening the sun started to go down.

The sky was red, yellow and blue. It was beautiful. He was hungry, but he was happy because it was the first time in two years he was free.

Two hours later it started to rain. And the sky became black so Juan couldn’t see the moon and the stars.

“Where am I?” he thought. He remembered his warm cage. “Am I doing the right?”

Page 12: The traveller bird (edited version)

He looked down at the cold sea. Then he saw something. Is it a star in the black water? No, it couldn’t be a ship. He looked again, it was a ship!

Page 13: The traveller bird (edited version)

Felix flew down to the ship. There were hundreds of fish on it. He ate twenty in five minutes, and then he slept.

Page 14: The traveller bird (edited version)

In the morning a man on the ship saw him. “Oh no!” thought Juan but it was all right. The man only wanted to take a photograph of him. Juan flew into the sky again. “Good”, he thought “It isn’t raining now, and I’m not hungry”.

Two days later Juan flew across Peru. He looked down and saw the Inca city of Machu Picchu.

Page 16: The traveller bird (edited version)

Juan started to fly down to the buildings. Then he saw a big bird with beautiful black and white feathers. It was sitting on a stone

“Hello, you aren’t from Peru, are you?” said the bird. Then Juan told his story to the bird.“Two years in a cage in New York?!” said the bird.“Yes” answered Juan, “but now I’m going home. Can

you tell me how to get there?”

“I have a friend-Amzon-in Rio” said the bird. “He knows the jungle. Go there and ask him”

Page 19: The traveller bird (edited version)

Juan flew from Peru to Rio. There he saw a lot of people in the street. He can heard music and saw some birds in a tree. Is one of them Amzon?

Page 20: The traveller bird (edited version)

“Amzon “he said. “Yes, that’s me “answered one of the birds.

Juan went with Amzon and told his story

Page 21: The traveller bird (edited version)

Juan and Amzon flew from Rio to the jungle. In the evening Juan said, “Yes, I remember that village. My home is very near here. It’s only...” Then they stopped. In front of them there were a lot of men and machines.

Page 22: The traveller bird (edited version)

Oh no, they are making a new road!” said Amzon.“But... Where’s my home?” asked Juan. “And where’s

my family?”

Page 23: The traveller bird (edited version)

The two birds flew over the new road. Then they stop in a tree near the village. Juan was tired and sad. “I’m sorry” said Amzon.

Then Juan saw a small blue and yellow feather in the air. He looked up. There, above the trees, are four birds. “It’s them, Amzon!” he said. “It’s my family!”

Then he flew into the sky. The birds saw him and said “Juan, is it you” they asked.”Yes” answered Juan. “I’m home!”
