WHAT ARE THE FOUNDATIONS’

SIX AREAS OF FOCUS?

For more than 110 years, Rotarians have joined together to take action in countless

ways in our communities and around the world. While Rotarians can serve in many

ways, to maximize our local and global impact, since 2013 Rotary International has

focused Foundation funded activities into six areas, which reflect some of the most

critical and widespread humanitarian needs. These are:

1. Peace and conflict prevention/resolution

2. Disease prevention and treatment

3. Water and sanitation

4. Maternal and child health

5. Basic education and literacy

6. Economic and community development

All projects, scholars, and vocational training teams funded by global grants work

toward specific goals in one or more of these Foundation areas of focus:

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE ROTARY FOUNDATION AND ITS WORK.

FOUNDATION

FACTS

Nils Oman – the member behind the badge!

“Nils” is the nordic form of Nikolaus, and has been used since Viking days.

Nils was born and raised in

Stockholm, Sweden, where he attended 4 different schools in 12 years.

Nils began his working career at the early age of 10 in hospitatilty.

He went on to tutor Maths and Electronics at KTH (Royal Institute of Technology),

picture below, where he studied physics.

Nils worked as an IT contractor on main frames, and established his

own IT company, whilst living in Sweden.

Nils and a friend planned a trip in 1980 that took them from Sweden to

Finland, where they connected with the Trans Railway which took them

through to Beijing, during the sensitive years of the Cold War.

From here they travelled through Asia and on to Australia.

Nils met a nice girl in Sydney, who was later to become his wife.

Nils and his wife lived and raised their 2 boys in both Australia and Sweden;

and to date Nils has spent 30 years of his life in Sweden and 36 years living

in Australia.

In the eventful years of mobile telephony, Nils found himself to be a high

flying executive spending much time abroad; consulting, liaising, building

and representing brands such as Telstra, Ericsson, Nokia, Telenordia and

many more. Nils was part of the original design team for AMPS.

Sadly Nils’s wife’s life was cut short when she passed away with cancer.

Nils found he had to be more anchored at home as he became soul parent

to their 2 boys, who were aged 12 and 14 at the time.

Nils who had invested in property, decided to look at property development

as a source of living.

Nils, who believes education is paramount for the growth of new ideas,

attended a Property Seminar, where he met another nice girl, our very own

“Kathy Roberts.”

Both Nils and Kathy trained as life coaches;

Nil’s, seeing a need to take the pain out of home maintenance and

improvement, in the busy lives of others established “Dr Fix It”
