Welcome ToSankey Valley ParkThe historic 15 mile Sankey Valley follows thecourse of England’s oldest canal, linking StHelens with Warrington through to Widnes bya footpath and cycleway.

The Ranger ServiceSankey Valley Park is managed for the benefit ofboth people and wildlife. Based at Bewsey OldHall, the Rangers patrol the park, give informationto the public, provide an environmental educationservice to schools, organise events and activitiesand work closely with local groups to undertakesite management and environmental improvementprojects.If you would like the Rangers to work with yourschool, club or community group pleasetelephone us or call in at the office.

The Trans PennineTrail

The Trans Pennine Trail is beingdeveloped as a coast to coast network of pathsfor walkers, cyclists and horse riders. WithinWarrington the trail follows the line of the nowdisused Timperley to Garston railway, theManchester Ship Canal, Runcorn-LatchfordCanal and the Sankey Canal.

On Sankey Valley Park the TransPennine Trail joins the park at Sankey Bridgesand is signposted west to Widnes. In the oppo-site direction the route crosses over the RiverMersey and heads towards Stockton Heath.

CyclingCyclists are welcome in the park but

please give way to pedestrians, take care whenapproaching bends and path junctions and giveadequate warning of your approach.

WHEELCHAIR ACCESS Tarmac paths, Radar gates and designated parking bays in Waterways car park make the

western side of the canal from Bewsey Bridge to Sankey Way easily accessible for wheelchair users. Radars key are from Customer Care Tel 01925 442599.

Angling In The ParkThe Sankey Canal is available to fish on a dayticket from Lymm Angling Club. Contact NeilJupp on 01925 411774. Some sections of thetowpath are currently closed for angling.Penketh and Old Hall angling club lease anumber of ponds in the area. Contact FrankDavies on 01925 652327. For furtherinformation on angling at the newly constructedStanners Pool please contact the Rangers.PLEASE NOTE ANGLING IS NOT PERMITTEDON ANY OTHER PONDS IN THE PARK

ANGLING CODE· Anglers share the bank with other park users. Please

treat walkers and cyclists with courtesy and keep foot-paths clear. Look out for others when casting.

· Keepnets are not allowed except during matches.· Leave no litter, bait or food tins that attract vermin.· All anglers over 12 years old must hold an Environ-

ment Agency Rod Licence. These are available fromPost Offices.

BE SAFE· Always check for overhead power cables. Never

fish within 100 feet of them or walk beneaththem with your rod upright.

· Although the water in canals and ponds is cleanenough for fish to live in, it naturally containsgerms which could make you ill. To minimisethe small risk of this happening always covercuts and abrasions and do not put line or anyother fishing tackle in your mouth.

Warrington’s waterways are important wildlifeareas – please take care not to harm or disturbwildlife. If you see wildlife in distress please informthe bailiff or contact your local Ranger.

How To Find UsThe main car park is at Waterways, off Cromwell Ave, with smaller carparks at Ledyard Close, North Park Brook Road, St David’s Drive, LodgeLane, Cromwell Ave South and Old Liverpool Road.By Bus: from Warrington bus station No. 18 or 18A to Callands orNo. 16 or 16A to Dallam.

This area of the park also has regular resting points alongwith wheelchair accessible picnic benches located nearthe ‘Spiders Web’ play area.
